Some People Left Their Dogs Tied Up To Die In The Flood And It Will Break Your Heart
2.5Mviews
Houston, Texas, is currently experiencing catastrophic levels of flooding due to the torrential rains being dumped in the region by tropical storm Harvey. Five people have been reported dead so far, many more are injured, and thousands have been displaced. But as people flee to save themselves, many are forgetting to take their animals with them, and as you can see from these heartbreaking pictures, dogs are being left behind to fend for themselves in what might be the worst flood in the history of Houston.
Despite Texan officials repeatedly warning people about leaving their pets and livestock behind, one dog was spotted holding onto a road barrier while a river of rain threatened to carry it away, while others have been seen chained up to trees and telephone poles in areas that have seen as much as 10 inches of rainfall in just 24 hours.
“I promise you, that I will hold anyone accountable that unlawfully restrains their dog in extreme weather conditions,” said Chief Stephen Carlisle in Roman Forest, about 40 miles north of Houston. “Dogs are your family members too.” We couldn’t agree more. Our hearts go out to the people and pets who are currently affected by tropical storm Harvey. (h/t)

The dog chained to the tree was rescued by the photographer.
I was actually wondering. Good to know.
Yea he wouldn't just take a picture and leave him there
Oops. I do apologize. I misspoke when I said tree. I had meant to reference the dog tied to the pole. It was actually a Daily Mail photographer who saved it. Small payback for all the times they've used Bored Panda submissions on their site!
Ok what about the other dog though? Tied to the telephone pole? I need to know
if someone was near enough to take a picture, they better have rescued the damn animals...
The dog in the first pic was saved too.
Thank god, that it was rescued
Believe he is planning to adopt the dog if the owners are not found.
Personally, i don't think the owners deserve to have the dog back. They purposely tied the dog to something (tree or pole dog, doesn't matter) and left it there. They look so defeated and abandoned.
good.....if I was the reporter I could of not walked away... and yes children are important but......so are pets....they give us all their love even when they aren't treated right. All they want is love and good food and water. and someone to care for them.
Thanks for letting us know, I know I was really wondering what had happened to him.
I would love to take that little gal or guy in. Too cute! Who would do this I couldn't even imagine.
Thanks for that info.
Were both chained dogs rescued?
What about the one tied to the telephone pole (the first picture)? Does anyone know if it was rescued? Hopefully no one would have taken his picture then left him.
The original poster misspoke. The dog tied to the telephone pole was rescued by the photographer. I don't know about the dog tied to the tree but am guessing anyone that took the time to photograph probably freed it.
Thank you! I was hoping it was.
I also saw this picture earlier and was worried about the dog I am glad that the dog was rescued.
Its for the first photo right? Poor pup.. glad to know its okay..
I was wondering too. But what about the second dog chained to a tree. Was that one rescued too?
I'm so happy that I read your comment ...it's really heartbreaking!
Thank you for letting us know, have been worrying about that pup!!!
I'm glad you let us know, I was worried they got left behind (again) by people in boats.
The dog by the trailer was photographed by same photographer, any answers on that one?
Thank you.
The two dogs are in the same yard I watched a video and the photographer unleashed them and put them back in their yard but the house is empty, water receded and they are in a fenced yard, hes feeding them daily and cat included and another animal I think a hamster or bunny, he reported them to the humane society, he wants to adopt the one dog he calls Lucky if no one claims him. They are all safe and eating!!
"People" did not leave their dogs behind. Monsters did.
Exactly! No one in their right mind, or heart, would do that. I can't even fathom leaving a life I'm responsible for behind to die (possible or not).
I would never leave my piglet behind.never..
Well these days it seems that "people" aren't too far from what we know as monsters
Best description. Monsters.

I love how we are presuming all these dogs had owners capable of rescuing them, rather than being stranded on a rooftop or stuck clear across town, unable to get a clean pair of socks, let alone rescue pets.
If they had the time to tie a dog to a tree, they have the time to bring a dog with them.
And I LOVE how you assume they couldn't free the animal. They had DAYS of warning....DAYS. I lived in Houston and people who live there KNOW it floods all the time with just a few inches of rain. Should we give you a year's notice so you can try to figure it out?! WOW!!
The very thought that people would run off and forget their four-legged children is beyond appalling. They should be brought before a magistrate and heavily fined, along with a prohibition of ever having another one again,.....EVER! This is beyond the pale. I would never even think of doing such a thing. 😱 😡 😡
Now this is a Caring Parent, and all those like her should be praised. Houston-Fl...a72ea8.jpg
They seemed to not only neglect the dogs, but deliberately chained them up! If they didn't, those dogs would've had a chance to escape before people found them
Heartwarming picture, that's exactly what good owners would do: keeping their buddies safe at any cost.
Doggie is in plastic bag while the woman is all wet. This is what I call love
Susan Davis, as a Texan, yes I understand if they don't have room on the boats for pets, however, when you go to the extent of tying or chaining them so they can't escape the water, you have sentenced them to death. No excuse for it.
@Susan Davis: I'm essentially a coward, so I always try to refrain from judging situations I sincerely hope I won't experience, ever. I had some floods in my city, nothing even remotely comparable to what's happening in Texas right now, but I know the fear of rising waters and of utter helplessness (is this even a word? I'm sorry, I think I just made it up) when you watch weather reports and know that it's going to happen, no matter what. I'm just saying I at least wouldn't have left my beloved dog tied to a pole (I'm a coward, I already said that, so I won't lie and say I'd rather die, I don't know that and hope I'll never be in the position to find out), because doing so would basically mean I'd kill him in a horrible way. If I had to leave him behind, I'd at least leave him a hope of surviving.
I saw pictures on Facebook of a pregnate woman who made sure to evacuate her guinea pigs before agreeing to leave.
Now she is a good dog mama. In a flood my children and pets would come first.
For sure what aa wounderful momma
Bless her and all who rescue the helpless and the hopeless.
Awww that's a little wire haired dachshund, so cute.

