AMAZING! Hand engraving like this is a dying art, and very tricky to perfect. I was lucky enough to take some classes from a master engraver in Florence many years ago...(I can do a few skills)It takes a lot of steady arm strength and control plus excellent sharpening skills....a dull graver makes crap lines and can cause terrible stab injuries (I've seen an apprentice with a graver through his hand...he slipped, right after he thought to himself...wait, did I sharpen this enough?) AND THAT'S MY LITTLE ENGRAVING STORY FOR Y'ALL! :-)

I knew that. Grandpa worked for the electric company for 65 years...Hes 92 now. Still runs. I joke it's from all the free electricity Hes had coasting through his veins. My grandma says it helped her too...those two😁

Many soldiers had professional skills in handcraft. Creating art out of battlefield rubbish, like bombshells, was important for these men's mental health. Not only they could practice their skills and pass the time (life in the trenches between deadly assaults was actually dull, uncomfortable and boring) but beyond that, in the middle of this awful wartime, it made them remind they were civilized people, able to create beauty and celebrate life even out of lethal material.
