Pinterest is great for inspiration when creating interior design for the home, but it also has a lot to answer for. Because some people take their creative ideas way too far, and end up with monstrosities as you'll find below.
This list, collected by a popular Instagram account called Please Hate These Things, is yet another example of the seemingly endless world of crappy design. These particular examples come from people's homes - so at least the rest of us are spared from their crappiness.

Even though they were written long ago and technology has advanced beyond his wildest dreams, Dieter's principles still apply today!

Furniture designers Vitsoe have worked closely with Dieter Rams for decades, and helpfully summarize his founding principles of good design with the following explanations:
Good design is innovative The possibilities for innovation are not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always offering new opportunities for innovative design. But innovative design always develops in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in itself.
Good design makes a product useful: A product is bought to be used. It has to satisfy certain criteria, not only functional, but also psychological and aesthetic. Good design emphasizes the usefulness of a product whilst disregarding anything that could possibly detract from it.
Good design is aesthetic: The aesthetic quality of a product is integral to its usefulness because products we use every day affect our person and our well-being. But only well-executed objects can be beautiful.

Good design makes a product understandable: It clarifies the product’s structure. Better still, it can make the product talk. At best, it is self-explanatory.
Good design is unobtrusive: Products fulfilling a purpose are like tools. They are neither decorative objects nor works of art. Their design should therefore be both neutral and restrained, to leave room for the user’s self-expression.
Good design is honest: It does not make a product more innovative, powerful or valuable than it really is. It does not attempt to manipulate the consumer with promises that cannot be kept.

All that wood floor, high ceilings, and glass looked great - then they discovered echoes. I bet that room rings like a bell without the rugs.
Some ppl doesn't even realize how awesome space they have lived there all their life. I was helping in interior design in some house which had an Olympic sized gym inside - about 5 meters high and so big you could play soccer in it, it had so many rooms that 1/3 was just used for keeping not used things. It had 4 floors and some rooms were not visited for more than 20 years. I was constantly shocked when I was measuring it, which took more than two weeks for me and our team and it was hard work...
Persian rugs next to an indoor lap pool. As bad as carpet in a bathroom. Plus, the added bonus of completely effing up your wood floor.

It's ok Susan, I'm here for you. I bought 24 rugs/runners when we bought our new flooring so it wouldn't get ruined. Hubby says I wasted his money for the new floor if I was just going to cover it with rugs... well the parts you can see are pretty, I'm saving the rest for later.

It actually looks like fitted carpet under the rugs in all the rest of the room. Hardwood looks only at the bottom of the stair area.

And yet, I'd still take a majority of these over the super creative beige/grey/brown sea of "neutrals" people have been "decorating" with. I don't find that relaxing, just boring and depressing. "oh, you have red throw pillows, how daring" sigh.
My thoughts exactly. When I was decorating my apartment it blew me away how many bland and boring furnishings there were compared to anything with a little bit of character/colour.
