This Abandoned Casino Was Once The Most Magnificent Building In Romania
During a recent trip to Romania, I had the chance to shoot the abandoned casino in Constanta. As a pearl watching over the Black Sea where wealthy travelers and the elite flocked from all over Europe to play and dance all night in what used to be the most magnificent building of the country.
I hope my photographs will give you a glimpse of what was the atmosphere back in time!

Great place and location to be restored and transformed into an indipendently-run place for emerging artists of all disciplines or similar....

The mayor had a plan to rebuild the casino....but he opened some nightclubs in Mamaia. A good thing,he is in prison now.

Anita , i live there and indeed it's a beautiful building and all local people are sad beacuse of the situation of it , we hope something can be done to be saved, and yes , i was very young when the casino was ,,alive" and full of beautiful events and fun , believe me , i felt magic inside .I live with the hope of seeing it beautiful again and full of life .

Yup.. welcome to Romania. A place where politicians do not care about national treasures, but they do anything possible that their wallets get full every time. Including theft.
It's like an elegant aged grand lady who was once the belle of the ball still wearing all her disheveled finery.
Oh, what a shame that it's being left to rot! At least it doesn't appear to have been vandalized.

The history says that the daughter of the architect / builder died of tuberculosis exactly when the building was constructed. In homage of the child, the rooftop seen from the above has a very dull design: like a coffin lid. Might be the curse of Constanta's Casino. Or the ignorance of Romanians is the curse of ... Romania :)

I'm sorry to contradict you, but you are misinformed. This place has never been the most magnificent building in my country! We have Dracula's castle among hundreds of amazing other castles and palaces, as well as unique and unbelievable monasteries, and not forget about the third biggest building in the world that can be seen from the moon - the parliament! These are the most magnificent buildings in Romania, not some casino most Romanians don't even know about! Please get your facts straight before you go rambling about people's countries and cultural heritage - u don't know who you might offend!
The problem is that those places in our country are in the "mob teritorry" and without their accord some places like this will never be restored. People are too stupid to think that nobody cares, yes maybe some cares but they can't do much about that coz' this is under mob guidance.
Even like that u can see the beauty and the magic of this place :( such a shame...
It`s a beautiful building indeed, but the most magnificent building in Romania?? Why is necessary to exagerate?
Can some energetic person start a restoration society for this place? A website asking for funds. Spend first on getting it watertight to prevent more deterioration. After that, volunteers would do most restoration. It worked for uneconomic steam railways in Britain after the war. Now many are thriving.
Everything falls apart around here, I wish some country would buy us and start administrating Romania the right way, hanging or jailing all those ruining it..

So sad to see the craftmanship that went into building this place go to ruin, and what a location.
Loved these pictures! We can only hope that someday, somehow it will be salvaged and renovated to the grand palace it was before.
