At least a decade ago I seem to remember a news article about a homeless man who lived under a bridge, and would keep an eye out for people who might be considering jumping. If he saw someone heading out he'd walk up and start talking to them, just to say he cared about them. Nice story.

While I share your concern. I also like to think they didn't know any better and even if they did. It's usually best to just be polite and let the person know it isn't ok to do this for many reasons. We can help and teach others without being demeaning and belittling them and saying they're dumb. When we make people feel bad talking like that it almost always ends with the person getting defensive and being crappy back and that helps no one not even the kitten we are concerned about. I know it's easier to be shitty and be aggressive when we're upset. But if our intentions really are just to help and have things go better for everyone and everything. We should be mindful of how we treat others so they know our whole purpose is kindness and decency in the 1st place. That's usually our intent anyway so being hateful only dilutes all that kindness and helpfulness we wanted to share and turns it into harshness that was never meant to begin with.

Good lord, don't feed a cat straight from a can! The inner edge is super sharp. One time I was rinsing out a cat food can for recycling, and I ran my finger over the inner edge and got one of the worst cuts I've ever had.

Same story, but she actually killed my 3 months old kitty. I didn't have any proof (she threw her from the balcony to make it look like an accident). The roomate tried to kill herself at some point and I regret deeply I have saved her life.
