Woman Refuses To Remove Her Rose Garden, So Allergic Neighbor Takes Care Of It Herself And Gets The Cops Called On Her
Recently, a 25-year-old woman and the owner of the house where she has been living all her life turned to the AITA community for some advice.
In a post that amassed 4.2k upvotes, the woman explained how she recently got a new neighbor who is allergic to her roses. “She lives right next door and won’t stop complaining about my roses,” the author wrote.
The author believes that it’s not her fault: “She should have considered that I had plants when she first went to buy the house. It’s not like it was the cheapest option or anything, I live in a pretty expensive neighborhood,” she argued.
As the tension between them was reaching the boiling point, the author caught her neighbor chopping away at the roses in her garden on camera. This was enough to cause a heated confrontation, so scroll down to find out how it all ended.

She "can't trust doctors with her diagnosis" sounds an awful lot like "she's full of it" to me. Either a hypochondriac or just a liar.
Yeah, she's not even diagnosed with a real disorder and even if she was, it's an easy fix. She just has not not trespass on her neighbor's property and not mess up the plants that she's allegedly allergic to like a weirdo.
Load More Replies...This lady is obviously not actually allergic, she just has a compulsive need to control people. This site makes me feel so lucky to have always had reasonable neighbors.
I had an annoying one who kept complaining about my bougainvillea dropping one or two flowers in her driveway. She asked me to cut it down and I refused. Don't make me plant a camellia!! lol
Load More Replies...So, there's a comment from OP further down the thread just before the edit appeared. "after I found out she was cutting my roses? Just checked my camera again and SHE IS LOOKING THROUGH MY WINDOWS I'm calling the cops.". Apparently this batcrap crazy neighbour was just on some kind of power trip?
If she was so allergic, how could she handle or be near the roses when she cut them? And who diagnosed her if she doesn't trust doctors? Herself? Crazy.
The story said she was wearing a mask. Almost any mask that will protect the wearer from viruses and bacteria will protect against allergies as well.
Load More Replies...We had a neighbor who was furious that "our tree" shed on their car. they demanded we cut down the tree. I suggested they not park on our property. They demanded we cut down the tree. They're actually quite fortunate I'm not as rednecky as my late father, who'd have just shot their car tires out. TLDR: People are nuts.
I concur that "can't trust doctors with it" is code for "it's not real and I don't have it".
I would bet my liver that this woman is not allergic. She just tries this excuse because she doesn't like roses for some reason and wants them gone. If she was truly allergic, and the allergy was airborne, she couldn't have gotten close enough to cut them
Exactly. And if the allergy is not airborne it won't cause her a problem to live next door.
Load More Replies..."couldn't trust doctors about their diagnosis" WELL THEN Who diagnosed her with "rose allergy" in the first place ? She's probably an Anti-Science/Mask/Vaccine on a Karen-trip
Oh God this triggers me so hard! As a child grew up in a house my (previously dirt poor) father built himself, from foundation to roof, all plumbing, HVAC, indoor trim, everything, when i was born and raised me there till I was 14. He planted baby trees in the front yard that grew to be typical (here) 50' tall f trees. At 14 new neighborhors moved in behind us. We had a 180 degree view of the water blocks from the beach. The new neighborhood wanted MORE view than their property came with. They demanded my dad cut his trees. As a native American he's big on nature and refused. They proceeded to harass us, thrraten us, trespass, call cops, file lawsuits, Etc, till my sister stopped eating from the ulcer she developed due to stress, and my dad had a nervous breakdown. He sold and we fled. It destroyed our family. Later I heard the creepy neighbor dad killed someone in a DUI, his cheating wife left him, sold their house anyway. Some people are just evil. I wish we'd fought harder to stay.
I am almost as much as a rose lover as a dog lover. i would go absolutely batsh!t crazy if someone would damage my roses on purpose. (I have also never ever heard of a rose allergy -how is that even supposed to work? Tthere is no pollen coming from them)
Same!! My house was built in 1946 so I have several that were planted when the house was new and the smell divine!!
Load More Replies...How is she cutting the roses if she is so deathly allergic to them that she can’t even be near them? Ffs
"couldn't trust doctors with her diagnosis" ? That tells me the silly bat isn't allergic at all. She's just pulling this stupid stunt as an excuse to be a crappy neighbour and find someone she hopes to control. I really do hope the police do that for her.
There is more going on here. I feel she is using an allergy to roses ( which is unheard of?) to be a bit of a loony, control freak. You just don't tell someone (who has lived there for years and you just moved in) that they have to accommodate your trivial needs or else. If anyone has a life threatening allergy or reaction, you would definitely choose a property that keeps you away from such things. I think this neighbour is lying and I feel sorry for the OP as I think she now has a problem neighbour who's going to cause lots of other issues than just this one.
Something that happened a while back with us. Neighbor cut down our raspberry bushes cause I guess she didn't like how they looked? She wasn't even allergic. We can't grow them back again.
