If The World Feels Like A Terrible Place, Here Are 50 Of The Most Wholesome Things People Shared Online To Make Each Other's Day

It took my mother 22 yrs to get Canadian citizenship. We were threatened with deportation when I was six and her whole life she had to keep silent in fear of it. The immigration's office lost her file 4x and everytime she had to pay someone to refile. They said she was only permitted to stay if she contributed to the country by creating jobs. A single woman with a sickly kid was fortunately hit by a car. Used that money to open a sewing factory and it took 22 yrs. We were so poor, everything was paid to the factory to keep it running. I basically lived there. When I was sick with chickenpox I slept there. Didn't qualify for child tax credits because in the book we were making too much. It was all to show we could afford to hire 30 employees with half full-time and half part time all with benefits after 3 months. I recall days where we just have bread at home. Canada is just as horrible in how they treated their immigrants in the 1990s and early 2000s. It has only gotten better in the past decade because there's more public info, but don't let anyone fool you into thinking the Canadian govt isn't guilty of being racist and mistreated ppl. Just look at the indigenous communities.

And somehow many other Countries seem to be able to do it. I guess they have a stronger more stable economy than the US? Your argument is an old one but it assumes all other forces stay the same. Along with Universal Healthcare, would need to be controls on pharmaceutical prices and medical billing. How many times have we gone to the doctor where they looked at us for 5 mins (didn't do anything) and billed the insurance $500+ The increased taxes argument is valid but the taxes in Canada are what 47%? I'm already paying 32% in my bracket and I would gladly pay 15% more if that meant all of us could live longer and healthier lives. My friends dad was a cop, retired after 40 years. Got cancer and it ate through his medical insurance, pension. They sold their home and it still wasn't enough. There's got to be a better way. Just have to have the courage to find it.

I know someone who's story is just as outrageous are this one. The groom asked his future mother-in-law for her engagement ring to marry her daughter. Instead of asking his mother or getting one himself. The bride had said it could be a $20 silver band and she would have married him. But he wanted to save money and thought using her mother's ring is would be more sentimental. My understanding is the bride's family accommodated but they weren't impressed.

This was never a question in my home. If we didn't eat what was on the table then we didn't eat at all. And tantrums were never tolerated so I never understood how kids could talk back to their parents or throw a fit without consequence growing up. And most if not all POC have had their asses whooped for poor behavour. Honestly it shows whether someone was disciplined when they were kids, whether they were abused, and whether they were allow to run wild. There is a difference between discipline and abuse.

I think it is because they do not always get paid time off for jury duty. Most have kids and might not be able to afford the childcare required especially when they have a couple of days of deliberation where they don't get to go home. You just get a place to sleep and a few meals, but responsibilities outside of the court still exist.

I guess they only consider 莓 as strawberry, but 木莓 in kanji is raspberry which is recognized by the Japanese. I think they sort of adopted parts of the definition, but not all of it. Hiragana/katakana form of the word strawberry いちご or イチゴ is more Japanese in my opinion.

Horse 馬 sounds like when you say "maaaa" like you were trying to talk when the dentist has your mouth wide open with a deep low "a" sound. Funny enough the word "ping 平" can mean flat or calm and "wo 和" can mean "and" or "even, harmony" so when combined... Peace is achieved.

Ariana Grande's tattoo actually makes more sense in Chinese. 七 means 7, 輪 means wheel or something circular, and 指 is finger(s). Japanese has an odd way of changing the meaning when lumped together so I guess for them it means bbq grill. But I'm pretty certain if broken apart it means the same as it does in Chinese.

The Japanese seem to forget where they got their culture and why every important documents is in Kanji. 机 means desk in Kanji because it means desk in Chinese. Of course they had the breed with the indigppl on the island of Japan, but Kanji and a lot of their traditional foods originated from China.
