Sylvie Facon is a French designer whose creations are like no other. Combining her talent in painting, embroidery, and textile design, the artist has developed a unique style that is characterized by lace, guipure, tulle, and muslin. Her dresses are true works of art, with each one telling a story through a combination of textile patterns, draped effects, embroidery stitches, touches of paint, and shards of pearls. Inspired by nature, vegetation, and flowers, as well as Pre-Raphaelite painting and the dreamlike universe of tales, Facon's designs are imbued with a sense of poetry that is both enchanting and captivating.

Sylvie's favorite fabric, lace, is the cornerstone of her creations, offering a multitude of uses that allow her to explore new colors, textures, and shapes. The transparency of the background tulle, the dullness of the patterns, and the lightness of the fabric all work together to create intricate and delicate designs that seem to come straight out of a fairy tale. Whether you're a lover of fashion or art, Sylvie Facon's designs are sure to leave you spellbound with their breathtaking beauty and unique style.

Bored Panda reached out to Sylvie Facon to find out more about her work and the inspiration behind her unique designs. First, we asked about her background and how she first became interested in fashion and design. Sylvie answered: “In reality, it is not fashion that interests me: the dress as it is designed is just a support for the creation, like a painter's canvas, on which I can express myself. My dresses are not ‘à la mode’: they are timeless. Besides, fashion doesn't interest me.”

Sylvie’s designs are significantly different from many other creations on the fashion market. In order to find out more about her creative process, we asked her to tell us more about the steps she follows from the initial idea to the finished product and ready dress. The artist told us: “When an idea comes to me, I make a sketch while reflecting on the materials and techniques to be associated. Then, I carry out all the steps until the last point.”

We wanted to know about any particularly challenging or rewarding projects the artist has worked on in her career so far. Sylvie told us: ”I collaborate with a company that creates and manufactures lace: the Jean Bracq establishments. They provide me with everything I need and in exchange I obviously quote them when I use their products. Lace offers a wide variety of aspects and this makes it very interesting: from the finest to the most opaque, it can be used as a paint palette. As I am a passionate person, I like all the challenges and especially using materials that in principle we do not use on dresses.”

When looking at dresses created by Sylvie, you can definitely notice their dreamlike, fairy-tale quality. We asked about some of the inspirations behind these designs. The designer told us: “My main inspirations are nature, the heritage of my city, and books.”

The work is so stunning and ethereal. I adore designing 'outside the box'. The models are perfect for each of the settings and their dresses. So pleasing to view. I hope your work is hugely recognized and greatly appreciated!

"In Flanders Fields, the poppies grow/between the crosses/row on row......." Poppy seeds lie dormant till disturbed, such as when a soldier is found, or a weapon in a field, and then they burst into bloom.
