It's a safety and training thing. The idea is that when you are asleep or out of the house the puppy goes in the crate so they don't eat something they shouldn't or pee in the house. My huskies are young and once they were potty trained at 4/5 months they were allowed to sleep outside of their crates on the floor. They go in their crates only if I am gone for more than an hour and never longer than 3 hours. Otherwise I can leave them out for an hour when I am gone and since I am home all day they choose where to nap and they often go in their crates on their own. This was the only way I found to keep my dogs safe that was effective because I have huskies and my two rescue huskies are destructive because they are extremely anxious when alone.

It could be worse, my dogs and cats have an active hatred of my laptop and will do anything they can (including teaming up) to ensure I can't use it!! The second I think about using it I suddenly have a dog and a cat on my lap, another cat on my shoulder and a second dog by my knee handing me random items he thinks I might desperately need... If I have actually managed to get it out they do a very good job of knocking it off my lap... One of my dogs even managed to break my old laptop in half by putting one paw inside and forcing it closed with the other leg!

Lol, not overly surprising that she liked the peppers and even the chilli. Dogs can't taste "hot spicy". To them it just tastes the the underlying vegetable without any of the heat or physiological effects we humans get. Unfortunately the farts are horrendous and depending on the dogs constitution they may end up with a rather upset stomach...

I rescued a young dog who had spent most of his short life as a stray. I felt the same about crates but ended up having to use one with my boy because he no longer knew how to relax. For the first 48hrs he was constantly on the go, Up and running around the house on stop despite being exhausted. Eventually we were left with the option of medication or trying the crate. We put the crate in a quiet place with a soft bed, a bowl of water, some treats and a chew and put a blanket on top and over 3 sides. He could still see us out of the front of the crate but otherwise it was a dark, quiet area. He went straight in there, settled on the bed and slept. It was the dog who pulled the door closed behind him (after the first time he did it we tied a rope toy to the door so he could pull it more easily). This allowed him to have a safe place that the other dog didn't go into, where he could rest and sleep. He had the crate for about 8 months then he decided not to use it again.

Such a cute face!! I ended up in the back seat with my Golden Retriever not so long ago and he took full advantage of me being there and sat on my lap the whole journey. Luckily for him I'd plugged his seatbelt harness into the middle one so he could spread out meaning he could easily sit on me without fighting his seatbelt. (Yes both of my dogs wear seatbelt harnesses at all times when travelling, it's the law in the UK these days...)
