Don’t forget to put eggs and milk in the fridge. We do stuff to them that makes them require refrigeration. Edited; it’s not homogenization. Just know that the way we process them makes them, much like Americans, spoiled without Air conditioning.

I had a cat once, Oscar, who loved bouncy balls in the kitchen. He didn’t chase it. I would throw it as hard as I could, and he would sit patiently until a bounce came near him, and BANG!, snatch it out of the air and pin it to the floor. Then he would look at me until I made it go again. I miss that guy!

It makes me sad when I think about how I grew up this way. Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving. The men would watch sports and drink beer, the kids would play, and the women would slave away all day making elaborate holiday meals and then work forever cleaning up. I was a boy, so first as a child I had no responsibilities, and then as a teenage boy I could about my business while my teenage girl cousins were roped into helping in the kitchen. Like the vast majority of people with privilege, I never gave it a thought. Sometimes when people ask about what amazing or crazy things I would do if I could do it all over again, I think, “Dishes. I would just wash the dishes, and vacuum, and clean the bathroom.” (You don’t want me cooking if you want to actually enjoy your food.)

For families traveling, spread out your packing. If you are a family of four and bringing two suitcases, spread the clothing for each person between both cases. (IE: Half of each person's clothing should be in one case and half in the other.) That way if one suitcase gets lost, then everyone still has at least half the clothing that they need.

You know, a better workaround would be to just acknowledge there’s a problem, tell people to use the system to clock in and out, AND tell them to let HR know ASAP if it’s not functioning properly—-by means of a written record of emails, so HR has concrete proof the system isn’t working to take to the “suits”. It is incumbent upon a business that requires people to clock in and out to provide a WORKING system for doing so! If it doesn’t work, if it’s slow and clunky, if it’s simply unreliable, then the company needs to take it up with whatever timekeeping business they’re using, and get it repaired or replaced. If it’s the company’s fault for holding on to an outdated and unreliable dinosaur timekeeping system, then they need to f*****g pony up and pay for a new and reliable one!

School dress code. Girls must wear skirts. We lived in the country. Kids had to walk a half mile on a dirt road to catch the bus. Told the school that in cold weather my girls would wear warm clothing including pants. The changed the dress code. Hogh school wouldn’t let my daughter take auto shop. I talked to the school. They let her in and the following year auto shop was open to all. These incidents occurred in the 1960’s
