This is closer to fact. Disney remade her to fit modern "beauty standards ". In reality she was fairly short and what is currently considered overweight. Beauty standards are a load of hogwash. In her historic portraits I think she's a little cutie. They shouldn't have felt the need to glam her.

The texture of the dress is amazing. Even though it’s a cartoon drawing the fabric looks really realistic

This is basically the plot of The Little Mermaid: Return to the Sea. Ariel's daughter Melody felt trapped in her palace and wondered what it'd be like to be a Mermaid, which she didn't know existed for reasons. An underrated gem, and a great movie with some really great gems of songs. Ariel is also canonically the only Disney Princess in a sequel to have become a mother.

I feel like this is what happened after Wendy showed the lost boys all the Disney films