Yes and maybe the other with the big dog had to be rescued and they said family only so what would you choose. Please don't judge when your high and dry and do not know the situation.I would die with my yorkies but i will not judge people from a picture.
I agree, but what further infuriates me is that they chained the dogs up! Now what is the point of that apart from granting your furry friends a watery death?
Those 'people' are heartless monsters of flesh. You hav an animal, who loves you, not matter what or who you are, 100% loyal to you, what you cannot say about 99.9% of the people. You should admire the animals and if you leave them, it breaks my heart, What;s going on, people !!!! Have a soul
not just run off, but leave them chained, so they can't even fend for themselves?!? I don't believe in god, but if there is one, there better be a special place in hell for these vile excuses for human beings...
They should be sent to jail on a life sentence. What you just said was way to nice.
Matthew, Harris County's Sheriff (where Houston is) has already said he will prosecute the owners of these dogs to the full extent of the law.
southerners sometimes think pets are just something they own not a part of the family. Not all are like that but definitely more then up north.
Not sure where in the South you are talking about dogs not being part of the family...EVERYONE that I know that has a pet treats their's like their child!
Aruba is like that too - they let them roam free, are all outside animals, less vet visits, animals not family. But chaining them up shows a special kind of indifference.

Hey John have you ever experienced a Hurricane like this ? Do you really know what you would do. I would hope and pray i wouldn't either but i am not going to judge someone who may have chose their family and had no resources to remove their pet. As for having plenty of time to leave can you imagine the chaos had everyone tried to leave at the same time trying to get out because it was like 24 hrs before it hit that we found out how bad it was going to be and still really did not know for sure until a few hrs before it hit. Many would be caught in their cars and the death toll would be many many more than now. Millions live in the Houston area. Don't judge be kind or go help but don't set behind your computer and do nothing but judge others.
What you DON'T do is defend the losers who CHAINED THEM UP TO DIE!! Get it?! How hard is that to understand, you heartless loser. And yes, I am in Texas and I KNOW what it is like. Stop trying to imagine and make excuses for these TERRIBLE people. Set the animal free, it takes half a second. They were warned for DAYS, Honey, and it sounds like you would be someone to wait to the last minute and get stuck. Use your brain, Honey! Can you tell by the comments that you are a party of ONE with your ignorant opinion?!
Susan , how can you say did not really know for sure . Sure or not if i was warned of severe weather i wouldnt be waiting around . The point is , ok if you can not take your pet you bloody dont leave it chained up to die .
You are right, you can't imagine because you can't think. Don't get a dog or cat. It appears like you can't handle the responsibility. OH, NO, DON'T judge by a picture ---- That pic was CLEAR, they chained up the dog and left it to die. Grow a brain.
Leaving your pet behind in the chaos and/or panic is one thing but tying it to a chain without giving it a chance to survive?? ( and I am a hurricane survivor so do know what I am talking about)
And stop defending yourself - you don't have a defense.
If there was a warning there would be a hurricane in my town I'd not only rescue my dog and my degus. My stick insects, my fish, my silkworm and the butterfly eggs I'm taking care of wouldn't be left behind either. How can someone be such a git to leave a pet behind? If I'm not ready to give up some stick insects who eat my avocado tree, then how heart less can someone be to leave their dog behind? Some people make me sick.
Not just behind, but to a horrible death: tied in the middle of rising waters. I can't even imagine the fear ANY living being would feel, how could anyone kill a member of their family this way?
I should hope you would take your silkworm and insects etc. Once you bring a creature to care for into your home, you take on absolute responsibility to care for them to the best of your abilities until the day they die. Too bad everybody isn't like you.
What would you do if you only had time to save yourself and your child? What would you do if you were an elderly person who could barely save yourself? What would you do if had 20 dogs and only time to save a few? You don't know until you are put in that position. No one does. People on the internet can react to photos they see without having any backstory whatsoever—or only the backstory that a "reporter" or "photographer" provides them with. Stop judging people that you have no clue about. Chaining or tying up an animal though is downright terrible...that's something that the person will have to live with for the rest of their lives, without needing the Holier Than Thou Internet Police telling them that their horrible people.
If the hurricane was here in Cincinnati, I would stay behind just to free all of the dogs
AMEN!!!!!
There was a story of a guy in India who did just that. I can't remember exactly what the emergency was, but his town was told to evacuate, but they couldn't take their animals, so he refused to leave and took the responsibility for a number of them.
These people didn't deserve to have those pets nor do they deserve to ever have any again. Would you abandon your child in a deadly situation? Your elderly parents? There is NO DIFFERENCE. Another fine example of the disgrace exemplified in the human species.
My heart just cries out to these pups. Their eyes say it all.
Thank God they were rescued, not sure about the trailer dog, but the others were :(
I have absolutely no sympathy or any understanding for these people. These dogs trusted you and you were the only thing they had. None of you should be ever allowed to have a pet.EVER. The police needs to track down these people. They had a warning and plenty of time....A Lot of TIME..to save their dogs.
things get rough, the real person comes out. no. not everyone or even most would leave their pets behind.
Let's not forget some heroes from Lousiana flood (woman and her dog saved from submerged car) woman-and-...2540f0.jpg
Leaving your pet behind - horrible and sad, but at least it has a chance to survive. Leaving your pet CHAINED (to make sure it really dies???) - I can't put in words what I wish on these heartless creatures.
Why would anyone do such a thing to a dog? To a life long friend? ;(
Also probably the only life long friend, who loves you unconditionally no matter what. Breaks my heart into thousand pieces...
Know*
I kn
I cannot begin to imagine the sheer evilness of anyone doing this. I hope the dog owners, if found, are prosecuted and serve time changed to a tree. These people should not walk the face of the earth. I'm so thankful to all who came to the rescue of these animals.
There's a follow up story today. That sad little dog was saved!
