Woman Quit Her Job To Knit Sweaters For Cold Abandoned Greyhounds

Jan Brown, a 52-year-old mom in Seaburn, UK, has been knitting beautiful and adorable sweaters for greyhounds and whippets since 2008. This holiday season, she has created some cute Christmas versions of her sweaters as well!

Brown began by knitting the sweaters for abandoned greyhounds at the Greyhound Rescue Northeast shelter in Tyne & Wear. She eventually quit her job to knit greyhound sweaters, and the profits from her business (Knitted With Love) help support shelters across the UK.

Jan Brown has knitted over 300 sweaters for greyhounds

“I can’t think of anything I would rather do than knit woolly clothing for dogs,” she told the Metro

“I have spent over 4,000 hours knitting but it’s all worthwhile when I see them sporting their new jumpers and hats”

“It’s really sweet seeing them in their festive Christmas jumpers and it’s giving much needed help to the rescue centres”

“Greyhounds have very thin fur so they really feel the cold during the winter so my gifts help keep them warm during walks”

“There are so many dogs that won’t be rehomed this Christmas so for many of them it’s the only gift they will get”

Probably not. If everyone made their own, no one would buy hers and she'd lose a lot of money.

This is a great thing to do for all these poor animals. I am so very proud of what you have done. This truly is the Christmas spirit. But how do you pay for so much wool?

I am so proud to think of this woman from the country I was born and grew up in did such a wonderful thing. We English people love all animals. We just about all know how to knit. My mom used to knit all of her 10 children,s clothes. She could knit anything. Miss her so much.

We English people love all animals Margaret Wiltshire?? I suppose that is why the dogs homes are bursting at the seems and the RSPCA has never been so busy and seen such cruelty!

Is there possibly a crochet pattern to be had? Would love to do this, but, I don't knit.

Do you assume all people who do nice things for abandoned animals are having "mental breakdowns"?

are we supposed to assume that a dogs belly never gets cold? dog clothing comes with leg holes for a reason, because it actually covers the dog like a shirt not a table top doilie

Better than not clothing them at all. What are you doing for abandoned pets?

I guess animals don't need any kind of sweaters... they are "animals"! Why some people think that animals are human too? Just LOVE and take good and responsible care of them
