Rescue Dog That Never Had His Own Yard Gets A Surprise When His New Parents Build Him One
When KaTarra Taylor adopted Bentley the bloodhound, she was determined to give him everything he needed. And then some. However, the woman soon ran into quite the problem. No landlord was willing to rent to her and her new buddy. So, KaTarra decided to take matters into her own hands.
“I bought a townhouse in 2018 because no one would rent to me with a dog Bentley’s size,” she told Bored Panda, adding that the doggo was happy to move into their new home. “He loves wherever we are because I’m there as well.”
Soon, the two were joined in the house by KaTarra’s boyfriend Nick and his dog as well.
And KaTarra made up her mind to delight Bentley with another surprise.

The woman knew how much Bentley enjoys chilling in the grass. Whenever they would go for walks or to the park, she would see him laying on a cozy patch of green and really wanted him to have some of that comfort at home. So, after Nick offered a helping hand, the woman set out to transform their concrete patio into a yard her pup has never had.

Nick, who is a disabled veteran with nearly 12 years of service, did an excellent job

“My boyfriend was able to get it all done in one day for under $400”

“Bentley loves his little grassy area. We’ve even added a canvas shade for him. Nick really went above and beyond on this project”

After Bentley saw what was waiting for him outside, he immediately lay down and just stayed there for several hours. It’s definitely his new favorite spot. It should also help the bloodhound with his anxiety issues. Even though he still struggles, his mom said he’s getting better every day, and it’s easy to see why. All of the love Bentley receives has to be working wonders for him.

Share on FacebookThis boyfriend is a keeper. (Doing something for an animal "he does not like".) So glad Bentley is enjoying the grass!!!!!
What extreme steps she took for a pup that had had a difficult start. And her boyfriend 's kindness to a dog in need was so sweet.
This story definitely hit home! The dog I rescued came from a shelter where he appeared absolutely fine and chill. Had no idea he had severe separation anxiety until I had to leave and go to work. I couldn't just give him back - I made the commitment to be his dog-mom and my place is his forever home. I've had to make several modifications to my yard, personal trainers, veterinary pet behaviorist and tons of time. He's finally come around after 2.5 years. Worth it!!
Beautiful story. My old boy Labrador had never been on grass. He found it very scary under his feet. He still after 11 years (he is 12 now ) prefers to walk the concrete path than to cut across the garden to get where he goes to the toilet.
thank you for taking the time to be his hope instead of just another stop on the rebound train,
I love Bentley and your boyfriend, and well of course you! Thank you for giving him a loving family. I adopted my rescue in February, and it definitely took some time for him to trust us. I went on a vacation, and didn't want o board him at a board with crates, I was afraid he would think it was the shelter. I used this service where I could drop him off at their house, and the only time he was in his crate was when they left the house. They sent me daily pictures and videos of him. I t hink it took me dropping him off, then coming back for him so be like, "Okay wow these people really like me" He is such an amazing little pupper!
I'm so happy he wasn't hit by a car. That would have been terrible.
Great guy, you have made a huge difference, most will say to adopt, is special to both, we feel good, the new pet is thrilled, all my pets were adopted, we mad each other happy, in some cities there are far too many, cats and dogs, looking fora home and love, please adopt and save a life, they do know, they have a second chance !!!
Bentley is one lucky pup to have this wonderful family home. I have never been able to keep one of my foster dogs, but I hope they had this kind of ongoing love.
Animals and people with allergies need probiotics. The good ones from a box store will do the trick nicely. I have treated dogs, cats, and helped many people with allergies to never have them again. If nothing else, it's worth a try. I've never seen it not be successful, but there's always that first time, I guess.
Might've included hiring the concrete breaker. (Still a lot of money though)
Load More Replies...This is a wonderful story, but enough with this "parents" stuff!
I don't mean to be rude, and of course I enjoyed the story, but Bentley looks like he could use a little less table scraps 😬
And as a disabled person myown - I am sure I wouldn't be able to put up so much physical work in one day, so.... But US labels people "disabled for service" for absurd reasons, and finally most of them are not actual disabilities. This country is dumb on so many levels.
Load More Replies...Do not take a difficult rescue dog unless you are an experienced dog owner. Many of those dogs have (severe) behavioral problems and the romantic narrative of them being so happy you saved them and it all works out, just doesn't exist. There are organisations that offer rescue dogs without problems, help one of those if you are not experienced.
I understand this. Sometime people have the best intentions but lack experience and guidance in how to best help a traumatised dog, and the animal gets passed from pillar to post, getting worse as it goes along. The situation above worked out, and she didn't give the dog back even when she had to move, which is what many people do nowadays. Well done on making him family and taking the time and effort to help him.
