This Person Shows How Flawed Anti-Vaxxer Logic Is By Using It In A Post About Choking On Food
If you can’t beat em’ join em. Anti-vaxxers come up with some pretty ridiculous arguments on the internet so instead of arguing one internet user decided to write a post on their own unpopular view – that food is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. For many anti-vaxxers, their talking points include examples of times people developed other serious conditions as a result of vaccines, so this poster decided to use the same tactic in their analogy.

She started by telling her own story as an anti-vaccination analogy example “I once almost choked to death while eating food” and telling other parents it had caused her to make a very serious decision – “I don’t feed my kids.” The author continued to point out that every parent should be able to decide what to do with their kids but, “I’m just saying, do your own research and decide what you think is best for your kids” and that “If you choose to give your kids potentially deadly food, that’s your problem.”

While many found the post a hilarious vaccination analogy, there is always some truth in comedy. According to Injury Facts 2017 choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional injury death. Of the 5,051 people who died from choking in 2015, 2,848 were older than 74. “Food is often responsible for choking incidents in the elderly. Living alone, and having dentures or difficulty swallowing can increase risk. If you see someone clutching their throat, coughing, gagging, wheezing or passed out.”
Vaccines cause autism, I'm sure of it. Once Bigfoot and I finished our Kennedy investigation, and fake moon landing cover up; Elvis took me to the edge of the flat earth and told me that vaccines cause autism.
Aliens visited my house, flew me out of the flat earth and told me "Vaccines are useless junk that kill. We ask fellow aliens on Bored Globflorp for advice against preventable epidemics because vaccines are doodoo".
I've just marked all vaccine-related deaths on a map and connected them with lines - they all intersect in one point on the Earth. Haven't guessed yet what the point is? Area 51!
Zoom in and enhance. It's not Area 51. It's the "diner and souvenir shop" just south of there. I'm just sayin' don't trust the chicken salad sandwich and that keychain is likely a geotag.
Holy crap, what did the aliens do you to spout such nonsense! Bigfoot is a totally unreliable source of information about the Kennedy investigation, you should talk to the alligators in the sewers under the grassy knoll. And Elvis -- "My aim is true"?? By the way, is it just me, or did anyone else not notice that he looks like the love child of Buddy Holly and Bono?
The hell you on about? 🙄 The alligators in the sewers under the grassy knoll are total idiots. You need to talk to the saltwater crocodiles who live in the onion trees. Also, Bigfoot is my great aunt twice removed and he knows more about the Kennedy investigation than ANYONE, ya big dingus.
Um....I beg to differ. Bigfoot is currently the records keeper and third in command in the Illuminati. I think he would know far more about the Kennedy investigation than anyone.
and the shadow government consisting of lizard people and illuminati started administering vaccines via chemtrails. Wake up sheeple! Put on your tinfoil hats for protection.

You believe in the Earth?! Pfffft ;) (My response to every flat earther).
I've said it before, in the comment section of another article about anti-vaxxers, so I apologise for repeating myself. I have autism and I was vaccinated as a child. I was also vaccinated as an adult, as it was a necessary requirement in order to do my job as a biomedical scientist. When I read stories of parents not vaccinating their children because they think it causes autism, it's incredibly hurtful. They're essentially saying, they'd prefer it if their child died from a completely archaic and avoidable disease, than have autism. I know which option my mother preferred; her child being alive and autistic, instead of being dead. Also, my immune system is shocking as I have a bunch of other health problems, including kidney disease. I'm curious to know how a parent would explain to my parents, how their unvaccinated child was a catalyst for my totally avoidable demise. That's a genuine question and if somebody is able to answer it, I'd be truly grateful.
My son has ASD. And although he is high functioning, he struggles everyday with emotional and sensory issues. Did he get this condition from a vaccine? I really DGAF. I would rather have him alive and autistic then dead from a disease that took several other people out in it's wake. That being said..I seriously don't believe vaccines are the cause more than I believe that it's genetic. And the reason I believe this is because dozens of studies have not only identified the genes, but Canadian medical groups are now using those genes to identify autism in children as early as 6 weeks old. Anti-vaxxers need to pull there heads out of their collective a$$e$ and stop listening to celebrities that have no medical training of any kind...
My son is on the spectrum, and if given the opportunity to do everything all over again, I'd choose to vaccinate him again. He's a perfect child who brings joy to everyone who meets him. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism.
I must have missed that comment, so thanks for repeating yourself. In other news, Antivaxxer kids are getting themselves vaccinated, I saw that in the news this week. (NPR, i think. maybe it was the NYT website).
danielw- You're welcome. I've also been reading about the children of antivaxxers getting themselves vaccinated. In my other comment, I also said I was curious to know if these antivax people get the flu shot. I'd genuinely like to know.
Thank you to everyone for your lovely responses, I really appreciate it. Vaccines absolutely do not cause autism and the fact this is still ongoing blows my mind. I also wonder if the anti vaccination people would have the same mentality if they lived in a country where death from these archaic diseases are still a reality. Would they still think the same, or would they walk for miles and miles and stand in line for hours and hours, to give their child the simple human right of being alive?
I work with autistic children. To answer your question about the flu vaccine: No. These anti-vax parents do not get the the flu vaccine, or any other kind of vaccine. They also stop all vaccinations once their child is diagnosed with autism. That realization struck me as especially odd. They think vaccines caused the child's autism, so... They think further vaccinations will do what? Make them more autistic? It blows my mind. I'm also very disturbed by most parent's attitude toward their autistic children. They want to "cure" them. I have to constantly remind them that their child is fine just the way they are. I am there to help them learn to deal with, and interact with, the world around them. I accept them as they are and I have no desire to change them. But these parents want their child to be "normal". Get real; no one is "normal". If you try to make someone be "normal", you will make them feel even more "weird".
Thank you for making me more aware of how hurtful this is for someone who is on the spectrum. I hadn't really thought of that but you're right they are essentially saying the child is better off dead than autistic but what does that say about their opinion of people with autism? To answer your question I don't think they would lose sleep over someone else's completely preventable death. I mean they aren't even capable of thinking about their children.
Thank you Amina for saying it. Please, repeat yourself as often as necessary! Along with the harm, we need to know just how hurtful this attitude is to people on the spectrum.
You are missing the point. It's not "I'd rather be autistic than not vaccinated" ... there simply is NO CORRELATION between vaccinations and autism. Some people react to vaccines, but they do not get autism. So while you think you are supporting vaxxers you're actually supporting that non-existent link.
Whew! Damn near went 6 days between anti-vaxxer posts. Good thing for the constant barrage of them or I'd forget what the issue was. Thanks BP for anti-vaxx-shaming post #637! *sigh *
