Or, if you speak one more language, you can say "sure, sorry" and keep on speaking in that other language which is neither Spanish nor English. ♥

Seriously! I live in LA and this was Spanish speaking territory until we stole it under the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hildalgo. (Of course the Spanish did steal it from the Chumash and Tongva). So whenever my father-in-law, who moved in with us last year, complains about everybody here speaking Spanish, I remind of that fact, offer to sign him up for Spanish classes and then spend the rest of the afternoon speaking to him in Spanish.

I so understand you! Dutch is my third language out of eight. Idiots can be found everywhere and a certain orange billionaire pedophile president made racism and fascism popular among bigots everywhere. At my job, it's very important to speak the official Belgian Dutch language properly. Sadly, the natives ask me how to spell and write correctly in their own language. Their excuse is: we only talked in dialect at home. So, with knowing only their local dialect, they think they can laugh at people who try their best to learn another language.... You know what I mean... We can only stay positive and hope for the best and still believe in good people! Stay strong and stay yourself!

Flemish and french belgians have problems to accept the language of the other half of the country, so how coud you accept that they would accept a foreign one :-)?

I'm Dutch and live in Belgium. Theres always people who think I should use Flemish words because "this is Flanders" and theres people who are insulted when i say Flemish words with my (still heavy) Dutch "accent" because they think I make fun of them. Some people just always find stuff to b***h about. Lots of people switch from dialect or Flemish to Dutch tough, when they hear me speak, and thats super cute (and not necesary)

It's very unusual in Belgium... The whole frustration of trying to learn Dutch/Flemish is that EVERYONE insists on speaking (unidiomatic) English with you; completely opposite of say France. Everywhere. Even when you ask. Kids teacher kept saying "ah it's so nice to exercise my English"!? But yeah, idiots everywhere and some places more than others.

Tell your dog trainer we speak to our dogs in Mandarin, Tayal, and English. Our dogs wouldn't lustyif we spoke Flemish.
