Roux The Adopted Two-Legged Bunny-Cat Is Instagram’s Latest Sensation
Roux, a little two-legged, incredibly cute cat adopted by Jackie Deak Akey in Louisiana, has become an Instagram celebrity (more than 54.8k followers) due to her playful and inspiring nature. Despite her congenital deformity, this one-year-old family pet hops about and loves to play just like any other cat!
Akey, who works at a veterinary clinic in New Orleans, learned of Roux (full name Lil’ Bunny Sue Roux Hendrickson Dean Akey) from an animal shelter who said that she had been surrendered to them because her deformity rendered her unable to bury her waste in her litter box. But now Roux can relax and enjoy the fame from her Instagram photos. Read on for more of her story and check the adorable cat photos!

Roux was born with two legs
She was given up because she was unable to bury her waste in her litter box
Luckily, vet clinic worker Jackie Deak Akey adopted her as soon as she saw her
She’s often called a “bunny-cat” because of her hopping
Roux with her “cousin” bunny named Kangaroo
Besides her congenital defects, she’s otherwise healthy
She’s figured out her own way of doing everything that she needs to do
Her legs get a big workout every day
She can run surprisingly fast and even jump on the sofa!
Roux will need back and leg checkups from the vet when she grows older
For now, though, there’s nothing to worry about!
Update: She just celebrated her second birthday!

Share on FacebookShe is just so gorgeous. And that video, where she hops about like a bunny.. too beautiful and heart warming to be described by mere words. :)
What's amazing to me is that someone gave her up because she couldn't cover her poop! My cat has 4 legs and she just can't do it! I'm not giving her away!
Load More Replies...I love this kitty!! We rescued a kitten that is missing one of his front legs, and he has no top eyelids. He requires extra care, but he is the absolute sweetest cat in the world! Props to the lady that gave this sweet baby girl a furever home!
this proves that pets doesn´t need to be perfect...they just need love
What a gorgeous little girl! I'm so glad she found such a loving home :)
Animals are amazing, and handicapped animals are even moreso. My sweet cat, "Roo", was born with radial hypoplasia and, while she has deformed front legs, they aren't really functional. She is the happiest animal I've ever known. She loves her life and full of love and affection for me, and her other cat friends here. Thank you Jackie Deak Akey for giving your "Roux" love and a forever home.
I know of there have been dogs that have been given prosthetic limbs. I wonder if that would be possible for this sweet girl? There's obviously a concern that she may develop spinal, or hind leg problems as she gets older.
I have heard of dogs that have been given prosthetic limbs. I wonder if there is something that could be created for this sweet girl, so she doesn't eventually develop spinal or hind leg difficulties?
This reminds me of the story of Faith the two legged dog. Goes to show that with a little love & encouragement one can overcome any of life's difficulties.
beautiful, sweet looking, honey bunny.. I would have taken her in half a heartbeat!! So cute, that little honey bunny ;-)
I have a four legged cat who refuses to bury his and I have had him 14 years. What a stupid reason to give up an animal...
What a beautiful cat! Why don't you get her these wheel-thingies, like other animals with no front legs use? Or may be this could be an option when she gets older.
Sending much love to Jackie, cause that cat has more than enough love already ;) xx
I can't fathom the heart of stone that kicked this endearing little puss out & just because she couldn't cover her waste in the litter box...? Well do it for her you hard hearted selfish people! I mean how hard would that be? And then there's the kind heart that sees only her beauty & potential & that this little kitten needed an extra special person to look after her & see to her needs. And look how she's blossomed with that kind of love lavished on her? I think the people that got rid of her did her a favour as they obviously didn't have the special qualities of unconditional love, empathy & compassion that she really needs. I thank God so much that there are people like this in the world. <3 <3 <3 :)
She could use 3d printed "hands" to help her balancing during eating/drinking or walking. She's got stumps on both of her front legs, so it could be attached to her body easily and securely. However shee seems to be happy the way she is :)

This little cat is so amazing! Even though she lost her two legs, that she can still adapt to that? That's amazing.

Awww, so adorable and I moved to tears. Thanks for being a good human (nowadays, the world is lacking humanity as also could be seen when she was given up due to her not being able to cover up her waste) and taking care of her <3
