Actually it’s a partial fail, but not because the hidden image was unintentional – it obviously was intentional, as you clearly mean to point out. But imagine the image flipped left to right like a mirror image. If the two black dots were on the other side of the A, the pictogram would be much more easily seen by most people in parts of the world that use the Western alphabet (in other words, the two figures would be facing right instead of left). It’s an effect of most literate Westerners being accustomed to read left to right, which biases how we interpret graphic symbols as well as alphabetic characters and numerals. (For what it’s worth, I’m a professional graphic designer, trained to be aware of such things.) So it’s still a clever example of double symbolism, just not a perfectly executed one.

The London 2012 one is horrible, just in it’s god-awful appearance. However, the huge outpouring of hate for it comes from some extremists in the Muslim community who say the shapes that are supposed to be 2012 also appear to be the letters of the word “ZION” depending on how your eyes perceive the shapes and the direction of the order of the letters.
