Game of Thrones viewers might not have been able to see most of the Battle of Winterfell, that apparently, as one fan aptly put it, was lit by one slender candle – however, there was one moment that nobody missed – Arya Stark ending the Night King like the badass trained assassin she is. Many were shocked by this “major plot twist” was not a twist for anyone who has tracked her steady training or remembers the multitude of foreshadowing in the previous season’s dialogue.

Just took a look, and found plenty of women complaining about Arya being the one to do it, most of whom wanted either Jon Snow or Dany to be the killer. Please stop in trying to create a Sexism issue where none exists.
My husband has been a fan of Arya since he read the books (as they were coming out, way before the TV series), so he was VERY pleased to see her kill the Night King. The people who are complaining about Arya being the one aren't considering how she's been training all these years and how absolutely EVERYONE had an important role to play during the battle of Winterfell. We saw that dragonfire wouldn't defeat the Night King, so that was out. What other option was there? A one-on-one with Jon? I'm not sure how that would have turned out... But everyone fighting helped buy time for Arya to get Melisandre's message and be at the right place at the right time.

Goat is Greatest of All Time, a Mary Sue character is one that is designed to be perfect from the start with minimal flaws. It certainly does not describe Arya's character, she has grown in light and darkness throughout the series.

I cheered. I was not surprised. Arya has trained and suffered for the whole series for this moment. She even said that SHE was going to kill the Night King. This is a good page to remind us of the journey to this conclusion. It was perfect!
It's not like Arya had a few fencing lessons and then she kills the Night King. She went through hell, learning how to survive, how to kill, how to want to kill, even before she got to the Faceless Men. She damn well did earn it. And if the internet theory on who the Night King is is true, (as it was with L+R = J) then she's got to face that as well.

Too many creators writing or drawing these badass women that were all style and no substance. But yet it was accepted back then because it was cool to see a scantily clad woman with a sword or gun kick a*s. Now I don't get why so many men are not into kick a*s women of today? Is it because they are not wearing a bikini in thigh-high boots? Women can still be strong, gorgeous and kick a*s without having to look like they stepped out of a Maxim magazine. These are the men who either can't get a girl like that or don't want their "masculinity" to be shown that they look weaker against a woman like that. Honestly its sad since there has been a*s kicking women since Linda Carter's Wonder Woman and Charlie's Angels. The parallels with Lord of the Rings are strong as well. When Eowyn kills the Witch King of Angmar, first decapitating his terrifying mount with a beautiful tai sabaki. Why shouldn't Arya kill him? The gripes against her are unimaginative and her act, like Eowyn's , immensely gratifying.
Honestly I believe this shouldn't have been the THIRD chapter, but the last, or the second to last. I loved Arya killing the Night King, but after all the build-up of the eternal night and the winter coming, Killing him on the third episode may make the other war (King's Landing) kind of anti-climatic. You know, like recovering King's Landing, THEN killing the Night King with a unified army, revealing Arya is the one fulfiling the Azor Ahai prophecy... and Gendry taking the Iron Throne with Arya as Queen and their offspring finally uniting the Seven Kingdoms...
I'm mean the only problem I had was the prophesy of Azor Ahai being kind of not fullfield and the fact that now no prophecy in the show can be treated that way... But then I started thinking- Azor Ahai doesn't have to be one person. It just as well can be mutliple characters that made it all possible- Dany and her dragons, Hound, Jon taking back Winterfell, Bran giving her a dagger and as he said- your actions brought you wher you are, where you belong. If any of those character chose different path if wouldn't be possible for Arya to kill Night King. If Jon didn't get Night King down, if Hound and Barric didn't protect her etc.

The Night King's generals/ bodyguards? literally did nothing. They were about as useful as trees. It's not explained how Arya sneaked past them. 2. The Night King snapped a spear literally one minute earlier. He could have easily snapped Arya's neck or sunk his untrimmed nails in her jugular, thus killing her. We are talking about a creature that has lived for centuries, can withstand dragon fire, capable of melting stone and has killed a dragon. Him dying in one hit by anyone is pretty anti climactic. Two better scenarios are: 1. Jon fighting with the generals/ bodyguards while Arya goes 1 v 1 with Night King and at the very least gets wounded killing him 2. Arya wearing the face of one of the dead men (the way she killed Walder Frey), thus sneaking up to the Night King and stabbing him in the back.
I think we're forgetting at the entire scene of the NK walking up to Bran... followed by the general noticing a sudden gust of wind blowing his hair... followed by Arya coming out of the shadows... and the NK grabbing her by the throat and chest... her dropping the dagger from her left hand... to her right hand... and stabbing him... was in audience time... what 4 minutes give or take? But in the time frame of the world? It would have been 1 minute... and that's being generous. Because It was filmed in slower motion than every other scene taking place at the same time. I think people are forgetting that. So if it was shown in normal run time, it probably would have been a flash of about 10 seconds or so of the general feeling the wind and the Arya coming out with the dagger and stabbing the NK. just saying.

I watched it last night, been behind. Love the story, love the characters, it was amazing. My only complaint wasn't with anything that happened but with the filming, MY F*****G GOD IT WAS WAY TO F*****G DARK!!! I couldn't see s**t.

Wow this is ridiculous if you take into account that for the first seasons the producers didn't know the ending, they were just basing the story on the books, and George RR Martin was supposed to finish the book series before the show catched up. It has been reported that D&D changed the plot to Arya as the Night King killer instead of George RR Martin version of Jon killing it. So this post makes no sense, you just want to find justifications for why Arya is no Mary Sue with an small touch of supposed masculinity fragility. Take Alien for example, absolutely nobody complained that the strongest character is a woman, because it makes sense for the plot. I have seen both HBO and Amazon versions of last Sunday's episode (S08E03) & BOY OH BOY: I am so happy that I do not have or pay for Amazon! As this episode was already dark to begin with, with the Amazon version was 1 big BLUR in comparison!

BTW Foreshadowing is not people learning skills and then using them. Melissandre and Arya's convo in season 3 is the only foreshadowing, that too very weak. Arya becoming an assassin is best fit foreshadowing for melissandre's prophecy. This is just lazy writing. see GRRM interview on why he never reads fan theories. he says something like "Fans catch the clues and correctly predict the outcome but changing outcome just for shock value because some figured it out leads to unsatisfying ending." ~ paraphrasing . They should have left proper clues that arya could be the next Azor Ahai

When they edvertised how much did they spent to the battle scenes of this episode it already forshadowed that they spent all that money to coke and will hide the actually cheap effects with darkness!

Wow this is ridiculous if you take into account that for the first seasons the producers didn't know the ending, they were just basing the story on the books, and George RR Martin was supposed to finish the book series before the show catched up. It has been reported that D&D changed the plot to Arya as the Night King killer instead of George RR Martin version of Jon killing it. So this post makes no sense, you just want to find justifications for why Arya is no Mary Sue with an small touch of supposed masculinity fragility. Take Alien for example, absolutely nobody complained that the strongest character is a woman, because it makes sense for the plot. Here it doesn't make sense, but you sure are looking extremely hard for even the smallest justifications. I could take any character and make the same argument, using loose bits and pieces here and there.
