My son complained about never having enough money to live on. I told him I could cut his budget by 25% in a few minutes... He's got a rolls royce cell phone plan costing $150/mo, refuses to have a roommate, refuses to drive a car more than 3 years old, eats out instead of at home at least 4-5 nights a week, has to have the top of the line cable channels, and wonders why he never has money? Not my problem once he's graduated college.

My take, keep the venue, disinvite the family, cut off ties with the sister. Make husbands family your 'new' family and spend all your time with them and relations that stood by your decision. Even if you invite your family, they will remind you at every turn how you 'ruined' your sisters wedding. Heck, she might not even be pregnant.

It wouldn't have to start across the board, either. Take somebody like me who could get by on 75% of my wages and would loooove to have 75% of the work. I have a good employer who pays decent wages to mostly office-type workers. Most of us are in the exact same boat - we're stressed out and overworked and we could survive on commensurately lower pay. Now imagine that because of this restructuring, my employer could afford to hire approximately 25% more employees. Wouldn't you like to be one of them?? Certainly this would result in a lot of people getting moved to better-paying jobs, and then those jobs being filled, and so on. It could very likely be better for *everybody* as long as it wasn't made mandatory, just strongly encouraged esp. among the higher-paying tiers of job.

I'm in my 50's and don't have kids but as a hiring manager you would be amazed at the number of kids who come to an interview with their parents or letters of 'reference' from their parents. I had a kid come to the interview drinking coffee and in sandals...the list goes on and on. It's rare I find a good millennial to hire but when I do they work out just as well as anyone. They do seem to have a sense of entitlement though I've never seen before, I blame it on rarely being told no as they grow up.

I'm a boomer, college grad. Got drafted and sent to Vietnam upon graduation. Mortgage rates were 18%. GI housing loans were not accepted because their mortgage rate cap was too low. First job paid $9,000 per year. No maternity coverage provided by employer. House prices rose faster than ability to save for down payment. The point is that every generation has problems. My parents dealt with WW II and Depression. My kids are millennials. One is head of cyber security for a large defense contractor, one is senior research engineer for a think tank and one has been President of a large retail company for the past 12 years. You are what you make yourself, not what you whine about.
