10 Identical Apartments, 10 Different Lives, Documented By Romanian Artist
Bogdan Gîrbovan is the Romanian photographer behind the project “10/1.”
“10/1″ is comprised of ten photographs, taken in ten single room flats in an apartment block located in the eastern area of Bucharest,” writes Gîrbovan. “It is a 10-storey apartment block, and the apartments are placed one on top of the other. They are identical, both in the detail of the exterior and interior. I have selected this building as I also live in it, on the 10th floor, and it is easier to approach the subjects. It is only one apartment block, erected in 1966, of the approximately 70,000 apartment blocks facing the same problem.”
“I took a photograph of each apartment (the interior of each space) from the same angle, in order to better illustrate the mix of social classes in the block, displaying only differences in the character and design of the interior. The rooms may be regarded as a psychological chart of those who live in them, reflecting their history and relation to present times.”

Share on FacebookInteresting project. I like seeing all the differences between how individual people use and decorate the 'same' space.
This is awesome. It is really cool way to exhibit how people vary from each other. Really nice
My favorite is the 5th floor, I love how she made it look like two rooms. It is filled with things she loves.
4th floor is very pleasant, looks fit for a child's room. I wonder if at one point there was a child living there that no longer is there with her dad perhaps. Fascinating to think beyond and think about what you don't see.
Load More Replies...Cause it's the only one with tons of books? Damn right!
Load More Replies...One of my all-time favorite Bored Panda posts. I love the reminder that there are so many different ways to be and live in this world.
I really like the 5th and 9th floor... And I think that the person living on the 6th is an interesting one, with who I'd enjoy to talk. Intelligent, artist-like... Or/and a bit crazy. Just my stile. :) You can use this as a projective test, too. Based on preferences, You'll know many thins about the one who has them.
The scariest part of these pictures is that I may also one day end up living in a one-room apartment like that.
Funny how the men's spaces are much more free of clutter and basic. :-)
Guy from 10th floor is the photographer. Guy from 3rd floor is not the owner, but the administrator(the owner doesn't live there)
They can only do so much with dismal — would anyone viewing even consider living in this apartment? Most American studios, for example, are much more creatively decorated. These look so, well, socialist and depressing.
Great idea! Good you took this opportunity and did this project. You can see how the elderly have somewhat a similar style of decor. I like the 6th floor. :)
Very nice and interesting project. It shows how people decorate and live their own lives there, in the same space.
SO interesting! Hopefully some of them will get to know eachother when they see the pictures. Some of them seem pretty isolated.
A little curious about the toys on the fourth floor...childhood things with sentimental value, or for his children when they come to visit?
I like this project because of it's simplicity and methodicalness. It's great to se the diversity of people's interior designs and possibillities that one flat offers. Also, through that it is as though we have the insight to what it is important to each of the tenants. Very nice project! :)
cool. all of the apartments are pretty clean and organized - unlike my spaces. UGH!
did anyone else think it strange that each light fixture is different... like did each person change the fixture or were they already like that??? I know i wouldn't be bothered paying money to change a fixture in an apartment.
Typically, new apartments come with no fixtures, only the light bulb connected to the wires. You get your own, whichever model you prefer.