For those of you who don't live in Texas, you'll be happy to know that the Sheriff of Harris County (where Houston is) has already said the WILL prosecute anyone who leaves a dog chained or tied up. It's already against a state law to do so and is even worse, in this kind of situation
Genuinely want to murder those who left their dog to die.
I don't know what's worse, people killing people or people killing dogs, either way I am against murder personally !
Stephan Bouwman haha
I hear ya!
Anybody else up for a round of hypocrisy?
It's not hypocrisy when the animal has done no harm to anyone but the human is a murderer for leaving their dog chained up! It's called karma or justice not hypocrisy u inbreed reprobate
You're a pig
Dogs can swim!!! Why would you take that chance from them??????
This comment has been deleted.
Jenz, that's the point that Phlowa Phlow is making. If the owners absolutely *had* to leave their pets behind, they should have left them unchained so that they'd at least have the chance to swim to safety. Chaining them up only ensures their deaths. =(
If you can do that to a animal, you deserve to die.
Anyone who chains their animal outside when it is about to flood should be chained outside themselves.
They shouldn't be chained up outside under any circumstance, should be against the law. You don't chain up your kids so if you can't treat a pet right don't get one. They have feelings too. Fear, hurt, feeling abandoned, love, they mourn etc.
Unfortunately a lot of people in Texans (and I won't get in to the stereotype that holds strong evidence of what "type" of people) but a lot of them tie them up outside all day and night every day and night and never show them love :(
What the hell? If you would leave ur pet ur a dumbass and shouldnt have a pet😡pets are supposed to be family not something to just toss aside
That's exactly what a police chief about 40 miles north of Houston is saying. He wants to clamp down on those who betrayed their furry family members -- especially the selfish demons who left dogs tied up with no way to escape the floods.
That's why I prefer animals to people...
Right! My dog wouldn't leave me ............
They where warned in well time before the hurricane, and last minute you chain them up to posts? How horrid. This isn't all of them, I'm sure. These people don't have the right to own animals, let alone dogs. It's truly sad and frustrating how people will treat pets. Pets become family, and family is to stick together. Pets are like children, so would you leave your child behind to die in a storm? Absolutely saddening, and my condolences for those poor dogs.
My husband gets mildly upset when we have 'What-if' scenarios and I always put the dog and cat first. (We're newly-weds with no kids yet). But I've lived in Texas, and there are and abundance of people there who are notorious for abandoning their pets in any situation. Stray dogs run around all the time because the owners couldn't be bothered to take them to a shelter. So this doesn't surprise me, sadly.
I think it comes from all the third world inhabitants that we have in TX. I have never seen any state treat animals like this, and not to be racist or anything but it seems that people that come from S. of the border seem to think it is ok to get pets and then tie them to trees their entire lives or drop them off on the corner to wander the town until they starve :( it is really sad!
How can you possibly think your comment wasnt racist ? There are plenty of people who were born in the US , parents born in the US , who are "white" who get a puppy and 6 months later the dog is now chained up and left chained up for the majority if not all of its daily life and plenty of people who let their dog or cat roam free , have random litters etc . To say that only "those people" from 'South of the border " do it is ridiculous and ignorant .
your comment is completely wrong!! my husband is from Mexico and his dogs are his babies and he would die for them!! He has spoiled them rotten and in NO WAY would he have left them! so your statement is void! he IS from south of the border!
As soon as you say, Not to be racist or anything, you self-identify as racist. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm going to report your comment, because it is DEFINITELY RACIST. You're welcome.
Some people just absolutely SUCK.
I've read about these dogs in the daily mail. Thankfully they were all rescued but it made me angry the paper was asking the owners to come forward to get their dogs. NO. If you can leave your vulnerable helpless pet tied up or alone to fend for itself then you don't deserve to be a pet owner! They should be prosecuted for animal cruelty if anything! I wouldn't dream of leaving my pets behind, they would be the first I would take. Like I've said in the other articles on this site, when you become a pet owner you take on having the responsibility, welfare and safe keeping of that animal. If you aren't up to it. Don't own a pet!! They are family, you wouldn't leave a child or your grandmother behind would you! No excuses!
I am not a big fan of pets. However, I believe that if you have a pet, you should take care of them in times like this. I don't believe in animal cruelty either. I might be able to understand if residents had no warning and just absolutely had no room for their pet. But, that was not the case. Again, I'm not a dog fan or pet person; but, I don't believe in mistreating your pet. It's good to know that people are taking these animals in.
At least you understand that about yourself and it doesn't keep you from being humane.
I agree to not leave your pet behind, however, the city officials told everyone to stay at home. To not leave the city. Only now, they are having mandatory evacuations in areas. Shame on the officials! There are idiots out there yes (the ones tying pets up), but others who are forced to make tough choices. Carry the kids through chest deep water or the pet. Also, side note, where are the cats???
Where are the cats? Inside the homes full of rising water. I double dog dare anybody to come back to a home where they left a cat all alone with rising water. Better bring some hydrogen peroxide to help heal your wounds.
You can't carry, you cut them loose. There is NO excuse for leaving them chained, caged or otherwise trapped. Make all the excuses you want but there is nothing to justify that. At least let them have fighting chance to swim or run to safely.
I understand people are TRYING to make excuses for them. ANYONE who is trying to create excuses never owned a dog in their life. Dogs have at minimum the intelligence of a 3 year old. Would you leave a 3 year old child like this because you had others? Of course not. Its the dumbest comment any human ever made. There are NO excuses. You don't take them with you, BUT, you don't want them to run and save their life BECAUSE???????. Despite the warning of massive flooding coming you chain them to a tree condemning them to death with them watching you leave while in fear? Only the lowest, worthless piece of manure on the earth could do that. Anyone who did this deserves jail and that's the kindest. You don't want to know what I would really do to them. I'm not only going to pray every dog is saved but anyone who DID this is turned in, severely punished and NEVER allowed to own an animal. In Katrina shelters didn't allow pets. Now they do. The US learned a lesson the hard way. No excuses!
I simply can't imagine leaving my kitty behind. Even if I had a large dog -- if there was ANY way possible to take them with me -- I would do so. Our pets are family -- who leaves family behind??