I have those and I would close my s**t if someone touched them!!
Load More Replies...Adding to people's comments in support of OP, rose bushes are a permanent fixture, it's not like she added 536 blooming annuals unexpectedly after neighbor moved in (which still wouldn't make the neighbors actions okay, just might make compromise a bit more hoped for). I don't go out my front door during lilac season because my neighbors have trees. I seem to be more okay in the back, so that's how I manage.
Did she get her allergy diagnosis from WebMD? Sheesh! What a piece of work. Definitely involve the cops. Saw further down where she was also caught looking in the homes windows. I don't think that it's out of the realm of possibility for her to try to break in at some point in the future.
file charges against her..repeat when she does it again. don't give up your freedom because she says she is allergic. Not your problem.
I'm allergic to god knows how many different plants, pollens, etc, and I live in the suburbs. There's this magical thing you can buy called allergy meds you don't even need a prescription for!! UGH. I could be walking my dog and any number of things trigger my awful allergies.
If you are allergic to something, don't move near someone who grows that stuff infront of thier house. She should move out, she shouldn't even have moved it.
Wth does "can't trust her doctors with her diagnosis? even mean?! Sounds like a mental disorder to me! NTA The new neighbor is though. NTA even if she does call the police- which she should.
This is a no-brainer, not sure why AITA is even being asked here. Reminds me of the other post about the obese woman complaining that the world owes it to her to make everything more comfortable for her though. Both are entitled and wrong.
When I read this it seemed obvious, that the neigbour's allergy is to not getting her own way, or psycosomatic.
I have severe asthma and allergies. I keep all my windows shut year round, moved across the country to go to a desert so I could get away from pollen as much as possible, and monitor the areas I'm in for any potential allergens. The only time I have ever required anyone to follow things related to my asthma is to not wear/spray perfume in my living area (bedroom when I was with my parents, house now that I'm moved out) and I have asked my coworkers not to spray air fresheners on my assigned hall and at the nurses station when I am working so I can work safely.
So I see a lot of comments about roses being none allergenic. I can tell you this: Valentine's day is not a happy day for me if we go to a restaurant and someone is walking around selling roses. I am allergic to roses - anaphylactic kind of allergy, proved it, and got it checked out too. It's possible to be allergic to them but the OP is absolutely NTA here, her new neighbor is. And I also don't think she's allergic because even with a mask, you'd get the allergen making a pass at you.
"can't trust doctors with her diagnosis" = she is lunatic and therefore they won't take her seriously. If she can manage to molest those plants, being near to them obviously cannot be a matter of life and death, and in case it is, she ought to have done her homework before deciding where to live. It is like people buying a house right next to the airport, and then complaining about the noise level. Yeah there was a reason why that house was so cheap, you cannot have it all, and have everbody make major sacrifices for your benefit.
Your neighbor sounds like a head case. If she doesn't trust a doctor with her diagnosis, she probably doesn't even have a diagnosis! She needs to get tested to determine what she is allergic to - my doctor told me I'm allergic to pollen. Can't very well get rid of all pollen! She might not be allergic to roses, especially if she's out there cutting them herself. In any case, there's plenty of antihistamine medicines and allergy therapies she can use.
How to be an asset hole 2.0 she should go to live to a dessert or the Antarctica, we need nature, no the other way. Makes me angry the time the "kind" and "friendly" neighbors of my parents chopped their garden without asking because "it attracted flies" my parents have complaints about that but the people incharge ignore it :-|
I find it interesting that she took it upon herself to handle the roses she is so certain will cause her harm.
Worst case, the neighbor's anti-rose obsession is only the tip of her dysfunctional iceberg. She has shown that she is obsessive, even to the point of making stuff up. She is inclined to violence--so far only to plants, but I'd sure keep my pets away from this woman. You might need to look into a restraining order.
I know I am not playing nice neighbor but I would go to the nursery and buy as many freakin roses as I could afford. Darn near every square inch of my yard covered with roses with the exception of about three feet from her side of the fence.
Allergic or not she has no damned entitlement to move in and demand what somebody else does with their home and hearth. She should get rose oil and spray down her entire effing house and car. If she came on my property after the first cop call, she gets self defensed to death
Okay, to everyone saying "how could she get close to them if she's allergic," not all allergies are life-threatening; I don't die from my soy allergy, I just get open sores and nasty stuffed up. THAT SAID, this neighbor is clearly a bully and a plague. Don't buy a house right next to your allergen, IDIOT. Not like rise bushes aren't pretty distinctive, after all!
Honestly, the OP is in the wrong here. She clearly isn't actually allergic; she just wanted the roses gone for some reason. But even if she was allergic, it really isn't her neighbor's problem, and she would have to just live with it
I think you’re mixing them up. OP is the house owner with the roses. Crazy neighbor is the “allergic” one who trespassed and cut the roses. So your opinion actually sides with OP as NTA.
