We often hear about things that aged like milk and turned sour, to say the least. Think of statements like “Man won’t fly for a million years,” made by The New York Times in 1903 just a few days before the Wright Brothers invented the first plane, or Google advertising itself as “a pure search engine with no links to sponsors, no news feed, no portal litter, no ads, and no weather” in 1999. Read on for more disastrously wrong examples of things that turned sour in our previous post right here.
But this time we’re looking at the opposite examples that stood strong against the test of time and proved they were 100% right. Thanks to the miscellaneous corner of Reddit r/AgedLikeWine, we have some brilliant posts ready below.

Damn He Called It
Hundreds of love letters between two gay WWII soldiers were discovered and sold to a museum. One of them said, "Wouldn't it be wonderful if all our letters could be published in the future in a more enlightened time. Then all the world could see how in love we are." They are now being made into a book.
We Haven't Matured In A Century
We're not great at learning from history. Once the people who experienced it the last time are all dead, it's time for a new round.
Load More Replies...History is destined to repeat itself, as collectively people are stupid. Frankly, it is amazing that we haven't wiped ourselves out already!
Kind of blows up the social media misinformation paradigm in a different post.
Oh how I wish we were still this humble as a society. Bloody shameful selfish conduct these days by brats whining about their "personal freedoms" being encroached upon. Less than 100 years ago people would do everything as a community to help each other out. Whether it be grow vegetables, cook, mind/feed vulnerable others, keep the house dark to hide the target, fight the enemy etc. Nowadays people want to stake a claim of the histroy of injustice just so they can avoid having a needle, or wearing a mask. Pathetic.
This went south when police shot and killed someone not wearing a mask and later, the elected of a certain city were all seen at a boxing match, not applying any of these tips. And then it all just stopped and people lived on to tell the history.
And the anti-maskers claim it’s Unconstitutional—that claim didn’t work then, either.
Don't forget we are just animals. Civilisation and technology levels are increasing way way faster than we can evolve so we'll just end up being generally stupid compared to how we COULD be.
Not that they have learned so little, but that they have forgotten so much...
Sorry, I can't seem to understand what you're trying to say... All I hear are catch phrases and in-words.
Load More Replies...I think you are mistaking contradiction for the actual scientific method. Basically what happened was you saw the process of science unfolding so much more quickly than ever. There were literally a whole range of specialists around the world working 24 hours a day to try to get a handle on this. As a novel virus it meant that we initially had to treat it to similar viruses until more was discovered. Those new discoveries came almost daily and from all over the world even the research world was finding it hard to keep up with the way in which this virus operated. Then as the virus mutated (specifically the delta strain became transmittable via air) which can often create even more confusion as the mutation may have a few, none or all symptoms in common with the initial strain. No one was deliberately feeding misinformation or contradictions, they were simply providing you with the lay version of what was happening and advising the best known ways to avoid infection.

Some things never change for me. The fear of spiders, my love for coke zero, and my distaste for raisins. Do whatever - hide them in a sponge cake, try persuading me they’re the same as grapes, now as an adult, I have come to terms that there’s close to 0 chance I’ll start eating them.
Just like my personal preferences, many other things have stood the test of time and proved to be relevant to this day. A great example is books. Since their invention in the 1450s, books have been filling up the shelves of our homes with stories of adventure and exploration. Think of the classics like In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust and Ulysses by James Joyce, they still keep captivating our imagination more than a hundred years later.

This Was Supposed To Aged Like Milk, Sadly It Didn't
Some books not only stood the test of time, they actually proved to be even more valuable today than they initially were. Take the first edition of William Faulkner’s The Marble Faun, for example, which is now on sale for $125,000. The seller Peter L. Stern & Co. presents the book as the “First Edition of the author’s first book. Original paper-covered boards with spine and cover labels; about fine in the rare dust jacket with tiny chips at the extremities and only very minor wear; in a custom cloth slipcase.”

I Love It When A Plan Comes Together
Moreover, first editions that include personal dedications, signatures, customizations, and other rare artifacts can even double the price. Condition is another key factor that influences book value. A beat-up old book that is falling apart will have little value. Scarcity also influences value. For example, for hardcover books published from the 20th century onwards, the presence of a dust jacket and its condition also greatly affect value.

Guy Beats Cancer
I hate it when people say this. I've beaten cancer! Like it was something you did which made you "win" against the disease. It implies that people like my wife, who died on 8th September 2021 (yes, a couple of weeks ago) aged 60 somehow failed to fight hard enough. It's not a fight, certainly not one that YOU can "win" and then claim some kind of credit for. I miss her horribly and was there at the end. I know that anything she could have done to "fight" it , she did. Daniel was lucky to have developed a form that his doctors could treat, and certainly deserves no credit for the end result. I'm grateful for all you Pandas though, you keep me smiling. RIP Julie (1960-2021) the love of my life.

This one just makes me sad, because there are people being murdered right now for working with the American military and we did not keep our promises. Again.

Never have I ever read a post on boredpanda with so many racists, homophobes, conspiracy theorists, Covid deniers and all round idiots in the comment sections. Two years ago, they weren't as many as these. I predict that in the nearest future, bored panda would be filled with more shitty people like these.
