Thats a joke. I have a son and worked at mcdonalds. 535 every 2 weeks. 500 rent, then the power bill, food...yeah, they said I made too much.

Actually, most do not have access to any health care, dental or vision. Also, there is a move to lower our access to health care, etc., by the current administration. Also, most employer's are now raising the premiums and the deductibles for the little bit of health care they do offer. So screwed is what the average American is.

My brother got laid off from a job at age 59. He did not have enough money for COBRA or any other health plan. He was too young for Medicare and did not qualify for Medicaid. The state offered health care assistance but they told him he needed to be out of work for 18 months -- a year and a half -- to qualify for that. He ended up paying the health care penalty, precisely for the reasons you cite.

Medicare DOES NOT cover a lot of things, including psychological help. I know because I'm on it.

Medicare is not free. They have a deductible and a copay that many people cannot afford. Their guidelines are ridiculous and leave several people paying out of their pockets for things they actually need.

In some states poor adults can get medicaid, in other states it's just for poor kids, poor pregnant women, and disabled.

Medicare is not "free". Check your pay stub. Even after you are on Medicare, you still pay for (deducted from Social Security).

Doctors that accept Medicaid and Medicare are not always the best in the field. Don't forget the last Medical Student to graduate in their class is still called Doctor.

Not true ,at least the last bit. You will always get treatment for any type of emergency/or life threatening sickness as long as you go to the ER. You will get a bill however. Are the people who treat you not suppose to get paid for the time and effort they put in on helping you. If so then they will be broke. That's how socialism works , everyone one is equally broke as f**k.

In Germany I get 10$ for each day staying in hospital...

And that would cover possible medication and meeting a psychiatrist. Similar in Finland.

Cherry Warr - kudos!. I'm sick of all the whining from all the entitled Americans shouting unfairness from their bubbles. I think it's because they've seen so little real hardship, they don't know what it's like on the outside. It's frustrating.

Why do most americans think they don't then?

What I mean is have it paid for through taxes and then you don't have to worry about shelling out money you can't afford in order to keep yourself alive. I feel extremely lucky that we have the NHS here in the UK, it is an invaluable service which is the most appreciated (by its citizens at least, can't say for our government). I just don't get why America thinks it would be better to stress over the costs?
