1970s Men’s Fashion Ads You Won’t Be Able To Unsee
The 1970s must have taken place on a different planet. These photos of men’s clothing from that decade leave us drowning in astounding mustard knits, loud patterns, high waists, way-too-skimpy briefs, and other men's fashion faux pas that we don't have enough of imagination to describe 40 years later.
As synthetics fell in price, casual men's style garbs were suddenly available to many fashion-forward young men looking to cut loose. Since polyester doesn’t require ironing, the “wash and wear” revolution is in full view of these models with their skin-tight threads and jumpsuits that leave nothing to the imagination. A 70s fashion Travelknit suit jumps out of the suitcase ready to wear, keeping with the decade’s focus on spontaneity and indulgence.
Scroll down for our pick of the worst 70s men's fashion pieces. And as a final note, don’t look at the prices in the funny ads! You’ll only resent H&M even more!

Dear 1970s knitters: I am from the future and I bring you a warning. If God had intended sweaters to have belts, he would have included them in the original design manual. Sweaters do NOT have belts. But they do, in all cases, have sleeves. For God's sake, don't forget the sleeves!
Now I know what to get my husband for father's day. Running downstairs now for my knitting needles.
Something tells me someone thought this style was going to make men look like Robin Hood. Epic Fail.
Is it wrong to want the Blue belted sweater and red hat for myself :D :D
Carradine and something involving a belt. I see a pattern here.
Load More Replies...Was there really a mag called Men in Belted Sweaters? I mean, wad that enough of a thing to be a thing?
Lol I think it's a pattern you can buy to make the sweaters
Load More Replies...John Davidson wannabe wins the prize for being being slightly more embarrassing than JD was.
If anyone ever knitted their man one of these I am pretty sure it remained in the bottom of a drawer and never taken out and worn.
Looks like they got into the wardrobe trunk for the Mamas and the Papas.
OMG!!!! Kaum zu glauben, aber wir haben es überlebt (und hoffentlich kommt es nicht wieder)!!!!!
Let's make alist of today's fashion items that our grandchildren will laugh at. Lace women's shorts, UGG boots, ultra low-rise jeans, the complete hipster fashion....
The photo on the upper right looks suspiciously like my husband...think we may have to talk about his "past"...
The guy in red sleeves is saying "Look at mw, my nipples are so sharp they show though two katers of cloth!"
If you ignore the colors this looks straight out of Game of Thrones... There goes Jaimie Lanister on the second pic.
the one in the yellow looks like a Lannister in that sweater...oddly this one works!
The upper middle one looks like a rejected suit for Captain America.
I feel like washing my eyes out with soap. But I know it wouldn't work.
Quite like that middle bottom one ... in a different colour ... on a chick!
" Lemme just stand here looking sexy while i hold this Chicken upside down" WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE LOL!! xD
If we weight these knits down with enough rocks we can drown them and no one will ever know!
Pierce Brosnan? George Lopez?!! Didnt expect to see so many celebs in these ads lol
Because two big shit-brown patches on a guy's butt cheeks is what the ladies love!
The kid in the bird shirt is slowly realizing that this photo shoot was a bad idea.
Those days people call this 'Funky', today people call this 'Gay', basically it's all matter of perspective and prejudice

Wankest comment I've ever read. Well done.
What has been seen, cannot be unseen...
I don't remember my dad wearing anything like this !
...luckily
That's because men who wanted to become dads didn't wear that crap.
I wonder if this is thanks to your brain that suppressed those memories or that he did not wear clothes like this.. either way be grateful ;)
I think something was slipped into the water system in the '70s.
its called weed
I almost gave this list a thumbs down. But realized how many laughs it gave me. Give it 40 years and we'll be making fun of this current days' fashion trends too.
Aww, I was hoping for a repeat of the "scandalous" late 70's Sears catalogue with the dude who tipped out the bottom of his boxers. "Mom, is this his actual penis or a shadow?" I never saw it again....
Ha I heard something about that lol
I dont remember laughing so hard! Im sure half of these men did a Caitlyn-Jenner today! XD
Where's the Safari suits?

You could NOT pay me ANY amount of money that would entice me to wear ANY of these horrendous clothes.... BLEARGH... I think I might just go & get myself a bucket...!
So many ideas for my 2017 look.
In #2 is that Richard Thomas (John Boy Walton) in the very back?

This post made my day - had it open all day at work and scrolled down a couple of images every time I needed cheering up!
Some of those close was used but some only in movies or actors used them, beside back then the word "gay" meant "happy" and it was used as such, now, well I guess they are happy.......
Some actually were used but some only in movies or actors wore them. Also, the word "gay" meant "happy" back then.....
I want one of each NOW! But I also need a lip-suction! lol
Poor men
I'd wear some of these pieces. The last one's actually chic.
MY EYES, MY EYES !!!!!!
I wore this stuff. I remember the shirts that were also undies. It was to avoid wrinkles. Oh jesus. It hurts. It hurts. I wore the big ass shoes. Big ass sideburns. I even wore...gasp... the poncho.
I grew up in the 70s, and frankly, nowadays it seems another planet.
The guy in #1, wasn't he on an episode of Three's Company wiggling his ass on a scarf in one of Jack's parties when Mr Roper happened to walk in?
I always knew my brain was actively suppressing memories of the seventies. Now I have a better understanding why.
Made in the USA though!
Don't laugh, fashions always repeat and next year, you too can look like this!
I laughed so hard for the comments, actually :D
I believe a slow clap is in order here.
Well.. That was pretty entertaining, thank you madam.
"..OLD IS GOLD.." We shall never have this kind of Ads on Tv's now. Also, From this post, I remember the same Indian 90's Ads post on : http://viralcrow.com/these-rare-old-indian-ads-posters-might-turn-a-reason-for-laughter-for-you/
# 27 is Hall of Fame pitcher, Tom Seaver.
The good news is that most of us didn't dress like this in the 70s. There were a lot of other fashions that I'd like to forget, but few were this extreme.
Excuse moi but nr3 is mindblowingly amazing. I eant those knitted blouses with knitted belt. Wow. Different era, not my taste but thats an exception
The horror...
really bad designs and I doubt many men wore any of this
I came of age during the seventies and never saw any of this shit, lol!
I lived through the 70s - in jeans, t-shirts, hoodies and mocs - essentially what I wear now - no one I know ever wore this crap - ever - wait - my sister knitted the poncho in #11.
These were AWESOME!
