You’ve probably already heard about the infamous Facebook event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us.” Scheduled for September 20th, the event now has almost 2 million attendees and even attracted the attention of the U.S. military. An Air Force spokeswoman has already “discouraged” people from trying to come into the area. However, what happens on the Internet usually stays there, meaning that the event was created only as a joke. Nevertheless, this joke inspired one animal shelter in Oklahoma City to find an ingenious way of attracting people wanting to adopt a pet.

“Come storm our shelter… We have adorable animals ready to protect you from the Area 51 aliens. Adoption isn’t that far out of this world!#stormtheshelter,” the representatives of the animal care center wrote on their Facebook page.

The pet shelter also included some space-themed photos of their cute animals that are up for adoption. They have also dressed up dogs wearing small tin foil hats with an antenna. The post quickly received numerous likes and comments from people. “Well done, OKC, this is brilliant! I hope you get a ton of animal adoptions!” one person commented. “Congratulations to your team for coming up with this incredible idea to help find homes for these babies. Probably the best marketing idea I have seen! Great job!” wrote another.

The shelter now has 116 dogs, 39 cats, and 2 piggies up for adoption

Thanks to the viral post, two of the three pictured dogs were adopted – except for the black one named Lady. The kitty in the photo above has also found a loving home, unfortunately, not the other fur babies. Before being given away to their new homes, all of the pets are spayed or neutered, get vaccinations and treatments for worms, as well as microchips.
Since the shelter’s post on social media went viral, majority of the animals seen in the photos have been adopted

Hopefully, all of them will soon find their forever homes and loving families

For those interested, the shelter is open for adoptions every day from noon until 5:30 pm. In addition to this, you can find all of the animals that are up for adoption by following this link. The adoption fees for dogs and cats are $60; however, it can be reduced due to special circumstances (such as the animal has been up for adoption for more than two weeks, it’s older than four years, it has a certain medical condition, etc.)

Load More Replies...This is really cute and sounds like a good idea in theory, but am I the only one who thinks it may not be such a good idea to encourage people to just head out to an animal shelter and get an animal without necessarily being ready?
I'm sure the shelter still goes through a vetting process for the prospective parents. But it might encourage people who until now haven't considered adoption. Sadly, there are a lot of preconceptions regarding adopting a pet from shelters.
Load More Replies...Terrific post, some big cities have too many unwanted cats and dogs, being creative is a great idea, whatever works, good luck, bless those who adopt and help !!!
Best adoption campaign ever. I see the cats would not allow foil hats, typical.
STORMING AREA 51 TO FIND ALIENS? Do you know what awaits you and the two million others? I can tell you because I just got a copy of the AREA 51 SECURITY MANUAL! It describes everything about the super high-tech sensors that cover Area 51 and so much more! Want to see it? https://www.amazon.com/dp/1513653407
Fun idea. I would just argue that anyone that would storm Area 51 is probably not going to be around to be a pet guardian for very long.
1. Spay or neuter your pet. 2. Do NOT adopt on a whim. Can you afford an animal in your home? 3. Love the one you've got ^;^
