Australia Is A Whole Different World, And These 50 Photos Are Here To Prove It
"This land is cursed; the animals hop not run, birds run, not fly and the swans are black not white. This land is cursed and I'll have nothing more to do with it," wrote William Dampier, one of the first Europeans to ever explore the continent of Australia, back in 1688.
In case you didn't know, 26 January is the national day of Australia. And what could be a more beautiful way to celebrate the occasion than by honoring all the little things that make this country the beautiful, interesting and absolutely bizarre place that it is. With that being said, Bored Panda invites you to look through some of our favorite photos shared by people on the interwebs proving that Australia isn't just another country, but a whole different world. As per usual, don't forget to leave a comment here and there and vote for your favorite pics!

No, a sausage, the difference is it's made out of real meat.
Load More Replies...Where's my democracy sausage we really need to step it up. Compulsory voting is awesome too.
No. It's a choice. Because people are free to not vote. Trumpacists are not only free, but invited not to.
Load More Replies...Because...capitalism, or something? Idk, other than I am jealous.
Load More Replies...Democracy Sossos for the win!! Also the cake stall with at least one offering of teeth cracking toffee in the paper with 100s & 1000s, butterfly cakes and fairy bread. Gotta love election days
Sausage, fried with a single slice of white bread wrapped around it. With your choice of dead horse (tomato sauce) or BBQ sauce. Voting is compulsory in Australia and polling places are usually the local school (on a Saturday), so the schools parents' groups have a sausage sizzle to raise money. So, you go to vote and then have a snag (sausage). Costs you two dollars. They are called democracy sausages. Similar thing happens outside Bunnings (Home Depot to Americans) every Saturday. Local government here in Canberra tried to ban them because the people serving them are not trained Cert IV licenced food handlers yada yada and f**k me, there was nearly a riot.
Make sure to put them UNDER the sausage so they don't fall off and burn you -_-
Load More Replies...NOT to be confused with a hot dog and do NOT put vegamite on it - you will not like it. (nastiest smell ever)
We call a bbq a barbie, when we cook other stuff on it as well as sausages
You could just go to Bunnings, you don't have to wait for voting day.
Or.. you could do both and get the best of both worlds ;)
Load More Replies...The polling booths are often at local schools so they have a sausage sizzle as a fundraiser on election days. We call them democracy sausages! Democracy-...a23cf2.jpg
Kind weird?!? You mean, Kinda cool, Right?! Give me some Democracy Sausage with some bread & sauce of course
No in in new zealand we 2 have sausage sizzles 🇳🇿 and a hot dog is a sausage on a bun totally different
They don't need to encourage voting. It's compulsory. It's more of a reward than a bribe. Usually the sizzles are raising money for good causes too.
Load More Replies...I want food for voting. All I ever get is a sticker that says I voted and you get that even with mail-in ballots.
You do have to pay for the sausage - they're usually $2. And you have to vote, sausage or no sausage.
Load More Replies...We have that too on xmas markets and fairs. But in a bun/ roll, not a piece of bread.
And we call white bread "Toast". We have so many varieties of bread, we had to call it something.
Load More Replies...That's so awesome, when I voted in December here in they didn't even have any of the lame stickers they normally give me.
All around Australia :) Not everywhere of course, because it's the locals who set it up normally I believe, but I'm sure there is plenty of places to choose from :P

Most dangerous thing in Australia is the sun. Worst sunburn of my life... Bondi beach.

No snakes in Ireland and it's cold, if I move I'll gladly come to live there. I don't support the high heat in summer and don't want to a have a snake in my toilet.