I live close to this flooding, my town is full of evacuees right now. All I have to say, is Texas in General has a lot of people that treat their dogs like crap!! They probably have been tied to those poles and trees all year.......strays everywhere...... I don't know if it is the "culture" that carries this disregard or the "mulitculturism" that has influenced towns like mine where most of the inhabitants are from Honduras but it really pisses me off. I just can't save them all and there isn't even a shelter here....all they have is some cages next to the dump that they keep them in for one week and then kill and burn them :( It's really pathetic and I am from a state/town that treats pets 100% differently !
I dont even live in the US and MOST of the horrific animal abuse articles etc I come across are unbelieable stories of dogs that are found in Texas, specifically Houston. There is a great deal more than any other place in the world and these stories come from all sorts of sources, for some reason Houston is not just dominating the number of occurrences, but I can always guess when a story will be from Houston based on the sadistic/cruel nature of a situation. Houston has its own level of depravity that would shock even the most hardened, detached individual. So sad
The dog in the first pic is safe! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4830550/Meet-Lucky-dog-saved-Hurricane-Harvey.html
I can't imagine that they would do this on purpose. Maybe they (dumbly) didn't realize that it would mean certain death for the pups? I'm, admittedly, bad at seeing the bad in people.
Not everyone is like you and most of the people commenting here. Some people are just worthless pieces of refuse who are completely narcissistic. They do not have the capability to think beyond their own needs.
I'm unable to upvote this. I'm owner of a dog 🐶 i live in the UK and have had times when we've been flooded. Under no circumstances would I even consider leaving my precious baby behind. In my world where I go so does my dog 🐶. In other words we come as a package, there's three of us, my darling daughter, my adorable doglet and me. You can't have just part of the package so that's how it should be. 😭 🐶 ❤ 💕🌹
Photographers need to go ahead and show the addresses in their pics in cases like this. Name and shame the gaddamned monsters who would do this.
STUPID people should NEVER own a pet!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so very sad for them..and i hope the owners are charged if they are found...thank goodness for the rescue workers.. :)
F**king messed up what if u were tied to the tree with no chances At all And a huge flood appeared , legs tied hands tied etc u wouldn't like it SO DON'T DO IT TO ANIMALS IF U DO YOU A RUTHLESS,CRUEL,MEAN PERSON. IF U GOT THE DOG THEN DON'T F**KING LEAVE IN THE DAMN FLOOD.
I think anyone who did something like this should be beaten to within an inch of their life, and then waterboarded.
Who would leave their freaking babies tied up!?!!
I would like to know how we can help rescue the animals. If anyone has any information
I can't. I just can't!
Or, just cut them loose and TAKE them. If a pet is too much, what do they do when they have an extra kid, tie it out too? These people should be fined, at the very least. I don't give a f**k if they lost everything. They'd have lost it anyway. Leaving a pet tied to a tree in a hurricane is EVIL.
Pet owners, make up your minds... you'll snap at anyone who doesn't respect your wishes of seeing your dogs as family members, yet, you'll be the FIRST to give up your dog's life when you regarding your HUMAN family personal safety. I'll admit, I'm not a pet owner, but I certainly know responsibility when taking care of another living soul.
How Horrible!! Leave them unchained-- at least a fighting chance, Hope each owner is HEAVILY FINED ( and I dont CARE if family already "lost every thing"!-- A PET is NOT A THING!!-- IT IS A LIVING GENTLE SOUL WHO has protected and given unconditional LOVE and ITS WHOLE HEART TO OWNERS-- just to be tied up left to DIE) HOW HORRIBLE!! HEAVILY FINE the owners for rescue AND never NEVER never NEVER allow IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS to own another pet in their life. How horrible!!
I hope addresses were taken to serve these dog owners what's coming to them!
And yet there are people complaining about others saving/helping animals rather than humans.....
The lovely thing about science and technology today is that we have PLENTY of warning before most kinds of weather events like this. People had plenty of warning, they could easily have packed up the dog with everything else. At the very least, if you REALLY can't take your pet with you, give it to someone else who can! Don't just chain it down, come on, that's heartless of the worst kind! I hope these pets are rescued by someone with a better heart than their cruel abandoners! There's just no excuse!
Good to know, these dogs are being rescued by the photographers. And those who did should not have pets. after the storm is done.
If those taking the picture did not do anything to help they are just as bad as the people that left them in the first place..
I just read what some politican dude or the other said, that Texans deserve the hurricane for voting Trump. A good laugh. See this.....y'all motherfuckers.....des......-sigh-
It was a professor in Tampa who said that, not a politician. The jerk got fired...yay!!
Why the fuck people would leave their pets behind like this is beyond me.
I'm crying
If I have to bring ONE THING, I will bring my pets with me. OK, maybe my wallet too
The people who did this should be identified and barred from ever owning another animal.
NO COMMON SENSE AT ALL THEY SHOULD BE BAND FROM OWNING ANY KIND OF PET!
Please, please, PLEASE tell me these jackasses (and I'm being G rated for what I REALLY want to say will be prosecuted and tossed in jail. Can you imagine the terror, the fear, that these dogs felt? Can't these pieces of manure have ANY compassion in them? It should be 100% illegal to chain or tie or restrain ANY animal at ANY time but it should be a prisonable offense to evacuate and not take pets. Its murder, just like a human. I can't imagine the terror these animals felt. Please tell me the people who took these pictures saved these dogs. I wish I had never read this. I feel sick to my stomach and in tears. I never dreamed there were so many heartless, cold, sick, hateful people in Texas. Farmers and ranchers at least often try to save entire herds of animals and these pieces of manure can't save one animal. And then, to leave them tied, not even free to try to survive on their own, its calculated murder.
Truth be told I would sacrifice my own life to save my Fur Babies. I can't stop crying thinking about this.
