Historic Glass-Plate Photos From Romania Restored And Turned Into Colorful Art (Part 2)
Continuing with her Dancing with Costică series, Australian artist Jane Long uses photographs from Romanian photographer Costică Acsinte restores, recolors and transforms them into something unexpected!
Some people love them and some people hate them but there’s little doubt they all involve lots of painstaking retouching in Photoshop. The original images are part of a collection being restored and digitized by Cezar Popescu for the Ialomita County Museum.
The series will be exhibited as part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale from August 22nd.

Share on Facebookso many small details....the field mouse....the womans reflection in the silver teapot.....the flowers are the music.!!! magical.... brilliant and so so enjoyable thank you!
I've commented on poor restorations beforehand, they are relatively easy with good PS skills. However...these are a different level. Love them. Conceptual, Surreal and very well executed. Kudos.
Very interesting imagination you have! A mixture of creepy and beautiful!
Brilliant I love 'em all!!! But wow those kids tho, some of 'em gave me the creeps. Was it a taboo to smile for a photo back then?
A lot of people did smile, the problem was that it took nearly 60 seconds to get an exposure. There's actually a really good article floating around with behind the scene shots of family photos where they have messed up by laughing etc. The problem was after the 20th time of trying to take the photo, people just got fed up of trying to hold the same face and posture...hence the moody looks in older photos. :-)
Load More Replies...Very AMAZING photo manipulations, cool style! I wanted to retouch in this genre, but image manipulations are not my strong points. I send my works to online photo retouching services like FixThePhoto if I need
I really love it. Its very imaginative. Would love a couple prints.
Beautiful and fascinating! I don't find them to be creepy in any way. I'd love to have prints of some of the images.
I am romanian and honestly this gave me chills. I can't imagine my country at the beginning of 19th century, it's so creppy, yet fascinating..
Wwowowowowowow....simply mind blowing. I LOVE it. I love surreal and fantasy themes.... these are absolutely brilliant and so well done. Few reminds of Hayao Miyazaki on a random note.
the only bad thing is that the glass plates are deteriorating in time, because of the fact that our museum doesnt have a proper storage system. Its good to see that people are fascinated by these photos that are representative for our town, slobozia.
Looks like Maggie Taylor's style to me. She's been doing this type work for years. http://maggietaylor.com
