At my high school, we had an annual week long science trip, fully paid for by fundraising. Only 4 people were selected to go each year. My sophomore year, I was chosen. I knew there was no way I was going to be allowed to go. I had never been out of the state, never been on a single vacation, never been on a plane and never been away from home for more than 24 hours. My parents were incredibly conservative and immediately said no. I had a science teacher who just didn't accept the no. Instead of just giving up and selecting someone else, he called and tried to convince my parents. When that didn't work, he came to my house and had dinner with my family to convince my dad that I would be an asset and he would be doing me a disservice by not letting me go. He sat and ate my mom's terrible cooking and talked to my parents for over 2 hours until he got a "we'll think about it". Then he just kept following up. I had never had someone in my corner like that before, who was willing to go to bat for me like that. He wore them down and it was the best week of my teenage life. I'd never seen the ocean. 20 years later and I can still recall every detail of that trip. It was a major pivot point for me.

Ridiculous-Names-Parents-Gave-Their-Children
I work at a college and often go through the new applications to process them, I've seen all kinds. Most ridiculous name I've seen thus far though: Starscream Anakin as his first and middle names. He has a normal last name. When I first saw it, I was certain that it was a kid f**king with our application system. Then I met him in person, and he showed me his ID. His name is legally Starscream Anakin. I get the Anakin part, but of all the Transformers to name your kid after, why on Earth make it Starscream? He was just awful.
Most-Inappropriate-Thing-Asked-Pregnant-Women
At 7 months pregnant, my wife was in a grocery store, when a woman we do not know walked up, placed her hand on my wife's baby bump and said, "How precious, you feel like about 7 months pregnant." My wife cannot stand being touched, unbidden, by strangers. So she smiled, grabbed the woman's boob and replied, "You feel like about a B cup." And they parted ways without another word, "B Cup" standing there aghast and stammering. I love my wife.
Won-Lifetime-Supply-People-Stories
My friend won a year's supply of dairy products. They arrived all at once. On a very big truck. Where do you put a year's supply of dairy products?

He was a football player and hung out with the jock crowd, and I was in the drum line. He kept his nerdy side under wraps in high school so as not to be bullied, and it's now out in the open. He ended up becoming a software developer. We still hole up and have Lord of the Rings weekends and watch the trilogy or have gaming nights. We've been married eight years. He helped me follow my dreams to become a vet and supported me through going back to school. I would 10/10 marry the hot jock with a sensitive, geeky side all over again.

My mom was the elite Atlanta debutante and lived a very cushy life at a budding Miami country club. Beautiful and very popular at the private school. My dad grew up on a farm in Virginia. They weren't poor but they were definitely not refined. Eventually my father's family made it down to Miami after selling the farm. He became the lifeguard at the country club pool where my mom spent days lounging about. My parents say they saw each other and that was it. The scandal was great - the debutante and the lowly lifeguard.... They just celebrated 54 years of marriage. My "lowly" lifeguard father made quite the life for my mom regardless of what all those elite twats said was going to happen. She gladly left the country club life for him and they are still so utterly in love it's crazy. He carries a photo of her at the pool where they met. The only references she makes to being "that girl" are that they proved everyone wrong. They are beautiful and I love their story.Show All 18 Upvotes

Snow And Ice In Canada
So I knew this guy who used to live in the middle of nowhere in Africa. For unknown reasons his family moved to Montreal, Canada when he was a teenager. I met him in highschool. Everyday he'd bring a glass of water and sit by the window and all he would do is watch the glass of water throughout the whole course. Eventually my friends and I started noticing so we went up to him and asked him about the glass of water and the open window. He looked at us with big round eyes and told us "I've heard that if you leave water next to the window and it gets cold enough outside... The water turns INTO ICE!" We all had a laugh and everyday came for an update on his water cup. Eventually winter did arrive. The teachers let us keep our winter coat in the classroom so that he could leave his glass of water next to the open window. Surely enough after a little while ice was starting to appear on top of the water. He was so happy.

First date we were making out and I let out a really gross fart slip out on accident. She deada*s looks me in the eye, rips one, and says, "Top that motherf**ker." Been married for 13 years.
