Shop Owner Pens A Mic-Drop Reply After A Customer Who Wouldn’t Wear A Mask Properly Left Them A 1-Star Review

Shop Owner Pens A Mic-Drop Reply After A Customer Who Wouldn’t Wear A Mask Properly Left Them A 1-Star Review

Masks have been at the center of a lot of debates these days. And while the greater part of society sees them as life-savers as an abundance of scientific studies have shown they’re critical in fighting the coronavirus, some sceptics are still not convinced.

Recently, a shop owner received a 1-star review from an infuriated customer who made it sound like it was the worst place on earth to shop. But the owner realized it was just the right thing to do and replied to the complaint by giving their side of the story.

“Writing a nasty review on every source you can find will not stop us from protecting what is important to us,” the owner stated in a mic-drop response. It soon became clear that the customer’s frustration came from the fact that they refused to wear a mask while in the store. But with the pandemic still scavenging around the globe, is wearing one really too much to ask?

The angry customer left the store a 1-star review for terrible customer service, but it soon turned out not everything was how it sounded

Because of the worldwide pandemic, many jurisdictions require individuals to wear face coverings in public spaces, including retail and food stores, and other businesses. But no business owner is ever safe from a customer who refuses to wear a mask, whether politely or aggressively.

So what should a business owner know in case they run into one? Well, first, one should know that The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects an individual’s right to free speech from infringement by the U.S. Government—not a private business. That means that customers and employees have no constitutional free speech rights in a private business or workplace.

But the owner penned this mic-drop response and it all became very clear why the customer was so unhappy

According to Jackson Lewis, a company that joins 950 attorneys throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico who address every aspect of the employer-employee relationship, “A business need not accommodate someone if doing so would impede the business’s ability to safely provide its goods and services.”

“In light of the CDC guidance, customers can be required to wear masks or other suitable face coverings (e.g., bandana, face shield, and the like) subject to applicable state and local ordinances mandating masks.” As a result, businesses indeed have a basis to not accommodate an unmasked customer as long as no-contact shopping alternatives are communicated to the customer where a disability is involved.

Encouraging in-store mask use before any incident happens is also one way to avoid a possible misunderstanding. Make sure to communicate your mask policy with very clear signage that includes both your business’s and your state’s face covering requirements. The less you leave for customers to decide upon themselves, the less questions you’ll have.

And this is what people had to comment on the incident

They should call "anit-maskers" what they really are, murderers. Don't wear a mask. Get the virus. Spread it to someone else so they get sick, watch them have a bad time with it an die. If only there were a way to really prove that person A didn't wear a mask and spread it to person B who got it and died. After a few convictions and prison sentences, people would be wearing their masks.

Unique and interesting idea. I think with genetic testing they might be able to trace the route of transmission. People can be prosecuted for spreading AIDS, so there’s precedent.

Their "threat" to only shop online removes them from the general population in stores, so winners all round? The store wasn't going to get business from them while they refused to comply with the rules, so the threat only works after all this blows over.

I just don't understand why it is so hard for people to wear a mask. You wear shoes to protect your feet, gloves in the winter to protect your hands from the cold and an umbrella when it rains. A mask is really no different. Just freaking wear one!!

I agree with you, AND I will add that it also protects other people. Insisting on "my rights" when it literally endangers other people not to wear one AND IS SUCH A FREAKING SIMPLE THING TO DO is selfish, weak, whiny, and babyish.

Over the last couple of weeks, things have really come into perspective for me. I was in a car accident where I was hit on the driver's side and the fire department had to cut the door off to get me out. I later learned that I have spinal stenosis and that is why I have been hurting lately. With all of that going on in my life, wearing a mask when I go shopping is the least of my problems. I don't understand why wearing a mask has become a debate and something to argue over. If you can't wear a mask to protect yourself and others then you need to stay home. Leaving 1 star reviews because you were asked to wear a mask is very childish.

I wear mine because im 2 yrs cancer free and still a bit weak from all treatments. I wear a mask that is comfortable for me. You dont want to wear one fine then stand at least 10 to 15 feet away. You dont know someones reason for wearing one or to have you wear one around them. Sil didnt want the vaccine (the only one in the family) but when i said taking the shot she is protwcting me because of the cancer and my elderly parents (mid 80s). When she thought of it that way she decided to get one. For those that refuse to wear a mask what would you do with a very sick relative needing surgery and the doctor refuses to wear one and they have a serious illness that would spread wirhout it. Would you throw a fit because they wont wear one? Then you can d### well wear one for the ahort time you are in an establishment. Otherwise you are a selfish idiot who doesnt care except for themselves.

Just a question: why is this considered a private property issue by some but when a store refused to decorate a cake the way someone asked that private business owner was dragged through the mud in the public square, sued and likely financially hurt or ruined?
