I Finally Decided To Reconnect With My Biological Family

Back in 1976 I was adopted from Seoul, South Korea to an amazing family in Oklahoma. I was loved very much and I even had a new adopted sister. I never really thought much, except the occasional “I wonder where my parents are now?”

Just over 1 year ago, I decided to find my biological family. Then it happened. A letter and photos arrived. I had siblings – 1 brother and 5 sisters who were still wondering where I was. Unfortunately, my biological parents have passed away.

My mother’s last wish was to find me, but to my families dismay the adoption was closed and they didn’t have any information of where I was. This was just one of the many reasons they were so excited when my first letter arrived. They all wanted to meet me, and coincidentally my youngest sibling was coming to Los Angeles this year. So we coordinated through emails and set up a time. It was amazing speaking to her through a translator and finding more about my past. The feelings I had and still have are continually changing and developing for this new family that in a way, came out of nowhere. I hope to visit the rest of the family next year and hope that this good story will inspire others to search as well.

Being adopted myself...and searching for over 30 years I finally connected with my birthmother and two half brothers...I look just like my mom...It is not the fact we don't love our adopted family..it is that nagging thing that asks "Who am I" who are my people...who do I look like...what dos my family do...do they think of me..Millions of questions...I can not explain the feeling of first meeting my mother and seeing my face reflect in hers...She passed away last year but I had three awesome years knowing her..birth father had passed many years ago..I know your feeling and am glad you shared your experience.

I'm with you on that one. Met my biological father last year, but my biological mother passed away in 2004. I do, however, have half-siblings from both of them and I get to at least see what my birth mother looked like in the face of my lovely new half-sister Christine. Also, agreed on the need to find out - who wouldn't be inquisitive? It's such a huge mystery!

This is beautiful. My husband and I are looking to adopt too. You are blessed with two wonderful families and I know there will be some times when things are highly emotional, but its nothing you cant handle. God Bless you all.

Am I the only one who feels that the adoptive mother looked like Taylor Swift when she was younger? Anyway, this is such a beautiful story. I can't help but comment on how lucky you are to have two loving families who care for you so much. :)

The body language of everyone in the picture with your adoptive parents and biological siblings is pretty interesting. Your adoptive mother looks like she is leaning in towards your father. How was it when you were all together

Strength to you, brother. I think it's fantastic that you sought them out. Your feelings will continue to develop, but know that you're loved by both adoptive and biological families. Stay rad.

Congratulations! My sister was adopted at birth to another family. I searched for her and made contact. I wanted her to know that we had medical problems in the family that she should be aware of. I can understand why she chose not to stay in contact but that short time she was in my life, felt as if a hole was filled. We look so much alike. Her daughters could have been mine. My son looked like our brother. It was uncanny the family resemblance. Now, with our brother is deceased due to cancer, I just wish she was here. Enjoy both families, you are truly blessed.

I do not understand- how did the author get adopted, while his biological parents went on having 6 kids?! It doesn't seem they couldn't afford having lots of kids. Why did they give him up for adoption?

Maybe they had him when they were too young. Maybe they couldn't afford another baby when he was born, and their financial situation got better later, hence all the other kids. Whatever it was, they never forgot about him and wanted to find him, so you can assume they didn't give him up just for the fun of it.