I THINK PEOPLE TIE UP THERE DOGS SHOULD BE TIED UP TO A TREE AS WELL U PEOPLE ARE LOSERS
You Texans claim to believe in an "eye for an eye" with your harsh punishments for those who commit crimes and inhumane acts. Now's the time to prove it. Do something to the owners of these innocent animals!!!
Cowards leave helpless dogs and cats behind. Cowards.
Whoever was responsible for this should be cuffed to a street lamp in the middle of a hurricane. Lets fucking see how they enjoy nearly drowning. I have zero love or respect for anyone who mistreats animals.
absolutely disgusting behaviour, my first thought is to get my animals safe before i get any of my possessions, possessions can be replaced, pets can't....
These people don't deserve to have pets. I have to say I did see a whole lot of people carrying their dogs some bigger than their owner through the flood waters an it brought a smile to my face and tears to my eyes.
Anybody know what happened to the dog first pictured?
The photographer did. He called her Lucky and when he rescued her she ran away. The next day he went looking for her to give her food and when she saw him she ran up to him. The photographer asked around and found out that she belonged to people who had left behind a pitbull terrier a pony and a few other animals. He got all those animals to a Huston animal rescue centre but as he has formed a bond with Lucky he is going through the "proper channels" as he calls it to adopt Lucky and bring her home with him to New York. I really really hope he succeeds
did the other two? I hate crap like this. it's awful
I think if you can take a picture you can rescue these animals. Did you just leave them there? Also, I am not surprised about Texas not caring about their animals. These are the same horrible people that lunch shamed small children whose parents couldn't afford to pay for the school lunches. You cruel people in texas need to get rid of your legislators and get some Dems in who care about people an animals and life in general rather than fake religious leaders who only care about money. What filth would leave a dog, cat or other animal to die chained during a hurricane? So, I'm glad you got your pictures though and then saved yourself while the dog died. Awful, awful people. Boycott texas and all of its products. Disgusting bunch of backward filth.
The people had plenty of warning. That was plain abuse. These people shouldn't even have children. That's a true death sentence
Can you imagine what that poor dog and all the other animal's were thinking when they saw there owners leave without them. The high winds the rain and they couldn't hide underneath anything that was dry or warm. They had to endure the sounds of roaring wind tree's and debree and starving. flying all around them no one there to hold them, and to make them feel wanted and safe. They give you unconditional love and this is the thanks they got from these monsters lock them to a tree when the next big one comes and see how it feels to be abanded. PIGS!!!
MY DOG IS SITTING BESIDE ME. WE FINISHED EATING DINNER WHERE I FED HIM HALF THEN GAVE THE CAT HER SHARE AND THE THREE BIRDS WE RESCUED THEIR SHARE. I SAY THE BIRDS ARE RESCUED BECAUSE I WOULD NEVER ON PURPOSE CAGE AN ANIMAL UNLESS IT WAS SICK AND NEEDED HELP. ONCE I WAS GIVEN THREE RABBITS NO ONE WANTED AND I LET THEM RUN FREE IN THE YARD. IT'S WELL FENCED BUT WE ALL KNOW AN ANIMAL IN A FENCED YARD IS NO GUARANTEE THEY WILL STAY INSIDE THE FENCED YARD. MY BUNNIES ACTUALLY MADE A TUNNEL UNDER THE FENCE ONE FALL SO THEY GO INTO THE NEIGHBOR'S ORCHARD TO ROLL APPLES BACK THROUGH THE TUNNEL TO THE WILLOW TREE IN OUR YARD WHERE THEY MADE A BARN FOR THEIR FOOD. I LOVE ANIMALS. I LOVE PEOPLE. I WOULD NOT LEAVE EITHER TO JUST DIE LIKE IN THIS ARTICLE. WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? AM SURE AT LEAST ONE OF THE DOGS WHO WAS TIED TO SOMETHING AT A PERSON THINKING, "WELL IF I LEAVE HER WHERE SOMEONE CAN SEE HER SHE WILL BE SAVED." A FREE ANIMAL HAS A CHANCE TO SURVIVE.
How people treat animals just shows how society is. No morals
Why not just let it go if can’t take with you, to fend for itself? If it survives the tag on its collar will get it returned to you. Chaining condemns to death if water level rises.
Only in America. "Gods county" yeah ok
How about the one in the first photo? What happened to him/her?
I live in Houston and I saw many people taking their animals with them . you people are like the main stream media focusing on the negative instead of the unity and heroism of the Houston people who were advised by the democratic mayor not to evacuate against the advice of Governor Abbott and President Trump.
CUNTS
We have 4,soon to be 5 (when one we are rescuing comes from abroad, arrives),and we would NEVER,EVER leave our dogs any more than we would our human loved ones.To us,a soul is a soul,it matters not the vessel it comes in.A dog,and many other animals, will show you more love and loyalty than any human will.Even so,I literally couldn't see a rat in need! If I could save the soul,I would.
I couldn't bear to leave my dogs behind. If I couldn't carry them with me, I would stay in place. It would not be a hard decision at all. I love my dogs and they love me unconditionally. I only hope that people who left their dogs tied to trees with no other hope than potential drowning or suffocation will be prosecuted to the fullest extent and that they are NEVER allowed to have animals again. And I hope that those pups find a forever AND loving home.
I know that people in texas is going thru very bad times right now and worried about there lives and there kids; but its no excuse to leave a helpless animal tied up; that's not giving them a chance to make it thru the bad storms either; at least untied them so they will have a fighting chance to. And for the animals that are in pens at least open there gates to give them a chance of finding higher grounds away from the rising water cause drowning is not pretty.
Leaving the dog in a hurricane cat hamster any animal at all that you just left in a hurricane then you're just a horrible person a straight-up horrible horrible person never ever ever leave your pets behind because they are putting your family too and they love you
Horrible to leave your dog in a hurricane cats I mean it's just horrible it's a horrible thing to do
It should be a felony to chain up a dog period!
