I'm a huge Blade Runner fan. It has inspired my style of photography in an endless number of ways, from the color-grading to the themes it represents. So when the heavy fog came rolling into Songdo of Incheon, South Korea, I was snapping away until the early hours - ensuring all these moments were not lost in time, like tears in rain.
Interestingly, Songdo has been dubbed a 'Smart City' or a 'City of the Future', built on 1,500 acres of reclaimed land on the Incheon coast. On top of this man-made city are further futuristic architectural developments that have taken the overall cost to over $40 billion - making it one of the most expensive development projects ever.
And if you want a bit of evidence to how Songdo can be a so-called 'Smart City', check out this extract from an article written by The Atlantic:
"All of Songdo’s trash is sucked into underground pipes, and is automatically sorted and recycled, buried, or burned for fuel. These pipes connect all apartment buildings and offices; consequently, there are no street-corner trash cans or garbage trucks. Among the first of its kind in the world, the system currently requires just seven employees for the entire city."
If you're ever in South Korea and looking for your Blade Runner fix, be sure to come to Songdo, where due to its location on the coast heavy fog is a regular occurrence and makes for some incredible photos.
