Americans Were Asked To Place European Countries On A Map. Here’s What They Wrote:

How sure are you of your geographical knowledge? Americans’ geography knowledge was recently put to the test with a survey in which participants had to write in countries’ names on a blank map of Europe. Unfortunately, they didn’t fare too well, but some of their responses are hilarious (or hilariously misinformed).
But don’t be so quick to judge Americans – when a similar survey was testing Brits’ knowledge of the 50 United States, they also came up short. On the one hand, knowing a country’s states is different from knowing independent countries on the map, but on the other, some U.S. states are larger than some European nations, and some U.S. states have greater economies than some European nations.
The gaps in these survey-takers’ knowledge also speak to historical and political realities. Very few survey-takers could correctly identify the former Soviet satellites, parts of Eastern Europe, or the nations that make up the Balkan peninsula. Many of the countries in these areas haven’t been around (independently) for quite as long as their counterparts in less turbulent parts of Europe’s map.
No matter what, though, after this Europe map quiz we can all probably agree that there are at least a few Americans who should dust off the old atlas or geography textbook and check out what the world looks like across the pond!
Now, scroll down for a map of European countries geography lesson below!

Astonishing! And this nation considers itself the master of the world!
It is I mean think about all the stuff and innovation we have created phone, internet, computer, mechanical machines that do are work, there are far more and it’s only natural that the one with the most powerful be at the top am I wrong I think your just mad at the fact that where you come from they don’t have nearly as many thing
The US did not invent all of the modern technology used today. It is not agreed on who invented cars, but most people credit Karl Benz, who was German. Henry Ford may have improved cars later on, but did not invent them. Computers were also invented by a German engineer. Also, most Europeans can locate at least a few of the major states of the US. But how many Americans do you think can even NAME just ONE state of Austria? Or a county of Norway?
SIR NO henry ford did not improve them he created them
Yeah, I'm an American and I never studied European countries in school, or even American states (kinda skipped a grade). Learned the map of South America in Spanish class, though!
Lord, even every Russian schoolchild knows about all the countries in the world. You are just stupid
No you are, what is wrong with you, you self entitled nationalist brat
What if Europeans were asked to name and point on a map even 1/5th of the U.S. of America or two-three administrative regions in Russia? They'd probably fail miserably (and so would you), and yet, these two countries are more important to world politics and economy (as you seem to suggest) than the whole of Europe taken together, with its eurocentric tradition that affords a false sense of superiority to its otherwise quite ignorant subjects like yourself.
states aren't countries, americans can't pin point north korea....

LOL and did you see how poorly the European folks did when labeling states in the US? Ya, might want to check that out before you open your mouth any further. ROTFL!
Lt Darkstar are you just seriously said that? there is a different between a nation and a state, they remember your country's name, they may did poorly in labeling states in the US but at least they know some thing, even a bit. can you name any state of any country in Europe without google it.
What if I'd tell you that Romania for example (that most of the quiz participants had no clue about it whereabouts) has 41 states? Anyway, do you even know the US neighbors? seriously ask yourself that :)
What if I told you that Europeans know much more about geography than Americans ?
Most Americans probably can't even NAME just one German state, maybe except for Bavaria, which I find to be the most well-known. Or, which Indian state the Taj Mahal is in. In fact, a lot of Americans don't even know other countries even have different states.
what if i told you we dont really need to know how everthing else is, we visit them, take note of them, then go home
Hey that's not too terrible. I wouldn't be able to place all 50 US states correctly either. And yet, this is good entertainment.
Yes, but states and countries are really different, countries and really quite basic, and you learn them from a young age in europe
You don't learn the provinces of the European countries at school either, right?
No, we just learn the provinces of the countries we live in
I don't remember doing it.
Hey! I come from Croatia also known as "affordable vacations" or "they are all fake" and as an european I must say that was truly entertaining!!
East and west Germany, seriously what the fuck?! Doesn't America have Geography taught in schools or something?! :(
I know that's a rhetorical question, but we actually aren't taught geography in school, like at all.
