anyone who thinks a one piece for gymnastics is "sexy" should have their head examined. *SIDE NOTE: Germany's "GROUND BREAKING stand on SEXUALIZATION" also includes their coach FACE SLAPPING and SHAKING an athlete before she steps into the ring to compete (IN FULL VIEW). That's right, he slaps HER FACE ... and well "me too"... but their gymastics team is in a longer unitard (face palm)

OMG it's called a facetious tone.. do you EVEN read? seriously, TRUE progress for women in the Olympics is a 46 year old gymnast kicking ass.. NOT a German team trying to stand out bc "omg we changed how long the skin tight thingie is". (it's STILL skin tight as it has to be for movement etc).. BUT no.... some crazy freak actually thinks a UNITARD or GYMNASTICS one piece is "sexy".. my god, get a life!! Next thing the men will have to vault in shirts.. seriously, it's the Olympics, part of the commemoration is the lean muscles of the athletes.. what I do "get" is Germany sucking pretty hard and trying to get some attention WHILE at the same time, their judo coach actually SHAKES and SLAPS the female competitor IN THE FACE as she goes into the ring.. how's THAT for breaking sexual stereotypes? Germany breaking hypocricy records.. PAY ATTENTION to that crap before you comment

OH GOD! groan, men and women athletes both wear streamlined for ease of movement... coverage can be optional but quite frankly, if you've ever trained at that level (and I spent 2 years as an olympic draft for volleyball) it's HOT AF... . I SO disagree with this "sexualization"..IF the women were asked to gyrate or move around a pole, YES.. but this is simply designed for movement. Anyone getting aroused from a gymnastics unitard needs to have their head examined

There is nothing less sexual about skin tight shorts than a bikini bottom... In fact it's illogical because it can restrict your movement and quite frankly as a former Olympic drafted volleyball player I'm amazed that they would want shorts that are going to ride up their butts.

This is so stupid... A unitard is infinitely more revealing because it is like a glaze of spandex and the reality is it's not what you wear it's how you are asked to move in order to perform the routine... If gymnasts were asked to gyrate or pole dance then we would be having a conversation... But having trained both volleyball and track and field at sufficiently high levels (drafted for olympics team), there is no way that this is about sexualization they just want to stand out... When you are playing a sport that intensely the only thing you are thinking about is efficacy and maximum comfort.. a unitard and a one piece for someone like me who has a long torso is equally tedious to get in and out of .. and since unitards have been trendy this spring I can tell you first hand you overheat working out in them and I have gone back to my short shorts and a crop top within 5 minutes. I don't get this at all it's a moot point..

And aren't they still tight enough to be sexualized? I understand it has to be tight to avoid catching but how about just saying they want them for comfort? I don't leotards are terribly comfortable, but whatever.

hmmm... ironically I think it depends on who is the "bad cop/good cop" (sorry for lack of better language). My dad never once raised his voice to me, my mom was a tornado of yelling when I was in trouble... HOWEVER, when girls were mean to me at school (I was an immigrant kid, we dressed differently, my school lunch was always "weird" to the other kids) it was my mom who said "who cares what they think? They think you're weird? Well weird is AWESOME.. who would want to be like everybody else anyways"? Dad taught me a lot about compassion and kindness/empathy, mom told me when to draw the line and tell them to go F... themselves for small mindedness. It's a balance.

beautiful!! Please start a clothing line!!! there are so many "mommy and me" for moms and daughters and fathers and songs but literally ZERO for daughter and dad (my dad is like my best friend, *mom is great too but def grew up bonding with dad and the outdoors)..

If this was my grandma/mom and later ME, I would be proud AF.. she looks amazing and her face is full of light ...if you're gonna hate on that, you are probably a miserable insecure piece of work. I think if we're gonna have a movement against body shaming, age shaming should be there as well.. And she's in amazing shape, looks healthy (which is more than I can say for some of the questionable body images being promoted which are neither of those things).

THEN she softened and said, "the thing you get to take credit is for what you create in HERE (pointed to my head) and what you do in HERE (pointed to my heart).. this is where real beauty and magic comes from",.... AND THAT, has kept me in my life, whatever scale I feel I'm in among whatever room I'm in , completely in tune and in check with where my "pretty" and "ugly" feelings belong. They are arbitrarily attachments to somewhat of a lottery.. I DO take credit for the shape I'm in, how I keep the "machine running" and how I dress it... and those elements too help a LOT with presenting your lottery ticket of genes... and after that CONFIDENCE from within. Till I was in grade 11, I lived thinking I was the awkward european tall girl .. and I didn't care. I felt like I had things to learn and grow in my head and my heart.. and sure enough, my favorite compliments are always that my "insides" are attractive to people. Those are the compliments that stick more than "you're hot"

It's ironic that beauty in the eye of the beholder is also relative to culture and your developmental phase. I think what your parents tell you to help you deal with ANY kind of comment on your appearance is KEY. Because whether you get told by some other kid (or adult) that you are pretty and ugly, you will have your parent/s interaction with those terms to guid how much they matter. I was awkward tall giraffe, I would say I looked like a boy for much of my childhood... then one day, in grade four, a teacher told me I was pretty. I was ecstatic because I had heard this word used by then to refer to people and things I too found aesthetically pleasing. I came home and said "Mom! Guess what? Someone called me pretty.!" and she sat me down and very sternly said, "So what? What you look like is a lottery you owe FULLY to your ancestors, you got your looks from me and your father and we in turn got them from our parents so no one really gets to OWN the credit for their looks. " pt2
