Mom Finds Out Her Vegetarian Son Ate Meat Pie At A Birthday Party, Loses It

Recently, a confused 39-year-old woman turned to the Ask Reddit community for advice regarding an incident that happened at her 10-year-old son’s birthday party.

“He invited 6 of his friends for a sleepover. I made sure to let all parents know about time, date, etc. and also asked about food allergies,” the Redditor ChickenSchnitty92 wrote. “One mum responded saying her son Alex was vegetarian, I said no problem, I would have vegetarian options for him,” she recounted.

When the day came, everything went according to the plan. Except for the moment when the author came back with more food and saw Alex munching on meat pies.

At that point, she stepped back and didn’t do anything because she said she didn’t want to embarrass the child. As you may suspect, Alex’s mom didn’t like it when she heard about it…

The author added that she made sure that the kid knew which foods she served had meat in them

At 6yo, my daughter knows and remembers veggie options anywhere. She will even ask or not eat if she's not sure, on her own and even without my supervision. If Alex is 10, either he wants to eat meat or he hasn't been raised to think about what he's eating because at home everything is vegetarian. I've seen both.

My 5yo niece knows exactly what she can and cannot eat due to her allergies.

The craziest thing about it is the friend's mom expected OP to cater to her son and serve veg ONLY. So completely insufferable.

Right, she didn't even ask OP- it didn't even occur to her- she just assumed that once OP was informed that one child was vegetarian that the entire party would subsequently be 100% meat-free. Now THAT'S an ego!

Brings back memories from when I worked at camps. The parents would ask for vegatarian/halal food, we had a special table for that and after a while learned to just put a tiny amount of food there as all kids happily took the chance to eat meat/pork. Our instructions was to make sure allergic kids had the right food and let the rest roam free. And they surely did.

Halal food indicates a possible Muslim family which means that pork and sweet potatoes are off the menu as they are seen as unclean in that religion. Also, the mixing of milk and meat during cooking in Jewish faith is strictly forbidden.
