I Flew 25 Hours To Australia Just To See The Cutest Animals In The World – Quokkas

When I first saw a quokka on some random image on the Internet, my husband told me that I resembled them more than anything else. Having once looked at them – it is already impossible to forget them. And we went to Australia. Probably more because of them than anything else, although many animals in Australia are incredibly cute.

More info: Instagram

Quokkas live on the islands of Rottnest, Bald, Penguin and some isolated sites in Western Australia where there are no foxes and cats – the only places on Earth where they still live.

On the mainland, the quokkas were eaten by everyone who could eat them – they are small and rather helpless.

We flew for 25 hours to see them and then sailed another 1.5 hours on the ferry.

And it was all worth it. Happier than myself, I have not felt anywhere. Just lying on the sand and offering them a leaf.

You can not touch the quokkas, but when they themselves are pressed against you, your face, you cannot think of anything nicer.

Now that I’m sad or tired – I remember that day and look at the quokkas.

Quokkas are super duper low in numbers. There are less than 8,000 left in the wild, and they are continuing to decline. It makes me happy that she is putting in an effort to make people aware of these adorable animals. Hats off to you!

Never heard of them until today - adorable creatures. Hope the decline is reversed.

Now I feel bad. I've lived in Australia for practically my whole life (minus one year) and have never seen a quokkas in my life and have had no interest in seeing one. This person flew twenty-five hours just to see one.

They are adorable creatures. My concern is that because they have no history with humans, they are not afraid. The more people that know about them, the more likely it is that we will interfere with them in a dangerous and disastrous way, and we will probably wipe them out within a few years.

as far as I know it is illegal to touch them, you can take pics and all but you can't touch them. So i don't think it's quite right for her to lean her face onto one either...

This is obnoxious. There are rules when visiting the quokkas. Failure to follow SIMPLE rules causes others to lose the privilege of enjoying wildlife. Just because you resemble a quokka, you do not have to follow the rules? That is B.S. https://www.rottnestisland.com/the-island/about-the-island/quokkas-and-wildlife

Hopefully they are using any money raised from visiting them to ensure their continued breeding. Would visit them if they were (when bank account allows it). Got one of those as the pic on my phone.

They ARE very very cute. I love them also. But... You DO know they are riddled with fleas and ticks. The ticks can give you a nasty nasty skin infection or worse. Maybe it's not such a great idea to nestle into a wild animal?

Good for her. She has obviously not worried these animals and has brought worldwide attention to their plight. She deserves credit not condemnation. Thank you for sharing. Some of these people really need to lighten up. That wacky comment about climate change is ridiculous.

Yeah, let's here it for Climate Change! A day in a plane to see some (cute) animals, well done there!! If you're lucky, the island they live on will be covered by the rising oceans. Prick!

It's not impressive to have sexual relations with quokkas. If you can bang a cheetah, that would be deserving of a bp post. Thanks for wasting the thirty five minutes it took me to view this post
