That is not how countries work. In Uk names go first so legally she cannot have her surname first. You are also assuming that she is a first generation immigrant, which is absurd since asian people have lived in UK for a very long time now.

nah when they translate from chinese to english the last name goes as their last name. for example: with my name. in english, it's James (Last name), but in chinese 谢世杰, 谢 is my last name and 杰 is my first name. Basically, the order is changed according to where the first and last name go

It's not stereotypical. Not until idiots like you and the one making that initial comment actually say it is. Why can't things just be as they are. Without others pointing out stereotypical, and/or racial characteristics within something. Why point out the Chinese girls name as stereo typical. Why not names like john, bob, jasmin, Amanda, Nancy, Joe, Arnold, etc. this list can go on. Why not say those are stereotypical names when used? Bottom line is, your comment and the initial comment here, shows that you have racist characteristics.

Point is, they spelled her name the English way, instead of the Chinese way. Cho . . . that's not even a word in Chinese. You could have Cao, Chao, Cuo, Cha, Chun, Cuo, Que, Qiu or something like that and any of those words could be for the character. Those 8 sounds alone could total up to any of 32 characters for her first name. If it means "autumn" it would be "qiu tian". Don't know where the Chang part came from, but the Qiu might be ok as Cho . . . but that's still way off. Chang can mean long, sing, often, flourish, proper, sunlight . . . etc. Flourish and proper fit with Cho Chang, but I don't know where the rest go. She never sings, isn't long (not that I know of . . . but anyways . . .) and often . . . well, that doesn't make sense. I am of Chinese heritage and racism is one of the things that I hate the most. No, Cho Chang's name isn't a racist thing, but it isn't correct either.

But one hardly ever refer an indian as asian, eventhough it would be correct to say so. One usually says for instance: "Ravi? Oh... he's indian", it's not like one would say "Ravi? Oh... he's asian".

Logical point but usually referring to them by their specific nationality is a lot different than not knowing Indians are Asian. Wtf continent do they think they are from?