What isn't told is that the waters rose to a dangerous level , and when rescuers came, they were only taking people, it wasn't until later animals were included also. To be in this position, is unimaginable! Not able to take your pets, and save your kids... don't judge, until you understand the situations people were in. Livestock were also left in corrals, it wasn't something you get time to do much about. Help came later, in the form of regular old people, that came and got people and pets, and walked cows and horses to safety. So, please don't judge them. You say you would do the right thing, but until you are in this kind of situation, don't tell me, you know what the right thing is.
People expect to be rescued and leave their animals to drown! S h ameful society! Dogs feel fear and pain the same as those cruel peopke!
Where the dogs in these photos rescued I hope?? I would hope the person passing taking the photo would leave the poor thing. I could never do that and these photos break my heart.
I read somewhere that Houston has something like 1.25 million homeless dogs, after the storm subsides there will be a lot of dead dogs.
I can't figure out why Americans get a dog only to leave the poor animal chained up outside in all weathers.
UNFORTUNATELY this happens a lot. I was in the flood of 1997 in the Ohio valley I was living in Falmouth, KY at the time and was stuck in my apartment all night. Not to be rescued by boat the following morning. The worst part to me was from about 11:30P to midnight. I heard dogs barking all over town. By 1A they all stopped. You just knew what had happen.
This is so disgusting and pathetic. Also, it's deplorable. I hope these former owners are found and prosecuted for their treatment of these poor babies. I know it was posted that one of the dogs was rescued, but were there any others?
Thanks to the photographer n other lovely ppl who unchained the dog. God bless you.
I'm actually crying oml
Please save those animals not just people...also please find those motherfucking owners responsible for the animals left behind and drown them while securely tied up.no questions asked.
This is sickening. Even if you have to choose between your child and your pet, at least let the dog go free so it can try to survive instead of drown. Disgusting.
Here's what I think about the people who did that. only-one-d...931d39.jpg
I agree with all the posts that were shown in this story. Animals are living beings and should be treated with the same respect that humans get. I really wish that the people who chained their animals to something could bet charged with attempted murder. To me, that's all it was.
First off, get the facts straight. You don't know the situation the people were in before and when they did this. Secondly, those of you saying "they should've brought them on the rescue boats" — again, get your facts straight. Many of the rescue boats did not allow animals onto the boats. I love my dogs immensely and they're family but if it came down to saving my CHILD'S life or my dog's life, I'll pick my child 100 times out of 100. Wouldn't even think twice. For example, if you're a single mother of two and you have a dog. Who are you going to save? Your two children or one child and a dog? GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU JUDGE PEOPLE!!!!!
Or also keep in mind that maybe, the person who owned the pet could be elderly or disabled...stop judging.

These people who can leave a dog shows their lack of care for the animal. It has probably been going on for a long time before the flood. They should be punished & never be allowed another
tghat is horrible I hope this Chief really takes care of this Inhumane act of cruelty!I'm fighting back tears.I don't want to cause another Hurricane.
MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. I AM SORRY THAT THIS HURRICANE DEVASTATED SO MANY BUT TO WILLINGLY LEAVE PETS BEHIND IS UNTHINKABLE AND CRUEL. I AM NOT HEARTLESS. I AM PISSED. THE FEAR AND TERROR THESE ANIMALS FELT IS UNIMAGINABLE. SO ONCE AGAIN...MAY YOU ROT IN HELL
What I'm wondering is who took these pictures and did they rescue them??? I could not stand there and take a photo and not do something about it! I'm happy to hear that people will be prosecuted for mistreating their animals this way!
this is what i dont like seeing you adopt a pet they are not pets at all you adoppt them into your family they now become family if you wouldnt leave your family behind dont leave your animals behind no matter how small or big they might be they have feelings too. you wouldnt like it if you got left behind and tied to a tree to drown would you?
You Americans are unsivilisised and are your animals not familymembers and are u flying from a storm so dont u take your animals with on the flight? How can u leave them like this u have got no sivilisation by doing this :-) In Norway we does not have Donald Trump and we have sosialism and solidarity and we care for our citizans and we Do not tie dogs up at a roadside if a cathatrofy accures, couse we have a cililisation and we protect our animals and humen beings to something very strange and alian for a person like Trump because he is a big disaster to the world because he dont know the word and inpact of solidarity :-)
What is wrong with the human race nowadays. If they have children they care for them and one presumes that if you have a pet you will care for that as well. If you can't do this then DON'T HAVE PETS or children!!!
Some people just need killin'...
Hopefully all the dogs survive. And the owners who left them chained up well you know who you are and SHAME ON YOU.
More on the dog tied to the pole... http://collegecandy.com/2017/08/29/hurricane-harvey-dog-rescue-ruaridh-connellan-photos-details/
These people leaving their pets tied are ignorant, The "lesson learned The people leaving their pets behind are ignorant! The " lesson learned" is that evacuation instructions should advise to set their animals free if they cant evacuate them or place them out of harms way. "
You know these people problem told the kids "its ok we will get a new one when we settle in". Fuck people. If this doesn't bring them humility nothing will.
Some people have no heart and should never own an animal!
Some people have no hearts and should never own an animal!
psychos. Value systems fucked beyond repair.
Anyone who does this to their pets deserves whatever Karma Harvey gives to them. Hopefully these poor animals, and the thousands who were Houston Street Dogs before the hurricane, will be rescued and taken to other areas where there is actually a demand for cats and dogs.
People ( trash ) can be so mean. Those animals ( all of them from nature to domestic ) are suffering so bad why would you willingly leave an animal confined or chained is so far beyond me ( True Animal lover )
they should be banned from ever owning an animal again.
I don't feel so bad now for what Texans did to their animal pets.
I don't feel sorry for Texans now after seeing this.
Dame dogs, id like to reverse it and see if their dogs would take off and leave them their. The dogs are the ones with the love and devotion.
This just breaks my heart. The owners should be found and charged and locked up for animal abuse. I don't care that a law was passed that animal rescue had to be a part if rescued. I would never And I Mean NEVER leave my pets thinking someone else will rescue them. Even if I knew they would be rescued there's always the possibility of never seeing them again.
