"Dutch-themed attraction park" is the absolute best description of Amsterdam I've ever read. It's completely true. EDIT: Utrecht has knives on wheels flying around you too. I'm always scared of them when I'm there (I'm from the south-east, where things are... slow.)

That poor thing. Bathing cats is unnecessary except for medical reasons. And this "breed" has a horribly deformed skull. It's gonna have trouble breathing and teeth problems a lot.

Actually, this is a standard type of bathroom heater in a lot of Mediterranean countries, but this particular one is decades old. I have one each in the full bathrooms in my house, one of which I bought when we moved in six years ago. The difference between newer models and this is that there's a metal screen over the front of them so no one can touch them and get burnt; mine have two straight heating elements. It may be that there was once a screen, but that it broke, fell off, got rusty.... whatever, and disappeared. The switches are outside of the bathrooms, not only for the heaters but for the lights, and by law, bathrooms do not have electrical outlets. These heaters are actually pretty safe -- you could get hurt by touching the element, but the electrical wiring is all enclosed at the back, where it is directly attached to the wall, with only three wires connecting to the wires in the wall. And they heat like a charm, perfect for a small bathroom.

I had the same trouble more than a decade ago, with an issue with the cable company, which included phone and internet. I somehow reached a really nice, helpful woman, in accounting/issues with money/payments, something like that. She said, "ALWAYS press the number for customer financial issues. They pick up immediately." Has worked every time since.

I grew up before there were ever sports tampons -- this post is the first time I've heard of them! And I used tampons all the time to go swimming, to the beach, etc. I still remember telling my friends, on the bus on the way back from the beach, that I was glad I used them, and a couple didn't yet use them; I was shocked. We were about 15 years old, i.e. circa 1965. BTW, my mother introduced them to me and taught me how to use them. We have a tool and appliance library, run entirely by volunteers. People donate items, and people can come and borrow, at no cost. The local council (municipality) provides the space. But we're not in the U.S., and that's done in many towns and communities here. In my previous town, the senior center set up a 2nd hand place, with donations from the community, mostly for clothes, but other items, like pots and pans, also get donated. Seniors staff it, mostly volunteer but I think they get a sort of stipend. They sort, launder (if necessary) sew and fix the clothing, and people can buy things for the equivalent of a dollar or a few dollars. A lot of construction and other manual laborers buy clothes there; they go through them so quickly, it's a waste to buy better clothes. And families going through difficult times, or chronically poor families, also buy clothes and other items there.
