Over the years, we at Bored Panda have released quite a few pieces on subpar design. And while these publications are incredibly fun to prepare and scroll through (just take a look at this one), we need to balance them out a little. After all, not every designer is an incompetent 3-year-old. Some of them are 4... light-years ahead of the competition.

There's a subreddit that features high-quality images of interesting designs, including architectural, graphic, industrial, furniture, and product design, and even though we already covered it once, there are so many gems on it, we need to do a follow-up. From a restaurant half-sunken into the sea to a suitcase that can measure its own weight, continue scrolling and check out the best that human ingenuity has to offer.

We, regular users, usually see just the finished product. But there's so much more that goes into actually creating them. To learn more about design, we contacted Nicole Phillips, who has been working in the design industry since 2005 and has a background in fine arts and advertising. Phillips specializes in logo design, branding, and package design for food & beverage, beauty, health, and interior design clients, and for each project, her work is unique and never linear.

"The design process requires research, experimentation, and even a bit of psychology," Phillips told Bored Panda. "When I feel frustrated with the process, I remind myself to take a step back, have fun and play. It's those moments of play and experimentation that usually create the best results, but it's those hours of research that help build the foundation for the final result."

"My clients are not paying me for my time, they are paying me for my many years of experience, so if I am able to complete the design process in 5 hours rather than 5 weeks, this is a sign of my years of experience and knowledge, this is valuable," she added.

Trying to determine whether or not a particular design is good, many turn to Dieter Rams and his '10 commandments.' According to Rams, good design is innovative, makes a product useful, is aesthetic, makes a product understandable, is unobtrusive, is honest, is long-lasting, is thorough down to the last detail, is environmentally friendly, and involves as little design as possible.

Nicole Phillips agrees with the German design legend.

"Good design includes a good balance of function, form, and fun," Phillips said. "The user shouldn't have to try too hard to get what they need from the design. Good design isn't just aesthetics, it should communicate well and push boundaries a bit. Good design solves problems."

To paraphrase Don Draper from Mad Men, it's simple but significant.

This is a great idea - and Kelvinator (I think) did something similar in the 1950s. The problem is that it takes up a HUGE amount of space in the kitchen. The doors need so much space that it's not very practical.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a secularist, but when in the history of humanity has religion NOT mixed with politics? I mean, in any case where a particular person or group has too much control (including in a "winner take all" two-party system) there are noticable problems with governance. Notably, attempting to eliminate religion has a very similar result to allowing it to control decision making. I'm not suggesting we need religion, but we need governance that isn't set on eliminating opposing ideas, and we need to acknowledge that humans who misuse religion or political power aren't doing so because of the religion or their political ideas, but because they pathologically crave power without really understanding it.

I am a Muslim woman who wears niqab with my own will. My husband doesn’t like niqab but since I want to wear, he doesn’t force me to remove. This my right. I dont want to swim in swim in public pool but I can swim in ladies only pool and it’s awesome since no men is there to judge your figure and stare at you. I can ride bike if I want but I don’t want to. I wear skirts, tops, pants and what not under my outer clothing but I don’t want filthy men to look at me with list so I cover. I have every right to divorce my husband and for women they just have to divorce once and they separate while to separate from wife a man is required to divorce thrice with a gap of 3 months in each divorce because women suffer more if they are divorced and Allah doesn’t want them to. We can vote and infact Islam is the first organisation/religion to give right to women to vote/give their opinion/ asked before marriage. Read history how women were treated just 40 years back in America and Europe.

Wow. Sad. Sad to see logic and then strict interpretations of their beliefs when it doesn’t crush the economy. Pick and choose what is loosely interpreted? That in itself holds little logic. Wouldn’t that make people realize other rules can bend too and start a flow of rights. It doesn’t bc oppression is a huge part of control.

If you go back a few decades, you would realise that in dressing alone, society has a whole has deteriorated to point of no return. To protects one's body from evil glances isn't a bad thing. Problem is that western society has brainwashed the world into believing the world should folliw its ideals. And come to think of it, which regions on earth have the most sex offenders? Case n point. This blows my mind. I hate how women were thought as less than men and are still to this day in some countries. Women literally brought men into the world, with the help of a man but still they carried them birthed them. I presume the majority of them have mother's, so what gives them the right to tell them what to do. I swear no woman in my family or any woman I know myself included would put up with that. Like hell am I walking ten steps behind a man.

It was heaven on the face of earth. Almost zero crime rate because of strict laws. And women are more than happy in Muslim countries where they cover their face from those who they don’t want their beauty to reveal and are more satisfied that even their husbands are not able to see other women. Women could travel and shop and there was nothing to worry. They had beautiful lives but now that Saudia is changing the crime rate is going up. Women were never groped and were always respected but now there have been instances of groping and following. Though the government has loosen their veil law and they are allowed to wear anything but most women still want to carry their veils as it’s not a burden but a protection. Islam loves women so much that their inheritance is kept in law written in the holy book Quran. Women gets inheritance by her father and by her husband. Our prophet called the women glass vessels and instructed men to handle them with care and Muslim men are certainly better.
