Shocking Photographs Of People Lying In 7 Days Worth of Their Trash
We are all aware of the global pollution problem, but hardly anyone realizes just how much trash we produce daily – from uneaten food to plastic packaging, the amounts of garbage are huge. Gregg Segal, a photographer from California, aims to show this problem through a powerful photoshoot idea, photographing people lying in their weekly load of trash. His ongoing project cleverly called “7 Days of Garbage” tries to portray people from different social backgrounds to reach the largest audience possible, encouraging people going green.
Segal decided to photograph the participants in front of naturalistic backgrounds in his photo idea to show that the plastic waste produced by us is affecting it directly. “Obviously, the series is guiding people toward a confrontation with the excess that’s part of their lives. I’m hoping they recognize a lot of the garbage they produce is unnecessary”, he said to Slate.
Some of the participants were too ashamed of how much garbage they produced weekly, so they edited their garbage disposal. Others showed everything just the way it was resulting in nasty and powerful images, which you can see here. And though most of their trash could be sent for recycling, sadly the mass often finds its way to landfills.

Share on FacebookMost of this stuff can be recycled and composted. It should not be like this
Only 11 percent of recycled materials are actually recycled. Your wasting your time arguing a dead solution.

Recycling isn't a magical solution. They are still consuming and creating waste. Using less plastic is better than using more but thinking it doesn't matter as long as you recycle.
The people who make the packaging should change they make huge profits from us. We should not be held solely responsible for what's offered.
If you did the same in Sweden you would probably end up with between 70 and 90 percent less garbage. Re-cycling anyone?
I think this is meant to show the garbage produced, regardless of how it's discarded afterwards.

I bet james cheated, he ate so much more than that! :D

If we can't recycle it ourselves, we take waste to the recycling bin at the local civic amenity. Do Americans truly not know how to be environmentally friendly, or something? Some of these pictures show waste that my household wouldn't generate in a month!
Things can only be recycled so many times. Then they go to land fill. That’s why all their single use packaging is shown here. 1 cigarette butt will contaminate 1 litre of sea water - a plastic bottle can only be recycled approx 8 times. Wake up. Planet Earth is a sealed system. There is no such thing as “away” it doesn’t go anywhere when you throw it away. It’s still here!
Why didn't they photograph only garbage rather than mostly recyclables? My recycling is always much more than my garbage.
People should really think more before buying stuff. Decide if they really need that item. A lot of this stuff is completely unnecessary.
Says you. What business is it of yours what I buy?
