I'm a French artist, and my name is Dimitri "Jahz Design." I graduated as a graphic designer. I have always been interested in history and architectural remains. It was in 2013 when I developed my interest in the photography of heritage in disuse. My first exploration was an ancient cemetery of military ships.

I travel the globe looking for places in decline. Today, I want to share with you the most beautiful abandoned places around the world.

Also, check out my posts about the most beautiful abandoned castles, Georgian Soviet-era spas, European abandoned theaters, and lastly my most beautiful abandoned places around the world.

Did the Soviets build the better space shuttle..? Yes they did! Don´t let the superficial resemblance fool you, given the same engineering problem with the technology at hand most designs will look similar. But the Buran was a next step in shuttles. It is interesting to speculate that if the Soviet union had not collapsed therefore pulling the rug from under the Buran´s feet, the Russians would have had an advanced spacecraft with capabilities way ahead of the American version of the shuttle. Sadly in the end the shuttle concept has proven to be a dead end. The betamax of spaceships.

The detail in the dome looks as though there are tiny doorways all around it...such a beautiful haunting place with many stories to tell I'm sure!

It reminds me of the scene near the end of *Close Encounters of the Third Kind* where when Truffaut gets on the ship

Imagine singing anywhere here. It would sound so hauntingly beautiful. Call me sentimental, but I imagine you could almost hear the songs and laughter from so many years ago

Probably early 20s or possibly late teens. I worked in an old movie theater in San Francisco that had seats like that in the highest part of the balcony—they were the only original seats left. After the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, the downstairs seats and the ones in the lower balcony were all replaced since the theater had to be closed for awhile anyway, and the new ones were a tiny bit wider, so seating capacity changed by a hundred seats or so. At the same time the owners finally installed an ADA-compliant restroom by shrinking the waiting area in the women’s loo.

It’s so beautiful—I love that it looks like it’s made from metal rusted to varying degrees rather than the more prosaic rust-covered concrete.
