The artist focused on the problems of the mass following and on the fact that people tend to not act individually and are easily influenced by masses or figures of power.

What I see is two people having striped themselves of the costume of war, embrace in a controversial expression of love while trapped in an amphitheatre of hate. They are center stage of hate, with haters built into the very walls of their the society. But their commitment to the kiss allows them to ignore the abuse around them. I am from Europe and don't know what you lot are on about. I google mapped some borders between the USA and Mexico and where there are towns/cites close to the border, there are already 'walls'.
