Sure, the coronavirus is surely a bad thing to happen to the world, not only because it’s deadly given the circumstances and it’s doing a darn good job stopping the world dead in its tracks by affecting economies and lifestyles.

But, you have to admit, there is a silver lining here as it does urge you to stay at home more and this allows you to catch up on all of the movies and series that you missed when they came out.

And film companies weren’t snoozing during this time either—they’ve been hard at work creating new things, including the recently completed remake of The Witches where Anne Hathaway underwent a bit of a gruesome transformation into a witch.

Anne Hathaway recently posted on Instagram a teaser of the new “The Witches” remake that she’s in

And after many movies where she played a beauty, people were surprised to see her play a rather terrifying witch

So, Anne Hathaway shared on her Instagram a short teaser trailer for the 2020 movie The Witches, set to be available on October 22 on HBO Max.

In it, she and her castmates, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, and Jahzir Bruno, explain what actual witches look like—they don’t have hands, but rather claws, and hence always wear long sleeves; they have larger nostrils; they all wear wigs, for they have no hair; they don’t have toes on their feet—and remain quasi-in-character as they do so for extra effect.

Hathaway’s character and her witch friends are said to have bald heads, claw, wide gaping mouths and no toes

The trailer begins with a chilling intro by Anne herself saying “Here’s the thing you need to know about witches: they’re real, they’re here, and they live amongst us.”

It also features moments from the movie, most notably how different Hathaway looks in the role of a witch. Not only does her makeover include her being completely bald for the part of the Grand High Witch, but she gained some scars along the way—specifically, mouth slits to justify her creepily wide witch smile.

Hathaway will play the Grand High Witch, the antagonist of the movie based on Roald Dahl’s 1983 classic book

The Witches is a remake of the 1990 dark fantasy comedy film of the same name directed by Nicolas Roeg. It starred the likes of Anjelica Huston, Rowan Atkinson, Mai Zetterling, Bill Paterson, and many others.

The 2020 remake will include a completely new cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock (in voice only, though), and Jahzir Bruno.

Said to be based on Roald Dahl’s 1983 classic book, also of the same name, the movie will retell the scary, comedic, and imaginative tale of a young boy who runs into some mean real-life witches who end up turning him into a mouse. And so the adventures begin.

After being postponed, the movie is now set to launch in a week’s time, October 22 on HBO Max

While the 2020 remake’s release date has already been postponed due to the pandemic and is not out yet (it would have been otherwise), it is set to be available in a week’s time, on October 22 on HBO Max. Until then, be sure to free up your movie schedule and prepare some popcorn for a few hours of magic and adventure.

While some thought it’s not as scary or as good as the original (at least judging from the trailers and teasers), others did still agree that Hathaway looks fantastic as the Grand High Witch and that they’ll still be giving it a watch once it comes out.
