Woman Posts Pic Of 6-Week-Old Embryo To Shame Pro-Choicers, One Of Them Responds With Scientific Facts On What Makes Us Human
After the state of Alabama passed a bill recently effectively banning abortion, this raw and ongoing debate has once again come into sharp focus in American politics. If the bill becomes law it will be the most restrictive abortion law in the U.S, and make criminals of any doctor who performs the procedure, even in cases of incest and rape.

Conservative commentator Liz Wheeler, pictured above, is a strong proponent of the law and has made it a personal mission to “expose liberal hypocrisy” when it comes to abortion. She recently tweeted the image of a six-week-old embryo alongside the words “This is “two weeks late on your period.” Two weeks late has arms & legs forming, fingers & toes, & a heartbeat!”
Wheeler’s tweet was in response to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who referred to another controversial case, Georgia’s “heartbeat bill,” when saying that “6 weeks pregnant” could equal just “2 weeks late on your period.”

Wheeler clearly wanted to demonstrate the advanced development of the embryo, highlighting its already familiar human features to invoke a sense of ‘murder’ by terminating an embryo at this stage. Twitter user Emily M wasn’t having it, however, and replied with a reasoning more in line with accepted scientific findings.

Other people quickly joined in, giving their own opinions on this most controversial and divisive topic, one that has settled firmly along partisan lines. Sadly, it seems that much of the rational discussion has disappeared from this debate, with Republicans overwhelmingly anti-abortion and Democrats strongly pro-choice. The result is both sides shouting at each other, with little calm, evidence-based logic emerging. Because of the heavy involvement of religious belief, as well as the definition of ‘life’ and when it begins being so subjective, it is sure to remain this way for some time to come.

I mean, by the logic of "They have the potential to become a human" masturbation and periods are mass murder since we're "murdering" hundreds of sperm and eggs
Well periods aren't by choice exactly but yes "potential to become human" should not be something we focus on.

At six weeks, there is no heart, no 'heart beat'...there IS 'fetal pole cardiac activity'...described as 'electrical activity in the fetal pole that runs along the yolk sac. ...' Science is your friend.
Why is it more important for an embryo that has not even developed a brain let alone brain function live, then a fully developed person who has a heartbeat but without brain function? Almost no one argues for them not to be removed from a life support machine due to cost and poor quality of life for those involved. Women and young girls are not simply life support equipment. They are the only ones to take the full and unavoidable brunt of a physical, mental and life altering situation. Birth control fails and is not available to everyone with functioning overies. A female does nor have to be a consenting, mentally and physically a mature capable adult to be fertilized. Through the millennia, how many women, girls, infants and children suffered a tormented if not drastically shortened life due to an unwilling and unwanted pregnancy.? Why do they count less then an embryo that is less self aware then a shrimp?

If you aren't going to care about the child once it's born, why do you care about it before?
Not to be rude @RJ but you sound like you're projecting. If I knew my neighbors were abusing their child, I might not take care of the child myself but I would absolutely get CPS involved, and I'm not even sure how this issue relates to the topic at hand. Regardless of the reason behind an abortion, it's none of your business unless it's your abortion, and no one should be shamed for it, whatever the reason.

Why don't the forced-birth people put their money into transplanting fetuses? That would seem to be a win-win. We already have test tube babies - with enough money, I'm sure we could make this possible.
That wouldn’t completely solve the issue. It would essentially be another form of adoption. Most people are uncomfortable with the idea of someone else raising their biological child. The option of embryo donation already exists for extra embryos created from IVF, but most people would rather have them destroyed than let another couple use them.

Decisions about medical procedures should be made by the patient with medical advice and, when applicable, family consultation. These decisions should absolutely not be made by politicians or the government. Don't forget that giving the government the right to force births implies the right to forcibly abort.
One person said that an embryo has a heartbeat after 18 days in the womb. One thing they didn't realize is this: having a heartbeat does not mean something is living. Shocking the heart can cause it to contract - but if a person is brain-dead, that heartbeat doesn't mean they are alive. If an embryo doesn't even form a brain until 14 weeks, then their humanity cannot be debated until then.
Yep. I've seen a frog heart, completely detached from the frog, beating in a tray.

Anti-choice people are hypocrites when they fight like hell to protect embryos but don't give a rat's buns about children who have already been born. Also, they vigorously - and brainlessly - oppose measures that have been proven to reduce abortions, such as comprehensive sex education and better access to birth control. Abstinence-only sex education is an oxymoron. Horny teens are going to figure out "how to do it" no matter how we try to shelter them from reality, and all the better if they use condoms and have access to "Plan B."
A friend of mine was hospitalized recently for an ectopic pregnancy that threatened her life. It was definitely past the two week mark. This bill would have forced her to keep carrying it, even though it wasn't viable and - again - THREATENED HER LIFE. She has two small children already. One is a couple years old, the other is less than one year. These bills would rather have her die for an un-developed lump of flesh than have the fetus removed so she could go home safely to her two children already living, breathing, and developing personalities as human beings.

This is so wrong about a lot of things... First, it isn't primarily relevant if it is human or not - the question is to be put a lot earlier: Can it feel anything? Unique genetically code ... so? What's that important for just for itself? Nothing! It isn't something making something worth being protected from anything. It can't feel anything - end of story. Heartbeat, legs, arms, a vagina or certain bones are just bones... But, just taking the human-semiargument serious for a moment: Isn't a fully developed cow war more human than an early embryo? None of the pro-life-preachers (who preach unquestioned all the time) seems to care about anything, unless it is a potential human with no ability to feel. Once you develop further, belong to another species or, like, try to immigrate or refuse religion, being the most precious thing on this god's own planet isn't worth anything anymore. Double standards, taylored to the needs - feeling morally superior without any obligations or efforts
I seriously thought this would be a joke about the Alien creature from Alien2 - It sure hell looks like it could turn out to be a monster exploding through your chests !!!
Being told, if you don't want to get pregnant, buy condoms, is about as pointless as a screen door on a submarine! I've since divorced the *&%#, but, my ex forced himself on me, while drunk, with condoms in the bedside table. He was a big guy and could be quite violent when irritated. I had just had a baby, 3 months prior. I had c-sections as I was just too small. Four months after number 2 was born, I got pregnant, again. Nine months of constant worry, with being told to get to the ER FAST if you even THINK you are in labor, almost did me in! After the baby, I filed for divorce! So much for the condoms.
"After the baby, I filed for divorce!". Which baby? If you mean more than #1 then I'm sorry but it's on you. Yeah it can be super scary and hard to leave a man, but you owed it to kid #1 to not have #2 and #3.
Load More Replies...i'm pro choice and all that but kids that come out not fully formed, is she saying they aren't human? kids missing limbs at birth, not human?
One of my biggest problems with the anti-choice crowd is the use of language. It's never an embryo or fetus, it's an "unborn baby" or even more ridiculous a "child." Such language is perfect for misleading and manipulating the feeble-minded.
People in comas still have measurable brain activity and the possibility of recovery. People who are brain dead, on the other hand, are often considered legally dead. With brain death, it doesn't matter if you have a heartbeat and perfectly functioning organs. You will never recover, and the person that was in the body is no longer there. So no, people in comas aren't "aborted", but people with brain death very often are taken off of life support because, frankly, the person is no longer there.

Load More Replies...This is an important issue. What would you talk about if you didn't get to control what people do to your body anymore? You would never say that if abortion laws affected your safety, health, and your rights as a human being.

Load More Replies...Not having brain activity is a way of identifying that there is no life. When a person is brain dead, they turn off the machines. If a fetus doesn't have a brain yet, there is no life. Therefore no life is being taken.
