This tabby kittie, who is a contender to be the world’s oldest cat, has just celebrated his 31st birthday (that’s a cat age equivalent of 141 in human years). His name is Nutmeg and he chose his humans by showing up in their backyard some 26 years ago. ”He rules the house and he’s absolutely gorgeous,” Nutmeg’s humans told The Mirror.
Loving owners Liz and Ian Finlay took the cute cat in back in 1990 as a stray who befriended their own cat Spice. When they brought the kittie to their local Cats Protection to treat Nutmeg’s abscess on the neck, they told the owners the adorable animal was at least 5 years old. This would make Nutmeg the oldest cat in the world, but to qualify for Guinness Records, the owners have to show the documents that prove his age – and that’s quite tricky, but they are working on it.
Last year this old cat suffered from a very serious stroke, but now he is up and going stronger, making those around wonder how many lives this cat has. “He is not our family pet, we are his humans and he never lets us forget that. Maybe that is the secret to his long and happy life.”
Previously the oldest cat in the world was Corduroy and you can read about it here.

Nutmeg, unofficially the world’s oldest cat, has just celebrated his 31st birthday (141 in human years)
“He rules the house and he’s absolutely gorgeous”
The Finlays took the cat in back in 1990 as a stray who befriended their own cat
The owners were told he was already at least 5 years old when they got him
But to apply for the Guinness World Record, The Finlays need to show official documents
Nutmeg is a very senior cat indeed, but to the Finlays he is simply the pet they adore
“He is spoilt rotten… He comes in every morning at five am and we get up and feed him”
Last year Nutmeg suffered from a serious stroke, but now he is up again…
… Making us wonder: how many lives does this cat have?

This cat does not look young, nor does it look happy. Lol its the grumpy old cat. But sounds like he has a lot of love and care from his humans!
awww, so gorgeous! Hope he sticks around for a long, long, time. We recently had a 6 year old stray adopt us and we truly hope she sticks around to contend for the title :-)
This cat seems looks like "Meh, birthday again, stupid cake again, punny humans again..."
He kinda looks like he is suffering.. But anyway, wow the get is older then me!

I painted him as a late birthday present. :) Happy 31st birthday Nutmeg! Nutmeg-57f...b62e8b.jpg
I wonder what they feed him and if they are giving him filtered water.
No. They know for a fact he's at least 27 as he was an adult when he adopted them. 27 is Still very impressive for a cat.

He look so mad, I’m his face photo he look like an arrested criminal cat
My black cat lived for 25 years 2 months. She died peacefully in my arms last October, miss her so much

I had no idea that age was something that interesting. Our deara girl MIdnight passed away this spring at the age of 31 years. She was a precious soul. DSCF2732-5...7d7b6b.jpg
When I saw this article on Nutmeg at 31 years of age, I immediately thought someone managed to get a picture of my cat imagica. She turned 31 years old in July 2018 and still with us. I raised her from birth having the parents and the grandparents. 44536414-9...0d028.jpeg
Must be something to do with the bread of tabbies my cat sadly passed away age 25 and half years had her from 6 week kitten she was the runt of the litter

He looks a lot like my late cat Harrison who lived past 17. My daughter rescued him off the streets of Syracuse NY in 1986 or so. He passed away in 2005, so he may have been 20 years old. 17 years was how long he lived with me, and a fine mouser he was!
From the look in his face, before I read he had a stroke, it was sorta obvious. He lost control in part of his face. But damn, that's impressive.
Such a warm and wonderful story! And true, they are not our cats. We are their humans!! Cats rule!!
I think it's cat years not human years, to humans hes 13 in human years because it's not exactly 113 in human years and only 13 in cat years
