Welcome to the New Face of the African Artscene.

The phenomenon “Afrorenaissance” is a movement started by a collective of artists who, having seen the state of African art, soutght to use their art to change the African Narrative by exploring long disputed topics such as Afrofuturism, History, astronomy, Metaphysics and Self awareness.

Using this platform, we organised our first gallery show at British Intitute of East Africa, Nairobi. Here we were confronted by a problem of presenting our work, the relation between art and the Audience, and the Big Question; ‘What is Art, especially African Art?’ not to mention the resulting stereotypes that arise from such inquiry, despite the mountains of evidence that points to Africa’s glorious past, a past long forgotten and more or less assumed by those considered as heretics.

This is what inspired the book ‘Afrorenaissance Vol. 1’, authored by artists Sogallo and Native Nairobi, an Art book that contains the Art, Poetry as well as the philosophies based on the Art. it’s really a way of not only sharing our art to the world, but also to give art a purpose to society. as a people, we need art in our lives, for art is like a multifaceted map, a guide into a way of life, an interpretation of what goes on in the human psyche, a visual language that is deeply understood by people in their own unique perspective, and most of all, opportunity for imagination.

Therefore we collaborated with poets, performers and live artists to bring the art to the people. They got to watch the Artistic process, take part in the poetry performances and even own some of the pieces.

This is just the beginning of a turn-around, where art regains its power and the society regains its art.
