In the UK they're called bockwurst. The "American style" hotdogs are shorter and made with the worst possible processed meat that has grit in it (pretty sure it's bone) and I hate them. It just makes me think America doesn't care about food quality.
In America we joke hot dogs are made from lips and a******s... but it's not really a joke. They are generally made from the scraps of meat.

This explains the disgusting pizza. Nothing American about that or any of the other garbage other countries are labeling "American". It's just marketing. Really strange how it pissed everyone off. Here we have American Salad which is mayo, yogurt, peas, diced carrots, pickles, and potatoes. It's actually Russian but they didnt want to call it that during the Cold War. Sometimes snacks really are about that, eh? ;)
And why is the "6+1 gratis" not in either German or English? "Gratis" is both Dutch and Spanish. I have so many questions.

Meica also makes "Deutschländer"...., there are around 8 different names for 3 different for this types of sausages in Germany /Austria. The hot dog ones are usually the cheapest quality they offer Hot Dogs at the main station here for 1 €. Yuck!
I don't know if these are still available in the US but I remember them fro the 1950's My mom bought them once to bring on vacation. Never saw them again.

I've never, ever seen hot dogs in a jar in America. Pickled sausages? Sure. Hot dogs? No, those come in a plastic package in the refrigerated section usually near the meat section of the store.

I think it's to do with a name alignment with the same product available in different countries. Many products have changed names over the years. In the UK, Marathon bars became Snickers, Opal Fruits became Starburst, Jif became Cif, etc.

I'm surprised Snickers, Milky Way, Mars, and 3 Musketeers candy bars aren't on this list. . Cuz that one's confusing. Here goes.........The U.S. Milky Way is sold as the Mars bar everywhere else. The international Milky Way is sold as 3 Musketeers in the U.S., The original U.S. Mars bar was a 3 Musketeers with almonds, but later added caramel, and then was renamed Snickers Almond. And regular Snickers used to be known as Marathon internationally.
Well SURPRISE Australia clearly couldn't decide between Mars bars and Milky Ways so now we have both
