Someone Shared The Last Words Of A Heroic Passenger From One Of The 9/11 Planes
This year marks the 18th anniversary of the day that people in America will never forget – September 11th. The terrorist attacks which took place on this day claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people, whom the media has quoted as ordinary. Yet, the word ‘ordinary’ doesn’t do justice to the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and regular citizens who showed great courage in the wake of the tragedy and went down in history as heroes. One of those brave people is Tom Burnett, a man who lost his life aboard the hijacked Flight 93 before fighting back against terrorists and potentially saving the lives of many.
On September 11th, soon after the hijacked planes hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Virginia, 40 people were aboard Flight 93 whose initial target was the U.S. Capitol Building. However, this plane was the only one out of the four planes that didn’t reach its intended target. Instead, the plane crashed into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. There were no survivors.

“It has been said that those aboard Flight 93 were just ordinary people. There was nothing ordinary about Tom Burnett. He was, in short, exceptional,” Tom’s wife Deena wrote about her late husband. The phone transcripts witness the courage of her husband who united with a few other passengers and stormed the cockpit of the hijacked plane and confronted the terrorists preventing them from reaching the target building. Today, Tom Burnett, along with three other passengers, Mark Bingham, Todd Beamer, and Jeremy Glick are known as heroes who became exemplary citizens to the whole nation.
To commemorate the memory of Tom Burnett, television host Mike Rowe shared a heartfelt Facebook post which includes phone transcripts to show why Tom is his true hero.

Share on FacebookThis brings me to tears, thinking of those poor people, almost certainly knowing they were going to die and there was nothing they could do about it. Those with children on board must have just held their kids and cried. It's so cruel.

These were the "let's roll" heroes who decided to take the plane down before it hit a govt. building. They knew the plane was going to be weaponized, and took action. They chose how and when they would die; they chose not to be passive victims. There were so many sacrifices that terrible day. One man who should never be honored is "America's Mayor" Giuliani who was safe in Brooklyn when 300 fire fighters died in one Tower. Those men did not have the proper radio bandwidth to receive a warning from a police helicopter hovering outside. They lacked that because Giuliani refused the funding to purchase new radio equipment for the NYFD. Fire fighters went to FL where Giuliani was campaigning for a President candidancy; they knocked on doors and told their story. Giuliani did not get nominated. His parade into NYC was disgusting. The corporation I worked for had customers in all the boroughs; we supported their widows and children with money and clothing donations.
Gosh, so absolutely horrifying to be on that plane and then to be talking to a loved one at that? Those poor people. None of them ever asked for what they got. No matter how many died, so many else died as well
Tom Burnett, Jeremy Glick, Mark Bingham, Todd Beamer, Sandra Bradshaw (less known than some of her fellow passengers, but still a hero. Look her up). All of them heroes and brave beyond my comprehension. My heart still goes out to their families. Who knows what horrors they prevented with their courage..........
Dropped to my knees reading this I can barley type this... I remember the moment the news broke .. I remember how scared I was. How helpless I felt .. and how truly unfair and cruel life can be. Wish everyone reading this love.
Katie, I feel the same exact way and sometimes it’s like that feeling never ended. Nothing has really been the same since then.

I don't usually wish bad things upon anyone .... However that POS. Is a different story all together.

PART 1: Lachlan, thankyou for caring enough to ask the question, & wanting to learn more about these events. Yes, you're right: the highjackers wanted to crash the plane to kill everyone in the plane & target building. In the process of hijackers trying to get into the cockpit, people were were injured & died. When passengers secretly called their loved ones, they therefore found out that other planes had already been hijacked and flown into the pentagon & twin towers. Flight 93, then realised the terrorists' plans: I fly into a significant building, in order to kill as many people as possible. The typical "training" is to stay calm & do as the terrorists say, so the authorities can deal with it. The natural instinct, is also to typically do whatever to appease the hijackers / aggressors, in order to not provoke them. "Fighting back" is a rare response. *Because* the passengers on this flight knew about the other planes, they knew the true intentions of the hijackers....

I am grateful that he has put the conversation about true equality for POC back into our lives. It needs to be a thing. OR this nation will always be divided by racial lines. But I will always give Tom Burnett the respect due. Perhaps 9/11 should be renamed Tom Burnett Day. He epitomized the true meaning of "hero" on that day. Thank you for this.
Thank you. Both men took risks and are heros in their own right.
Load More Replies...did Mike Rowe REALLY need to bring Colin Kaepernick into it. Mike's kind of a douche. He didn't like that a black man protested police brutality against POC. It's not about who's a bigger hero and a really unfair comparison.
Actually, if you read the whole article, Mike was responding the someone's question about Kaepernick and his feelings on the issue. Mike is very far from being a douche and is often the voice for the average working class American. And he is correct. There is a huge difference between being a sports "star", and being an actual hero.

I'm so glad this was posted. I knew the basic story of that flight, but I never realized that there was that much communication with anyone on board. On a side note, why do we mostly just talk about the World Trade Center and the Pentagon is barely mentioned? (Not talking about this post, just in general.)
So horribly sad. So wrong. He tried. He's a hero to all of us. Not ordinary at all but brave.
Paul Greengrass paid a true hommage to those heroes with United 93. Everyone should watch that movie.
this would make for a nice 9/11 novel book "based off a true story" but they take the plane back :) bc happy endings or a sad win where they manage to save people but sacrifices himself that wud also be good plz don't dislike its just an idea (I write books)
The fact that it started like that definitely sucks but it's about a United homage to this unsung hero.. not about a controversial figure making a statement. They shouldn't be in any competition they are in no way the same
