American system is so cruel. Our system basically forces many folks to "manage" their pain until they can no longer eat or drink, and they die from dehydration/starvation. It's horrible.

Assisted Suicide. I was against it, but after seeing my uncle suffer with extreme Rheumatoid Arthritis for a few years before eventually dying from it, I’m all for it now. If we put down our pets when they’re suffering, why can’t we do the same to our humans with their written consent?

I'm a teacher with students like this. They frequently get the best grades. If others get restless, I remind them that most people don't voice their questions. It is also really obvious when other folks want that info as well. As a teacher I'm also more than capable of saying, "hold your questions for now, we need to move on," or "let's see who else may have things they want to discuss." Patience isn't a virtue, it's an absolute bloody necessity as a teacher!

Well, it depends if you believe that the consciousness is some kind of magic energy, or if it's the sum of the information stored physically in the brain, like in a computer hard drive. If it's the latter it's just molecules that change through the chemical reactions during decomposition.

I do have an open relationship. Not all cultures rely on the "monogamous lifestyle". We tried that, worked fine, but me trying to avoid others only made both of us suffer. I need to talk to people, I'm able to have love for more than one person, and it's not something I can control. So, I just thought it was natural to me, told my boyfriend that me having feelings for others didn't mean I had less feelings for him, and himself was like "whatever, it's not a big deal". And he agreed to me having friends with benefits. He knows who I see, when I see someone, what I do. We communicate, I often check he is okay with the situation. Didn't really changed our everyday life. I just stopped feeling bad for having love and desire... And I think an open relationship was a way for us to think about and change the classic relationship and adapt it to how our own relationship works. It's only society who tells one he has to love and desire only one person. It's not true for everyone.

Open relationships are hard. Harder than monogamous ones by FAR. You're dealing with emotional stresses of not just one partner, but each of them. Plus their interactions, insecurities and everything. It can be genuinely great for all involved, but it's really difficult.

My husband and I have been together almost 15 years (holy s**t), married for 11 and polyamorous for about 7 I think. His other long-term partner and I have become best friends, even after an incredibly, incredibly rocky first year between us. She's a sister to me and I genuinely can't imagine my life without her at this point. They've been together over 5 years I think? Can't remember their anniversary at the moment. My other partner and I will have been together 5 years in July, and I've been defacto stepmom to his son most of that time, traveling between the country I'm from to the country my kid lives in every few months for 4-6 weeks. My relationships don't look like everyone else's, but they're stable, committed and open. Communication and shared Google Calendars are key. It definitely doesn't work for everyone, but it really can work for some.

It isn't for everyone. :) That doesn't mean it's for no one. It's ok if something doesn't work for you. It's not ok for people to judge others, unless they are willing to receive judgement back. If we criticize those different from us, we are saying it's ok for them to do the same to us.

One very hard realization is that jealousy is insecurity in disguise. And that everyone gets insecure sometimes, even yourself. But those feelings are your responsibility (and it's okay to ask for reassurance).

This is what I refer to as "the other lessons" that get taught. Learning the hard way that there are consequences is not fun. This is something that their families may need to learn as well: your "darling's" actions will continue to hurt others, including them.

"If it was boring the first time, it won't get better the second time." Also: I know some folks are saying that "it's too much if it impacted their families." Whole lotta nope! They are the ones who instilled that entitlement! I've had to sit down with those parents (after they get written permission) and explain how their adult children cheated, didn't do their work, and now were expecting to be graded differently because of the impact it would have. Nope! Your little darling is going to lose their scholarships because of their lazy and entitled attitudes. If it is that important, then they should have done it well in the first place!! I point blank tell my students: if you feel the need to cheat, talk to me so we can make a plan to get you caught up. No sympathy for those who cheat and think they can get away with it.