People that leave their pets chained up should have the same done to them
Where's the proof that people just left these dogs? There is only one of these that seem to have something hanging off it's collar and if you care to look at other posts here about Harvey, you will see these same three dogs but with entirely different headlines on them
As someone who was very close to the devistating 2009 Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria Australia, I can firmly say this is disgusting! You NEVER leave pets behind to die while you've got the ability to take them with you. We had 4 dogs and 3 puppies who would have needed evacuating at the drop of a hat if the fires got over the hill and we had only a few days to come up with a plan which we praticed in the smoke haze. You NEVER leave them, ever. In the event of a house fire or storm damage I have a plan to get my 4 guinea pigs and 1 dog out within 5mins (yep practiced that plan too). If you are a dedicated animal parent and a decent person you have a plan to get them to safety.
Glad to know the photographer actually did something!
I guess that while this kind of monster, leave their family (yes, my dog is also part of my family) behind, their lives will never be better.
Did the photographer save the poor puppy in the first picture?
Those people are pieces of Shit !!!!!!!!!!
I have 3 furbabies and 11 birds. If I have to evacuate, you better believe they are going with me. Fortunaltely I live on the side of a mountain in Virginia. If it gets to me, the entire east coast will be underwater. Rich Creek, VA is where I live.
I can't express how disgusted I am at people that leave their pets behind in these situations, there was lots of warning about this hurricane and there was lots of opportunity for people to arrange for evacuation of their pets too,Those that left them tied up,with no chance of getting to safety are scum !I have nothing but contempt for them.
It's unfortunate that those that tie them to something didn't feel like they did when they first obtained the dog. I agree with what John L wrote that the caring parent photo lady should be praised. I have a mini dachshund and some say I spoil her, while I think she is no different than any child I've had.
even in a "small flood" my father always said untie the dogs they have a chance to get to higher ground like that are doggie paddle if necessary.
Fur babies are family members too. Only people who are completely callous would do this. I hope they get prosecuted to the highest degree possible.
I honestly can't imagine leaving my house without my pet. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I abandoned them. How can these assholes do this? Never leave your animals, they're a family too.
This is pure cruelty plain and simple and there needs to be repercussions for such. And not a slap on the wrist either. They should never be able to have another animal in their possession again along with a heavy fine. Maybe have it noted like a sign mandated to be put in their yard. If you can't treat an animal correctly with passion and love, then you should not have any animals period
i mean u are so mean if u cant take it with u at least u unchain him. God know how many died like this.
This is messed up. I was under an evacuation order many years ago, the emergency officials said I couldn't bring my dogs and my cat, so we stayed. I was not evacuating without them. All these years later and nothing has changed, if we had to evacuate today and I couldn't bring my dog and cat, I'm not evacuating. They are as much a part of my family as my children and grandchildren.
Those who left their PETS to die will for sure DIE A MILLION TIMES OVER .... . HAIL THOSE WHO SAVED THEM.
In those three photos of dogs I'm fairly confident none of them are tide to anything. I would imagine those dogs got separated from their owners sometime during the hurricane or prior to the evacuation. Another stupid article looking for click bait in the face of natural disaster
I really hate seeing posts like this. It is extremely upsets and makes me so so sad. many humans would not do such a thing but soo many are evil and disgusting i hope they get whats coming to them.
The lowest of the low. God Bless the people who rescued these dogs.
i mean, 100 of humans will die in floods and hurricane, there are hundreds of stray animals roaming which will be caught in the floods but, you know this single dog chained to the tree will break your heart. Because someone photographed it posted on the internet
Ok I got the scoop on the dogs the two dogs live on the same property and cats there too but abandones, photographer is feeding them he saved all of them and now named the one dog Lucky and is trying to adopt him! its all good for these dogs. Thank God for this person !Ruaridh Connellan is his name.
Was the dog in the first picture...the one tied to a pole...rescued?
Never mind...just read the post that says it was saved.
This is one of the saddest posts I have ever seen😢I am allergic to animals, dogs very! People take for granted the privilege and JOY of unconditional LOVE, no EXCUSE FOR THIS or any OTHER Animal neglect....if you can't take 100% Care of innocent Animals you shouldn't be allowed to own them!
How hard is it for people to put the DOG IN THE CAR!!!!
I don't understand how and why people can be so cruel
Were any of these dogs rescued or did the person taking pics leave them to die???
What about the dog tied to a pole? Thats awful, anyone know??
The human being is a vile creature.
God bless all those who rescued the dogs. As for those who left the dogs to die.......Karma is a bitch!
I can't even open it.
If this brothers you ,Good for you .Your pet is part of your family, life, and you. People that don't know what the Bonding between pet and them are missing out.
Did the photog rescue or just document?
I agree If they can't take the dog, they should let them go so that they may have a chance. Shelters have now have so many dogs. I would take one but I live in Mass.
I say if the owners are found which I doubt chain them up to a pool in the ocean and let the sharks eat them. You just don't treat your pet like this. I have 5 dogs and if I had to evacuate I would leave when told to and take all 5 with me. They are my life.
I can't imagine what people would have been thinking. Better to lose your pet, than to return and find it's drowned body still chained to a tree. Also - I'd like to point out that if you're close enough to get a picture, you're close enough to rescue the animal.
I really really hope he succeeds.
Those that left those poor animals to die should not be allowed to have them back! I, myself have two fur babies and would never think of leaving them. That is plain murder - and no excuse.
Did the other two get rescued? Dammit. It pisses me off.
In the first photo, the dog was rescued by the photographer
A lot of shelters will not allow animals. There should be a place you can take your animals to in a time of crisis that will hold them for you. Most places will not.
There is a special place in hell for people like that. I should drive to texas myself and beat the snot outta them. WTF
Homes and residences where these animals were left to die, while scared inhuman people ran and saved themselves should be published in newspapers nationwide!!!!
Fvck you, and the cvnt mother that raised you you fvcking vile excuses for human beings...
