It is a weird variation chosen by people wanting a unique version of the ordinary spelling J'aighmez.

Some of these come about because they are being spelt using the pronunciation of a different language. For example Krystyna is the Polish spelling of Christina, or Hanne is the Danish spelling of Hannah. The ones that change the spelling just to be different are deluded. They just cause problems whenever the poor child has to give their name - it's Mary with two x's and a z. FFS.

This story has been told many times but they left out the important detail why Carter didn't shoo the vulture away. The girl's family was actually nearby and they were all in the neighbourhood of a crisis/refugee centre, which they were heading to. Carter had been told by the aid workers not to touch any of the refugees because he would expose them to infections and vice versa. And right after he took this picture, he shooed the vulture away and watched closely as the girl rejoined the family and they made it to the crisis/refugee centre. But people hounded him and criticised him because they thought he was being cruel on purpose, exploiting the girl for his own fame and fortune. He had also done a lot of photography in and around Africa during the time so he was already very depressed from all the misery he had seen but this incident was the clincher which pushed him over the edge.
