Anti-Vaxxer Mocks Measles With Her Halloween Costume, Gets Shut Down By A Comment From A Medical Professional
313Kviews
A proud anti-vaxxer “fired a shot” at a woman who mocked her entire movement, but people think she’s the one who needs to get the shots.
Everything started when Autumn Dayss posted a picture of her last-minute Halloween costume idea. It featured a tiny skeleton in a baby carrier, with a caption that read “Going to a costume party tonight as Karen and her non-vaccinated child.” The post went viral, accumulating over 36K reactions and 124K shares. It also triggered a few anti-vaxxers, including Heather Simpson.
As a response, Simpson uploaded a photo with her entire body covered in red dots. “Was trying to think of the least scary thing I could be for Halloween,” she wrote. “So I became the measles.”
This woman made fun of anti-vaxxer beliefs with her Halloween costume:
The costume triggered this anti-vaxxer and she made sure to respond:
To give you some background, measles is a highly contagious viral infection that frequently causes a severe flu-like illness accompanied by a rash. According to the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), complications occur in 3 in 10 who get measles and young children are especially vulnerable. “Ear infections and diarrhea are most common, but 1 in 20 will get pneumonia,” the organization wrote. “1 in 1,000 will have brain swelling that can cause deafness and intellectual disability, and 1 or 2 in 1,000 will die.
Before the vaccine was available in 1963, nearly every child got measles by the time they were 15 years old. “The disease sickened 3 to 4 million people and led to about 500 deaths and 48,000 hospitalizations every year.”
She received many comments critiquing her costume choice and this medical professional stood out:
Lots of other people shamed her with their comments:
Later, she posted this ‘apology’ that triggered people even more:
She says she’s proud to be anti-vaxx:

Really? Her response is to compare it to Streptococcus? She really is ignorant. "Strep throat" doesn't kill all those people (maybe some but not all), Streptococcus does. It's the same bacteria, different mode of action. Also it's a bacteria not a virus like measles. There is no vaccine for bacterial infection. Just like there is no antibiotic for viral infections. She is basically comparing apples to oranges. Measles was almost wiped out from the whole world until idiots like her showed up. Now we're getting outbreaks everywhere. LOOK AT THE DATA you over-entitled jackass. Popularity of anti-vaxer BS tracks exactly with rise in disease preventable disease. I wish she would contract measles. The scars would be an appropriate lesson for her pretty little face.
Her response just shows there's no vaccine nor cure for stupid. She & her ilk will continue killing the immuno-compromised (e.g., undergoing chemo, born SCID, too-young-to-vaccinate, unlucky, ... ) just for kicks. Or political points? I just don't know anymore.
Having strep then being exposed to chicken pox at the same time almost killed one of my son's closest friends. He ended up in Sepsis and a coma- hospitalized for weeks and traumatized. * Turns out that he got chicken pox exposed by a kid at his brother's school- some "helpful" parent sent their kid to school with chicken pox, because it "wasn't that serious" , and exposed/sickened multiple kids, including the brother. * no vaccine is 100% effective * but neither is a coat in a blizzard... I certainly wouldn't want to be without one
There absolutely are vaccines for bacterial infections. A vaccine for group A strep is currently being developed.

Thank you- I was thinking the same about bacterial vs viral infections. But you expressed it much more eloquently than I could have done.
You would be fun at the measles parties that used to be thrown in the UK !
I had measles as a kid but I haven’t got any scars from it. Nor did I have scars from German measles which I caught when I was 19, so scars are not automatic. I WAS vaccinated against polio however.
The spread of strep throat is sometimes prevented by removing the tonsils, which is far more invasive than a vaccine.

So one idiot is wrong. But so is anyone who doesn't understand this article among many others are corporate marketing for products that should bear liability lawsuits if defective. Speaking as a corporate attorney who has represented countless big pharma matters (for big pharma).

What saddens me about the whole antivaxx movement is that these are the people who have health insurance and can afford to get their kids vaccinated but choose not to. Then you have poor single mothers who can't afford even a check up at the doctor and would gladly vaccinate their children. I think that once it is made known that someone is antivaxx they should lose their health insurance.
Ohh, good call. I'm sure the insurance companies would love to be able to drop these people as a liability. I wonder if being anti-vax will also someday invalidate your life insurance if they can show it relates to your death. Insurance companies love to be able to not pay out.

Why are you so malicious? Corporate manufacturers create medications with product defects all of the time. Are you braindead?
I love your comment. It hits right at the problem of these anti-vaxxers. They are all overly privileged and have the time to read all the anti-vax BS roaming around the internet. I haven't seen one poor or elderly person on these anti-vax memes or stories. The "mission" that these people are on is going to start seeing results. Unfortunately, it's going to be a rise in MMR, and other conditions that had practically been eliminated due to vaccines.
actually there are free clinics out there that do vaccines for free as well. Yes there's usually a line and in some areas it's only once a month or whatever.... but it's available. Now a days there's just no excuse, unless you're (non vaxers) are ignorant af.
I think they should lose THEIR CHILDREN.

Ask any seasoned teacher about the rising rates of autism, developmental defects, and food intolerances as compared to even only 10 years ago. Corporate brainwashing does wonders.
I'm an educator. The rise is because of greater awareness of autism spectrum & a variety of learning disabilities. Not corporate greed. I also have a close family member who is a leading infectious disease doctor & researcher that would vociferously disagree with you. And before you try to say it- no, he's not on any Big Pharma payroll or beholden to any of them. The SCIENCE is there to back up vaccines. And, no-
I'm not brainwashed
Her actions show her stupidity. Nothing much you can do about stupidity. Can't even vaccinate against it.
You can't cure stupid, but you can whack it upside the head with a 2x4.
or whack it with a sword
Exactly right. Measles has a vaccine but stupid is chronic.
We need to make legislation to put all of the antivax people on their own quarantined island. No vaccines, no interaction with our healthy societies.