STOP getting pets if you have no idea what the word ''responsibility'' means.. PLEASE folks. They thought enough of you if you had an emergency in your home.. Now was the time you needed to think of them.. PLEASE who ever did this.>? DO NOT get another pet of any sort 528457_101...9d2692.jpg
Did you assholes think that maybe you are experiencing this horrible storm and consequences because you are a bunch of awful Republicans who tie your dogs up and leave them to die in a flood??? Maybe something is WRONG with YOU -- And maybe you get what you deserve? You disgust me.
karma to the owners, time to tie them up...
When i reached the third picture, my heart was just broken. so god damn sad. who ever did this should be treated the same!
If the owner was to drown, I bet the dog would try to help...
It's New Orleans / Katrina all over again :(
I don't know who these people are but I will find them and I will chain them and let them drown for this
they commented on the news that people shouldn't do that and after Katrina they said that was the worst thing you can do as usually a dog can fend for itself, hopefully, long enough until rescued. But I do know that TX officials were telling people not to tie them up.
This just brings tears to my eyes...to upset for words when people leave animals that cannot help themselves! Remember...what goes around, comes around...
kids or no kids animals are children would you chain your child to a tree in hopes that he would still be there when you return I hope not but I suppose if you do this to an animal you would be the very people to leave your kids in a hot car with the windows rolled up and not think anything of it. I have a dog and you better believe he will come with me I was in a situation when my electric went out in the entire apt complex I lived in and everyone was without electric for over a week in sweltering 100 degree temps her in Texas I had a dog and cat and kids my dog and cat and me and my kids went to stay in a hotel if it was to hot to stay there it was to hot for my furbabies so they came also they were part of the family I even brought my fish to my mothers house for safe keeping so people have to remember animals are a big commitment and not to be taken likely if you cant care for them properly do not I repeat DO NOT GET A PET.
Lowlife ignorant jerks are the only kind of people that could do something like that. Hope they like Hell when they get there, cause anyone that would do that sure doesn't deserve to get into Heaven when the time comes. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
This makes me sick. I have 4 of my own. I would leave my crap there and take my pets. they would be the first thing i would grab. of course dont have kids. So they would be the first. There is no excuse for them to leave the pets behind. How can you look into their eyes and just walk away really? what is the people that was there to help seen them and just walked away and let them fend for them self? maybe that is what they should do
Is there anyone who can tell us where and how we can FOSTER some of these poor animals!!! I have tried in vain, and cant seem to get an answer. Even tho we live in a different State, I would happily foster a dog until this horror ends........everyone in the entire USA needs to help out!!
At least release them to try and fend for themselves, people that chain dogs don't love them they just use them to ward off burglars , they don't deserve to have any animals ever again, I could never leave an animal behind they are our responsibility and to own one is to love them like our family ,and you wouldn't leave a family member behind would you, I hope these people are arrested after this is over
I hope the person that took the time to take the pictures, took the time to untie them, otherwise they're no better than the owners who left them! Makes me enraged people would leave their animals like that! They didn't "forget" either!
I hope the person that took the time to take the photos, took the time to untie and help them! Taking a picture and leaving them behind is just as bad as the owners leaving them in the first place!
were these dogs rescued in these photos?
I think the people that tied or chained their dogs and left are scum! You knew the storm was coming, you should have gotten kennels for your pets and gotten out.
red neck cousin fuckers
Their owners should be chained up to a tree!
One bullet for each of those owners.
This disgusting act must be prosecuted.
There should be a state list of people found to mistreat animals and banned from ever owning one again and if they do, 6 months in jail mandatory.
There should be a state list of people found to have mistreated an animal and banned from ever owning one again and if they do, 6 months in prison mandatory. Post the list online so people can check and report them.
Does anyone know about the first dog? Did they save him? This breaks my heart. We don't deserve puppies, they just love us unconditionally and some people treat them so badly.
There has to be a SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL for people who abandon and abuse animals!! Evil pieces of crap that need to be chained up themselves!!
Our fur babies look to us for protection and care ....it's truly a sad thing when someone would leave a fur baby behind (chained) with no chance .....I have three fur babies and their well being comes first...period
how cruel to tie up an animal, if you can't find it in your heart to take them with you at least give them a chance to save themselves, I used to drive underground in tornado warnings with my pets right in the back seat, their your babies how could you
Not only are you abandoning your loyal family member, you ARE TYING IT UP SO THAT IT WILL DROWN AND CAN NOT SAVE ITS OWN LIFE. Are you a pshycopath or are just infinite STUPID!!!
There is no excuse in the world to leave your dog behind. If you can find one, then you don't deserve to be responsible for another living creature.
The owners should be found and chained to something themselves in rising storm water just to show them how it feels. I could never do this to one of our dogs, or any dog for that fact, It's just cruel.
PETS ARE FAMILY TOO!!
these people are the type that are animal abusers regularly if the dogs are tied out like that ! thank god there are some good people to help rescue the dogs !
Poor babies. Would never leave my dog behind, his life is as important as mine.
This is terrible...i have 2 cats as well as 2 children and no one is being left behind. They have feelings and personalities as we do and deserve love and compassion. Anyone that ties a dog to a tree doesn't deserve them. This is heartbreaking.
Anyone who sees pets left behind, and doesn't help them, is just as guilty as the ones who abandoned them.
there's a special place in hell for these kind of people... 😡👎
Its really heartbroking!
I can't imagine how any one could do this. I was just talking to my dad about a potential storm and I was worried that if that day came I would need an emergency tank for my goldfish. The thought of leaving a goldfish behind made me sick, how could some one leave these beautiful dogs? :(
Disgusted! Why would you leave them tied up...these people should be charged..…
Dogs can swim!!!! Why would you be a monster and take that chance from him?????????????
I hate these kind of scum for leaving their family behind..#lowlifes
My little dog is my life. No way in hell would I EVER leave him behind. I hate even to leave him a few hours a day to go to work.
