‘Andre The Giant’ Documentary Reveals The Unseen Side Of The Legend, And It’s Heartbreaking
HBO documentaries have one more fantastic addition – Jason Hehir’s movie ‘Andre the Giant.’ It has unveiled a completely different side of the legendary tallest man in the world. André René Roussimoff (1946-1993) was known to the world as André the Giant, a French-born international wrestling superstar, actor, and unofficially the carrier of “the greatest drunk on Earth” title. However, the documentary reveals that he drank because he was in pain. Roussimoff denied treatment for fear that it would change his body on which he built his entire career on. André weighed 520 lb and was 7 ft 4 in tall and suffered from acromegaly, or “giantism.”
Wrestling legends Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair, actors Robin Wright and Billy Crystal, as well as André’s family and friends, offer a unique insight into the legend’s life. From personal emotional struggles to dangerous farts, the sports documentary shows André the Giant facts of the particular person that he was, a man who couldn’t find comfort in the world that was not made for him. It’s a small wonder that people were quick to express their feelings on the documentary, so scroll down below to read them.

Honestly, I probably love everything about The Princess Bride, and Andre is great in it. Sad to hear he had so many troubles in his life.

I read an interview with him once. He had a farm in the U.S. he loved because he said the animals never judged him.
I did some research, and it sounds like he was a good guy outside the ring. Also, he was apparently very gentle and one of the most caring people. Sad to see so many people naming him stuff like the "monster". He was a human being, and was just built on a bigger scale than the rest of us. Like Iz Kamakawiwoʻole, he just needed a bigger body for his bigger (even though he was a wrestler) heart.
Some times I wonder was old time people are all his size? After technology progress and we rely less and less on our physical body hence our size become smaller like how we are now...?
I grew up with these super heroes. So many of them are gone now. It is such a short life for these awesome athletes. I have said it for years, what ever they get paid, is not enough. You are forever missed, Andre.
There is a picture of him with Arnold Schwarzenegger and he looks just tiny next to Andre !
Not being "typical" ("normal" seems too judgemental) is difficult....too smart (nerdy), not smart enough (intellectually impaired)...too big (giant or obese), too small (midget or dwarf). Knowing Andre's painful story gives us great compassion for those who have to fit in. But of all, I am overjoyed he was cast in Princess Bride. He did not have to posture, throw people to the floor, promote himself...he could just be big, strong, and funny, with a cast that adored him, and fans that will remember him for their lives. "Anybody want a peanut?".......Perfect....PERFECT!
yet, my brother is 7'4 but normal body portion sized, just tall, too bad he doesn't have acromegaly/ giantism or he could be just as well known, hes only like he is from Seto syndrome from when he was tiny
